My BMI is 32 and I'm having the same struggles. Was a Phen-fen success story in the 90's, but eventually gained it all back. I have an appointment with a surgeon this week. Been doing lots of praying and researching. Hopefully have some answers soon. Good luck to you. Let us know how you progress on your journey.

I was 32.8 BMI. You must be 30.0 to even qualify with most surgeons. Talk to a local surgeon and see what they say. With my personal history and my families struggles with obesity, 3 surgeons confirmed I was a definite candidate. Best of luck to you!

Hi there! I am a 31 and I am having surgery tomorrow! I have struggled far too long with this issue and I need a better tool than weight watcher, jenny craig, etc. Go talk to a bariatric surgeon and see what they say. Here is to your good health!

I have my surgery on August 22nd. My BMI is 31.2 and I weigh 198 lbs.....however I hold my weight really well and most people put me at 170ish. I have tried EVERYTHING and spent thousands of dollars on any new fad diet out there. I am excited yet terrified that I will once again fail at this. I am sooo tired of people saying "just eat less and exercise more" thanks tips but I have already tried that. I wish you all the best in your decision...maybe we should start a new thread for us lower BMI types???? There are quite a few of us.

I'm so exited y'all wrote me back I didn't think there was anyone else around my BMI wanting to get this done. Are any of y'all trying to go through insurance? I heard you had to at least have a BMI of 35. I went to a seminar and I have a phone consultation tues. I'm so excited but so nervous I have been doing research for the past four days and praying a lot about it. I'm glad they changed the BMI to 30, if the world considers anything 30 and above obese than we should be able to have bariatrics done too. Wish y'all luck and good luck to the one who is having surgery you will do great and you will be on your way to being healthier and feeling great about yourself-Jamee

Hi Jamee;

33 BMI and I love my sleeve. Similar stories - struggled with weight for over a decade with little or no success ever maintaining weight loss longer than 6 months. If you are willing to self pay for surgery, most surgeons will consider you.

Good luck!

BMI 31.5 but am only 5'3" so look fatter. Have lost weight before, I exercise moderately and eat sensibly but my weight just doesn't budge so VSG for me.

I want to use Dr. Almanza in Mexico does anyone have a direct contact? I have read enough on the forum to make up my mind and want to go this route.

Thanks for letting me know that I am not alone!

Christy,

You need to contact Louise Johnson. She is the patient liaison for Jerusalem Hospital and Dr. Almanza. Her email is: louise_jerusalemhospital@yahoo.com. Her phone number is 866-806-4286.

Louise is wonderful! She is very quick to answer your questions. My surgery is scheduled for Aug 10 and I have bombarded her with questions and she has never even gotten aggrivated with me...LOL

Good luck on your journey!

Hi

My BMI Is 33. I have tried all diets and always gain it back. If you google weight loss statistics you will see that 95% off all weight loss after following a diet is gained back after 1-5 years. This helped me make my decision. I have better odds with having the surgery than not having it. Heart disease, cancers, diabetes, etc. Good luck with your decision. Read lots! Also obeisety help forum is interesting. Good luck!

Bmi of 31, and booked for Aug 29, I was so sure before, but now I'm having second thoughts! I'm glad to hear there are others with lower bmi's having surgery as well, makes me feel like maybe I'm not so crazy, lol. The only way I was ever able to lose and maintain weight loss was by vigorous exercise for at least an hour a day,7 times a week. That's not feasible anymore at my age, back pain, and lack of energy! So, against my families wishes, off to Mexico I go.

My BMI is 31 and I'm doing the surgery tues the 9th. I'm starting to get nervous. It's been like a roller coaster, one day I'm super excited and the next day I'm wondering if I should have tried one more diet. I know I will get the same results in the end though. I wish you had your family to back you up because it makes it easier. I pray I have made a good decision and I will be so glad I did this in several months. We need to keep eachother updated with our progress. Good luck-Jamee

HI,

I had a BMI of 31, but I was also a lap-band revision. I did not bother trying with insurance, I went to straight to Dr Aceves in Mexicali because he has a ton of experience with the revision.

I am doing so well with the sleeve and have reached a "normal" BMI in 4 months. I still have about 16 pounds till goal, but I couldn't be happier. Make sure you set your expectations properly - you are not going to lose weight as fast as others on this board. You need to look at your percentage of weight lost, not the pounds. The fact is you have less to lose than others and it will come off slower.

Bottom line, the sleeve really works and I think it is great that you are addressing it now before your weight or health suffers.

Thanks for starting the thread - its nice to see other low-BMI patients out there. We are not alone!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
