I am waiting for the Dr.'s approval, everything looks good so I am expecting a call after January the second. I should be having the surgerly before the end of the month, but don't have an exact date yet. I am really excited and nervous about the whole thing...looking into Fountain Valley hospital in california. I still need to choose my surgeon.

Heather I am so glad u asked about why some people switched at the last minute to the Rny. With my surgery date coming soon, I have been thinking about switching to the RNY because of my diabetes. My doctor said the Sleeve would be ok since I am not on insulin just meds. Honestly I am scared of the long staple line with the sleeve but on the hand, I do not want the malasorption issue with the bypass. There has been so many times that I picked up the phone to call my surgeons nurse but I would hang up before the call would finish ringing Wish I could make a decision and just stick with it. Can anyone offer any suuport.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE not the Juggernauts. They are big and burly and I am going to be petite and skinny.

How about January Jetsetters or January Jumpstarters?

I haven't got my date yet, but all my paperwork was submitted for approval today. It's likely that I'll be part of your gang smile.png

Speaking of, we need a catchy gang name...

Like the july sleevers are the july firecrackers...

any ideas?

I set my username as "jewelwithin," as in a diamond in the rough, because even though it's true, I hate referring to myself as a skinny chick in a fat person's body.

So if January Jewels resonates with folks, feel free to steal the name from me!

I had suggested January Jumpstarts several posts back... it's gender neutral! ;)

I'm glad to see so many January sleevers coming out to say hello.

As for me in the RNY vs. VSG argument.... I was very VERY against the malabsorption that goes along with RNY. My cousin's wife had RNY a few years ago, and is now so severely anemic, that any further surgical procedures she may need (for anything) in the future could kill her because she would bleed out so easily. No, thank you!

The thing about the juggernaut is "Nothing can stop him!" So in a way... January Juggernauts are Unstoppable! Really works well imo :)

I have a question for everyone that is choosing VSG, why VSG over RNY.. Several people in my group (yes I know everyone is different) opted for VSG in the beginning but by surgery they chose to have RNY instead..

I believe that for me I am choosing the right surgery because I have no co morbidities that RNY would correct, I do have high cholesterol and they are watching my blood pressure as I am on the verge of having high blood pressure. Anyways today I am just having a second guessing of the type of surgery I chose.

Thanks everyone for listening

Hi Heather,

I chose VGS over RNY because it eliminates the potential for malabsorption and dumping. I know these aren't issues with all RNY patients, but I simply didn't want to take the chance. I also liked the fact that it wasn't "rerouting my plumbing," so to speak. I liked the fact that it was keeping everything in my body working essentially the same, though with a smaller stomach.

Large AND destructive...reminds me too much of what I am and have been doing to get this way!

Jewels ... def too girly...didn't think of that.

I'm not in love w/any of these but they come to mind:

  • Jackrabbits, Jaguars, Jockeys or Jets
  • Jailbreaks (kind of a play on words with us freeing ourselves from the "prison" of fat)
  • Jamborees (doesn't really work since it's more of a group rather than individuals??)
  • Joyriders

Now this is a little out there but it actually makes sense:

  • Jetsams...it's actually cargo that is thrown overboard to lighten the load of a ship

I agree, but I still like Anakin Jay's explanation about Juggernauts being unstoppable.

I have a feeling that by the time we come to a decision on this we will have all already been sleeved teeth_smile.gif

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
