Does Anyone With A Sleeve Run?

Just wondering if you can provide yourself with enough fuel to get through a marathon or even a half?

I started running this year and I love it! Im hoping after surgery my times will improve but Im worried about the long distance runs

I am going to try to start running again once I drop at least another 30 lbs - I have a half a knee cap due to a sports injury several years back.

I want to do the www.runforyourlives.com for my 1 year surgery gift to myself. It is a 5k that goes through obstacles and you are chased by zombies!

I will be following your post. I had hope to be on moderately normal foods within half a year so I was going to focus on food in steady balanced portions and go from there.

I had a young lady I discussed fluids for cycling and she said she takes a saline solution before hand. She had cancer and the treatment affected her Water intake somehow. She told me that for her personally the after cycling Water was not an issue, it was during. she could drink freely, she just did not get enough at times.

Someone in my surgical support group does marathons - she had RNY, which means she has the added complication of having to worry about dumping on the energy goo some people use. There's also a gal that runs a daily exercise thread on another forum I participate in that had RNY, and she does triathlons! So, I'd say it's definitely possible. I'm hoping to work up to a half marathon this year.

I'm almost 2yrs post op... Prior to surgery I hated exercise, especially running. I incorporated walking and running into my exercise routine as soon as I could. I have to say that running is now my first choice for exercise. I love it. Last month I participated in my first 5k in Puerto Rico called RUN LIKE A DIVA... it was awesome and the feeling was undescribable. I finished it in 34 minutes and came in #19 from 72 women in my age category... I would of never thought in a million years that I would love it as much as I do

I jut started briskly walking in hopes of running as soon as my legs can carry my fat butt lol, I am only 3-4 weeks post-op. BUT I have seen a ton of posts, tickers, and etc about people who are running marathons and whatnot. Congrats on your Diva run, it sounds amazing. I can't wait to have that type of feeling from RUNNING! I mean seriously I am 26 and when I was in high school I couldn't even walk the mile in 30 minutes! To see myself as a runner doesn't even seem possible.

I was running...ok, jogging (LOL), before surgery and have been jogging since week 3 (I'm almost 6 weeks out now). Even though I'm still really heavy, my body seems to handle it just fine (I was super athletic up until about 10 years ago). The main reason I chose the sleeve over RNY was because I want to do triathlons and I wanted to be sure that I could fuel my body with the necessary carbs in order to complete an endurance race. I will be doing my first tri in June 2012!!!!!

I started jogging using the C25K (couch to 5k) program on my android phone a month after surgery when my doc released me for full exercise. I was doing great up until the time that I got very ill (due to an unrelated medical condition). I haven't gotten back into it yet but was LOVING it. :)

I ran half marathons with my lap band. Now that I am newly sleeved I plan on training for a half marathon in april and a full marathon in Oct.

I have been running about 15-20 miles a week and am starting a half-marathon training program with a local running group here next month. I did a 5K earlier in Dec with a time of 26:23.

One thing I have noticed, though, is how much more aware I am of how even the smallest of meals affects my body and my run. I have started eating Pasta now and what a difference it has made. It will be interesting to see the modifications I will have to make as my distances increase.

I have been training for a 1/2 marathon since July. I hadn't run at all prior to July. I actually ran 14 miles this past Saturday. The 1/2 marathon I am training for is January 30th. I love it!

I will say that as the miles have gotten higher it is difficult to fuel my body and continue to lose weight. I am having a hard time getting the carb ratio right. At this point, I am focusing on my race and being fueled for it. I can also say that the muscles from running are really helping with the sagging skin.

Next up for me is a sprint triathlon in August and a full marathon next October. You will definitely be able to run as a post-VSGer. :)

Im 10 weeks out and I have actually been running/jogging since week 2. It is very doable, just make sure to listen to your body, if it tells you to stop.. well.. stop. lol

But I am actually training right now for tough mudder. Im at the gym 5 days a week and running 4 days a week. I start boot camp today so we shall see how that goes.

good luck to you on the marathon I think you are gonna love gettin in your work outs.. I was always active before my 4 knee surgeries so picking up on the exercise wasn't too difficult for me. But i would say start off slow and see how your body handles everything then slowly work your way up to more each day.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
