I'm lookingfor the best Dr. in Dallas Tx. to do the sleeve for me. Any suggestions?

Well, I haven't had my VSG surgery yet, but the Doctor I chose is Dr. Joseph Kuhn @ Medical City of Dallas and I'm on the 3rd month of my 6mth supervised diet. When I had my consultation with him there were alot of people there for f/u appts and talked about how much they loved him and the main thing that stood out was how he listened to them and was very compassionate, which is what I had already seen in his reviews before choosing him. He has also been voted one of the Top Doctors in Dallas, in Texas and in America and has lots of experience. My consult was great he answered the majority of my questions before I even asked them. His website is www.wlsdocs.com you can read more there as well, as links to videos he has.

I am using Dr. David Provost in Denton. He was previously a professor at UT Southwestern medical school and taught a lot of the other doctors who are doing surgeries in DFW. He is very well respected and a Top Doctor by D Magazine and TX Monthly. My surgery is scheduled for July 22nd. Good luck with your decision and surgery.

I used Dr. Nick Nicholson in Plano. He is the head of the bariatric center at Baylor Plano, and is also associated with the Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas. He does surgeries at both places. I was employed by four different businesses in 2010 while I was on my Quest to get certified by WLS (sold twice, layed off once). Dr. Nick was considered a "CENTER OF EXCELLENCE" provider by all of the insurance plans I was working with. My surgery was as Forest Park. I can't say enough positive things about Dr Nick, his staff, or the people and facilities at Forest Park. Dr. Nick does regular information sessions about WLS, you may want to go give him a listen. He doesn't do a strong sales pitch - just lays out information and lets you make your decision.

Dr. James Davidson....very serious ... but is one of the top surgeons in Dallas. I had surgery almost 3 weeks ago and he took great care of me. He's been listed as one of the top surgeons 19 years in a row in D Magazine. Here's his link: http://www.bscdallas.com/

Good luck!

Definitely Dr. Nicholson whose office is at Baylor Plano; he did my surgery at Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas. I am one month out; he did a fantastic job. I've had no problems whatsoever. He has a great staff who are always available when you need them. You just can't go wrong using Dr. Nicholson.

I'm in WA State now, but I am originally from DFW and was banded and revised 5 yrs later to a VSG.

Dr. Kuhn is awesome. He's been in the WLS business for a very long time. I worked for a GI doctor at Baylor and he highly recommended Dr. Kuhn to anyone asking about WLS.

I've heard good things about Dr. Barker. I had a friend who worked in his office. He runs his clinic more like a number system, and you have to wait and wait, so don't take kids to the appts. But everyone says when you see Dr. Barker you have his attention 110% of the time and he will make sure you have all your questions answered.

I'm not sure what Dr. Benavides does these days, but anyone associated with primarily Lap Bands and what used to be The Surgery Center of Richardson I would run from.

Dr. Frank Felts not so much. I had another physician several years ago that originally put my band in. After years of problems such as vomiting, dehydration and sickness, Dr. Felts failed to find anything wrong with my band. He refused to say anything negative about the doctor who did my original surgery. After MANY Barium Swallows and TWO Upper GI Endoscopy Scopes Dr. Felts said it was all in my head and fired me as a patient, giving me 30 days to find another doctor because I dared to tell him he was WRONG and I was so dehydrated I couldn't swallow Water let alone eat solid food 4 1/2 years out from band surgery with ZERO Fluid in my band. BTW, My band was found to be put in BACKWARDS and dangerously close to my Aorta!! Dr. Felts was also JUST GETTING STARTED doing VSG and he refused to tell me how many he had done of the regular VSG surgeries and how many revisions from Lap Band to VSG he had done. I felt like he wasn't being honest in my personal opinion, he wanted me to have TWO surgeries, one to remove the band and a second to do the VSG as he didn't have the experience he was used to doing ONLY Lap Bands!

I found Dr. Manuel Castro who practices at Methodist Dallas on this forum by another person. She had him for both band and VSG. She highly recommended him. I had surgery by Dr. Castro in August 2010. I had an allergy to the skin-prep that was worse than recovery pain. Dr. Castro called me several times to check on me. He investigated and called me to inform me what my allergy was so that I could avoid it in the future. The doctor himself did so, not a nurse! He can be hard to understand as he has a thick Spanish Accent, but he is VERY VERY caring and talented. Something I personally had NEVER experienced before from a Bariatric Surgeon! I highly recommend Dr. Castro. His wife was his office manager at the time I had surgery and can be difficult to deal with. Be sure to verify your own insurance as she soemtimes isn't clear about it. Otherwise, he is worth the wait and dealing with his wife! Dr. Castro is a Lap Band to Sleeve Revision Specialist.

I can't think of any other Bariatric Surgeons I personally dealt with in DFW. If Robert Powell is around AVOID him like the Plague, he's the idiot who placed my Lap Band Backwards! LOL

Best of luck to everyone! I hope this is helpful, it's 5 yrs worth of my experiences in one post!

Thank you so much. I had the band for about two years and had to have it removed because of errosion. I would like to have the sleeve done but want to find the best Dr. out there. I used Dr Mark Watson at UT SOUTHWESTERN in Dallas for the band by he will not do the sleeve. I have a apt. with a Dr.Scott at UT but not to sure about him. Ihave been asking around about Dr.s and seven people has said Dr. Castro. I have registered on line with him and waiting for a apt. Have you had any complications with the sleeve or bad side effects? How was the hospital stay at Methodist? Thanks so much.

I also used Dr. Castro at Methodist. He was great. His staff is very courteous and professional; especially Mary in dealing with insurance approval. He is a great surgeon with an awesome reputation at Methodist which is where I work. The hospital stay was alright...I just wanted to get home. I have not had any complications or "side effects" from the sleeve. It is the best thing that I have done for myself and family.

I am scheduled for surgery with Dr Nicholson in Dallas in a few weeks. He has an excellent reputation and the fact that he is the head of Bariatric Medicine at Baylor Medical Center (downtown and Plano) means a lot to me.

You said the stay was alright. What stopped it from being perfect?

I used Dr. Davidson in June 2010.....absolutely a great doctor. He does surgery at Forest Park Medical Cntr and he is also at Presbyterian here in Dallas. Being a top doc in D Magazine is what led me to him. I mistakenly said in another thread that it was 18 yrs, never the less, he was voted by his peers for a LONG time!!! I knew I wanted a 'Center of Excellence' doctor and both he and Dr. Nicholson were voted 'top docs' and both had the Center of Excellence stamp of approval. I went with Dr. D because he did surgery on Fridays and Dr. Nick did not.....Friday was more convenient for me since at that time, we were living out of state. I am sure I'd feel the same way, had I gone with Nicholson.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
