January 2012 Sleevers!

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for the 20th in Las Vegas so I have been on the preop diet since the 6th and have dropped 6lbs. I think the weight loss each morning makes it easier for me to stick to the diet throughout the day. I am super excited but also pretty nervous!! Good luck to everybody!!!

I'm starting my liquid diet today... it's 1:30 and I have had 67 grams of Protein so far. This feels like a good start and it's definitely keeping me full (for now).

I do, however, think I may take a nap. wink.png

Good luck, everyone!

Tenshi: Good job so far! Hang in there...it will be worth it! I see that we are going to be sleeved on the same day! I look forward to keeping up!! :)

I have been on my pre op diet since the 2nd, tomorrow will be one week, surgery the 16th. I have 2 Protein Shakes with milk and 2 Protein shakes with Water. The shakes with milk are okay but I am having trouble with the protein shakes with water, just not the same as the ones with milk. I can have unlimited non starchy veggies and chicken broth. I am tired of Soup. One more week, I am sure I can get through, but I usually go to bed a little hungry. (I dreamt the other day, I cheated on my pre op diet!! I was glad it was only a dream!) I also can have sugar free pudding once a day and cream of wheat once a day. Hope everyone is getting through their pre op diet ok, if they started it.

Tomorrow is the day - must admit it was a really rough weekend - the pre op diet (five days) on top of the anxiety of the upcoming surgery (on top of watching my two grandchildren ages 2 and 10 for the past four days). I am feeling very anxious and out of sorts.

Yes, I have questioned my decision to go through with the surgery - I love food and it was my comfort - but I want to be healthy and the sleeve will give me the tool to work with to make it all happen.

Just want to make it though the rest of today at work - go home, clean my house, and hopefully relax until 6:00a tomorrow morning

January 23, 2012!!! I'm glad that I'm not the only one that is VERY excited.Began pre-op diet yesterday, feels real now, getting closer by the minute, feels like the home stretch! It sounds weird to be excited about surgery, but maybe I'm not exactly excited about the surgery itself, maybe I'm excited about losing the weight and becoming the 'real' me again. Does anyone else have a fat personality and a skinny personality?

My fat personality doesn't like to socialize, has no energy, is shy, emotionally sensitive, takes things too personally.

My skinny personality is VERY high energy, extroverted, busy, confident.

Hi Heather. It seems that everyone's pre-op diet is different. Mine is 14 days, 2 Protein Shakes a day and one healthy meal. I absolutely LOVE the EAS AdvantEdge shakes, so that part is easy. I have a huge supply for pre and post surgery. For pre and post surgery clears (1 day before and 1 week after) I have a supply of unflavored Protein powder to mix with Crystal Light and chicken broth. This way I can vary the flavor, so I don't get bored, and yet not spend a ton of money buying different flavors.

I am in pre-op diet hell. This is day three and I am so friggin HUNGRY! I resisted when the rest of the family had pizzarria pizza and bread for dinner. We even had company and I just drank my shake. I was proud of my willpower. But now I am so hungry. I don't know how I can do this until the 18th.

emvanvellen,

I'm set for the 18th, too and I want to eat sooo much!!!! I'm actually very impressed with myself for resisting all the food in my house right now!! lol

9 more days!!

My Doc has me doing 4-5 Slim Fast 3-2-1 shakes per day....I have eaten Soup the last two days instead of one of the shakes. There are only 10 grams of Protein in each shake. I was wondering if I am getting enough. Boo..the nurse said that I can have a broth soup in the evening if I am really hungry. But she said really nothing besides sugar free drinks and the shakes.

Em,

have you tried the Slim fast LOW CARB shakes? I have to start those on Wednesday. 4 or 5 of those a day are basically my liquid diet. those have 20 grams of protien in them.

I was told to find shakes with <110 calories, 15-25 gm Protein, <4gm carbs, < 3 gm fat. The more carbs in the shake the more it can make you feel hungry

Debs,

I feel the same way you do in regards with my fat and skinny personalities. The only time I've been in the hospital was when i had my daughter through c-section so i'm scared of going under and the surgery itself but the feeling of losing all this weight and getting back to my skinny personality over powers that feeling ANY day!! lol

Heather, My preop is 2 weeks of no carbs and one week of liquids. i start my liquid diet on Wednesday and that consists of 4 to 5 Slim fast Low carb protien shakes a day. Those have 20 grams of protien and 2 grams of carbs. plus all the Water and other allowed liquids i'm suppose to be consuming. The only thing is that i have to have at least one cup of broth a day because of the lack of sodium i will be experiencing. I don't want to be experiencing any cramps at all.

But that's it. I can't wait to see my skinny personality again!!! :)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
