I definitely still want cheeseburgers, but there is no way that I can fit more than a few bites down ;)

It gets amazingly easier. I hated my first few weeks, but every day gets better. Btw... I lost 5 pounds since my update last week.... and I ate what I wanted.

Did you have any hunger the first few weeks? Does eating those really small portions become habbit?

Yes I had hunger.. that has been consistent. But you really have no choice but to eat smaller portions. My favorite thing about the sleeve is that I have to carefully plan out what I eat. Yesterday I wanted to eat a kfc biscuit but I didn't because I knew if I did that would be all I would fit. Instead I make sure I eat healthy foods and eat small meals 5 times a day.

Update** I posted this about 6 months ago. And to the newbies- you shouldn't cheat. It hurts like hell and people wo see you try will label that person that "always throws up." Like my family labeled me. I learned the hard way but I was pretty good. Now at 6 months I went from a very tight size 18 to a size 8.- 244lbs to 177, and when I tell u I am super sexy and curvy at a size 8- I tell u no lie. I eat a well balanced diet. Not for a person with the sleeve but for a person in general. I eat carbs, Protein, veggies and fruits, and.... chocolate. Life is good and I'm still losing and I feel wonderfuly healthy and full of energy. Btw... I ate popcorn like 2 weeks out and nathans mini hotdogs (that I still regret) but I lived.

You must be pretty tall. If I weighed 177 I would wear about a size 16. I'm 5'.

My cousin who is 5'3 is a size 10 at 180....it amazes me how the sizes are smaller now. I can now wear 14's at 206 & 12's if they stretch...I think its because we lose inches especially while going through the stalls

I have to correct tsl2/22 I love this site' date=' but so many people make statements that sound like medical facts, when it's simply their own ideas and views, so be careful on here. I have found MANY of the "medical" comments in accurate. This is great for support but please only say things that you know to be true. For ex, tsl2/22 states that if you cheat too soon, you get food caught in your staples.. that is not at all the reason why we go on liquids and pureed in the beginning and, frankly, it's impossible for the food to get stuck in a staple.. The staples are done on the outside of the stomach and the sleeve looks like a pillow case would if you sewed it from the outside. IE no evidence of staples. In fact, a doctor will not be able to see your staples through an endoscopy for that reason. Just a friendly fyi! :-0)[/quote']

You are totally wrong. I have staples in the inside of my stomach. My nut said you are totally wrong. Please please do not spread anore false information. Everyone is different.

Maybe your NUT is a NUT for real the procedure is done on the outside of the stomach not the inside I would also think the stomach acids would breakdown staples and sutures inside the stomach

Well I'm almost 5'6" if I stand up really tall. Lol. But I comfortably wear an 8 and size small or medium shirt because I still have dd's. 171 today! 1 pound from my goal range 150-170.

How is that possible? Unless the doctor used a very old technique. I was not a patient of Dr. Alvarez, but you can see the process here in two different videos.

Though the staples are placed on the outside of the stomach they are still have some surface area on the inside. As to the the stomach acid dissolving them, this is why they are titanium. If the only concern was sterility, the could be made much less expensively out of surgical stainlesss steel. And as far as the sutures go, they do dissolve & get broken down by the body. They are put in place as a redundancy to ensure there is no leakage.

Now as to the reason we are placed on liquid diets after surgery. That is primarily because our stomachs are numb & swollen for a period of time and we can more easily harm ourselves by unwittingly overeating our capacity. Not to mention that our capacity for food is so small at that point, the only real way to get any volume at all is through liquids.

The primary concern with the staple line is small hard items like seeds, popcorn husks, & such. These should be avoided for the first 6 weeks as they can lodge in the staple line & yes, there are documented cases of these irritants having to be removed manually.

Your NUT is not your surgeon. Please confirm with your Doc your staples are NOT inside your stomach......I agree with other poster. Maybe you can watch the surgery on youtube to get an idea how it is performed.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
