Christmas Challenge!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I forgot to check in last Friday. I was so stoked to get to 155 that I updated my ticker, wrote a long post in VSG Success Stories and completely forgot the challenge. I thought at 155 that I was at a normal BMI. But when I updated my ticker, I found out it's 154 for me. But this week I am really there! I weighed in at 152.8 this week. Hurrah! Less than 6 months out to a normal BMI. And I've joined the century club! I've lost 100 lbs. since starting the pre-op diet on Feb. 15. Just .8 of a lb. and I've lost 70 lbs. post-op. I hope to be there by my 6 months surgiversary next Thursday.

I was a bit worried about losing weight this week too because we were on vacation and I ate more and more fatty foods and exercised less, I had a great time but I'm glad to be back home and back on schedule.

Lynda

My Christmas Goal also includes reaching the following goals:

154 lbs.: I'm a NORMAL BMI!!!! and I have 19 lbs. to goal

154: I've lost 100 lbs total - 32 pre-op and 68 post-op. I'm in the Century Club!

152: I've lost 70 lbs. post-op

149: My number starts with 14. I haven't weighed this since the mid-90s.

146: I've lost 10% of my total body weight for the fourth time since the operation. I have less than 10% of my body weight to go to goal, so it will be my last 10% loss.

145: 10 lbs. to go to my final goal!

144: My Christmas goal and I've lost 110 lbs. (32 pre-op and 78 post op). 9 lbs. to my final goal!!!

I'm rather late getting in on this, but I'm gonna try it. This is my first challenge. I was always afraid to make a goal because I didn't want to fail. But, I'm coming off a one month stall so hopefully this will help to motivate me. So, here I go...CW 233...GW 220.

I gained a pound this week. This is my first stall and week with no loss, also my first gain. I started working out a week and a half ago every single day and I think that is messing with my weightloss. I am determined to be positive and know I am doing the right thing. I am just going to keep on keeping on and see what happens. I have lost a couple inches in the last two weeks so I will take that.

Hi all,

I celebrated my 6 months surgiversary last Thursday. I made the goal I wanted: 70 lbs. lost post-surgery in 6 months.

The six-month checkup went well. I've been trying hard to stick to Kaiser's guidelines and they are working for me. I'm now cleared for 1-2 alcoholic drinks per week. Yahoo! I'm going to start out with a small glass of port, probably this weekend.

I'm planning on enjoying Thanksgiving this coming week, but I hope not so much that I dont' lose. I've lost every week since surgery and I don't want to break that streak yet!

I have really had a tough time the past week and a half. I've been staying on program, did eat 1 or 2 things a little off plan but it was just a very small piece of a dessert each time. I guess that sugar just messed me up because I kept going up and down 2 to 4# for the past week until a few days ago. I started back to the gym this past Monday, but it's been a struggle. Am down 2# from my last weigh in, but I'm 2 days overdue. Just didn't have the heart to post a gain.... Ugh....

For some reason I can't seem to update my ticker. I never had a problem just clicking on the ticker below and it just takes me right to the page to update things. When I click on it now, it does nothing. I've tried IE and Firefox..... grrr Anyone else have any issues?

Surgery weight: 271

Starting Halloween weight: 195

Current weight: 189

Goal weight: 175

Pretty good week. Lost 4# this week!! 16# more to go.

OK this plateau won't budge. Well maybe not a true stall... I have been losing about 1/4 some weeks and some weeks none. A good week I lose 1/2 lb. So I am wwwaaayyy behind. I have been addig a few more carbs to see if this breaks it. I had been having way under 30... maybe 16 a day. Gonna raise it a bit to see if I have more energy. Maybe exercise will not feel like such torture??? Weight loss is soooo slow I figure a litte experimentation can't hurt.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
