Eyemallrt got a reaction from GlitteringGoldParodox in You Don't Have To Tell Ppl You're Having Surgery!Ppl on these sites will try to make you feel guilty, some will even act like bullies, and have holier than thou attitudes when you say you've kept it secret.I chose not to tell anyone but my immediate family. It was the right decision for me, I am not ashamed, i do not feel guilty for not helping out others on their journey etc etc etc. I made the decision to have surgery for me, not to jump on a soapbox! Is that selfish? Perhaps, but worrying about everyone else other than me was what got me fat in the first place! Do what is right for you!!
How do you like them apples? Lol

Eyemallrt reacted to bd0982 in You Don't Have To Tell Ppl You're Having Surgery!I'm sorry but I respectfully disagree with you. I haven't lost my weight exceptionally fast and I've been on a diet work out program for about 8 mo now and I'm 3 mo out of my surgery so no one has even suspected or questioned me about it.

Eyemallrt got a reaction from thinmymind in Low BMI to Start - Anyone Else?I had surgery with dr. Kelly on Aug 29/11 with a starting BMI of 30. I have had success in the past with weight watchers, and even worked for W.W. For a few years, BUT the only way I was able to maintain weightless was through very vigorous exercise 1 hr a day,7 days a week. At 44, with back problems, and a stressful job, that amount of exercise is impossible. Needless to say, even with good eating habits, my weight had been creeping up for years. Now, 8 weeks out, I have lost 26lbs, about 15 -20 more to go.( if you start with a lower BMI, you lose at a slower pace than ppl with higher BMI's) I walk everyday for 20 minutes, and feel like I am no longer fighting my hunger constantly. Yes, you can gain weight with the sleeve once you are in maintenance, but your stomach can NEVER stretch out to the size it was before. You can "eat around" your sleeve by eating too often and high calorie foods, BUT if you need to lose again, it will never be a s hard as it was pre-sleeve. FYI, if you find it hard losing weight now on your own, it is at least twice as hard once you are over 40. I kind of feel like having 85% of my stomach removed was like having my appendix or tonsils removed- an organ I can live quite easily without, lol. The functional part is still there, thats all I need. I starved myself for 20 years
witth mediocre results, would I do this surgery again? HELL YA!

Eyemallrt reacted to SKCUNNINGHAM in Officially a Member of the 50's Team!I will be 55 during the Christmas holidays. But - I will be the size I was when I graduated high school and college - which is a heck of a lot better than being fat and 55. For you youngsters just turning 50 - wait until the folks at AARP start sending you info in the mail! I have just now stopped tearing it up and started reading it (they have a huge staff and some well researched material). I might even join those guys at some point - you never know.
Also, thank God for clothes to hide the pleats of wrinkles that puddle at certain places on my body. And thank goodness my husband is near sided without his glasses, so I am just a fuzzy out of focus smaller woman, and he can't see all the wrinkles all the time.

Eyemallrt got a reaction from LilMissDiva Irene in Want The Ugly Truth About Weight Loss Surgery? Well Here You Go....Just came across another down side of losing weight... I am in the smallest size of pants that my favorite clothing stores sell.( Rickis, Reitmans, and Cleo) If I lose more, I'll have to find new favorite stores!!

Eyemallrt reacted to RickM in When Can We Have Sex Again? The general answer from most docs is whenever you feel ready for it. Most hospital nurses say that they prefer that you wait until you are home from the hospital. There may be some positions that you will want to avoid, and your body will tell you.

Eyemallrt reacted to Rootman in Carbonation Question -Only a few things missing from this picture, connect a slow moving drain to the bottom of the balloon and a tube with a valve at the top, every time the balloon starts to swell a little open the valve and *burp* the gas out while letting the slow drain dribble the liquid past the balloon. I think you'll find that the soda has little NO effect on the balloon now.
The stomach is NOT a closed system, there are TWO ways out for the gas and it doesn't just sit there and keep expanding it till it stretches your stomach all out.
Drink soda? Can you? - YES, should you ?- MAYBE. If the bubbles bother you then NO, if they don't bother you and drinking sweet soda doesn't prompt you to binge on other sweets then leave it up to your own judgment. If you at ALL doubtful of your control or the sodas effect on you then - NO - DON'T DRINK IT - better safe than sorry.
Sorry, my post isn't officially what the OP asked for but I get really cranky when I hear bad illustrations like this.

Eyemallrt reacted to New start in Pounds Vs InchesI have heard that when we are in "stalls" often we are loosing inches during that time. Anyone heard of a good explaination of the physiology behind this? What is happening? Has it been your experience? Thought this might be an encouragement to those of us who are doing everything we've been told, and the # just aren't budging.

Eyemallrt reacted to SittingPretty in How open were you about getting sleeved?I only told my hubby and kids. Some people tell everyone, and I might do that in a few years. This is why I didn't tell...
I do not like Negative Nancys and I have been surprised in the past about who is actually a "closet" Nancy. When it comes to obesity, in my opinion, some people can be very judgmental and overly vocal. Which is hilarious when you really think about it (pot meet kettle). I also did not want the "waiting for the re-gain" syndrome to begin. This mainly applies to my Mom.
So a few months ago I started telling people I was on a diet and cut out most carbs and sugar. About a month later I said I cut out soda too. I also told everyone I would measure my food and eat only what a normal amount should be. This led to conversations about America's portion size and how out of control it is. A few friends gave me advice on eating healthy, but cautioned against a low carb diet. I told them I am not cutting them out completely, just lowering them. After my surgery I obviously ate even less. I told people that once I adjusted to eating smaller portions and actually eating Breakfast as well, I learned to stop when I was full not stuffed.
Bottom line is this is MY journey. The sleeve is a tool, it does not define me. Again, this is JMO. I support everyone who decides to or not to tell others... I just might scream,"I had the sleeve" from the rooftops in the future :smile1:
