Recommended Posts

Just tryying to see whwn people felt good to return to work. I will not have any vacation by then or atleast not more than 3-4 days. I plan to take a full 7 work days off and i have a desk jib? Is that realistic?

Im having my surgery on a Thursday and going back the following Monday. I talked to my doctor about it and he said that since I have a desk job and I don't have to lift anything that I should be fine.

Yes----I went back to work in exactly one week. I was also walking on the treadmill for short periods at a time. I did rest as much as I could on those days off. I explained to my family how important it was for everybody to help out, due to my low energy by the end of the day. I am 8 weeks out now and my energy level has increased. I have not missed one day of work due to illness from the procedure. Make sure you take your Vitamins and get your Fluid and Protein in. I drank warm Decaf tea through out the day because it went down easier. Just listen to your body and rest when you can.

I think a full week is perfectly acceptable. Just be very prepared to have your liquids ready to go at all times. That's the hardest part. You might also feel some fatigue, so if there's anywhere for you to sneak a few power naps during your breaks you might want to do that too.

Good luck!

My doctor makes you take two weeks... that is everyone. I got an additionally week off because of having to return to the hospital after surgery. Listen to your body though and take care of yourself.

I'm taking one full work week. I had my surgery last Friday and I return to work this coming up Monday. I have a desk job and I have strapping lads that i work with that will lift anything should the need arise. :)

My doctor gave me a month to rest and I am so appreciative of that, I have a job where I constantly move, bend, lift and it requires me to be energetic. I am 8 days post op and my pouch is very tender and sore. All I am doing is just focus on school, walking and water/protein intake. I applaud those who work after a week or two. As for me- I love my healing time. I can't even drive my car and don't even want to. I wake up feeling tinges of pain somewhere in my sleeve and can't wait for that to go away, I just had the surgery and am in no rush for weight loss- I just want to heal properly and I would feel uncomftorable returning to work this early. So I got four blissful weeks off.

Sorry about the typos everyone lol. I just havent been at my job for very long and i dont want to take more than 4-5 days off. I figure since i sit all day it would probably be ok to return. I will probably just tell everyone i am having my gallbladder removed

I tried to go back after a week only to come home after four hours - had some issues with low blood pressure and dehydration (minor) Went back full time 2.5 weeks.

Really tired by the end of the day - take as long as you can; rest and relaxation is so important after surgery.

Had my surgery on Friday, went back to work the following Wednesday, but did go home around 2:30 the rest of the week. After that, I was good to go. Desk job here, as well.

This has been helpful. I am having surgery on March 1st (Thursday) and hoping to return to work on the 5th (Monday). I have desk job but do carry a laptop bag around. I will have to ensure it's pretty light weight.

Yep...a little over a week for me. Surgery on Saturday, 12/31/11. Back to work on Tuesday, 1/10/12. A little tired at first, but it worked out great for me as I too have a desk job. Good luck!

Just don't expect too much of yourself and don't push yourself. If its really taxing - take a break. Work a half a day. Tell your employer that you're shooting for this, but would like some leniency in case you aren't feeling well. Most are understanding :) especially when you're making such an effort :)

Wow, my surgeon wants a minimum of 4 weeks but would prefer 6 weeks off. My follow up appt with her is exactly one month post surgery. If I really had to go back to work at 4 weeks she would consider it with lots of modifications. I luckily have short term disability that will cover my wages while I'm out so I will take the 4 weeks off then maybe just work from home the last two. I can't imagine going back to work after only a week. You guys are rock stars!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
