Got My Date!! MAY 9th! Anyone else have the same day?

Recommended Posts

I am having a hard time believing that I finally have a date! I have waited SOOOO long and jumped through so many hoops. I am wondering when it is going to sink in. I have my final consultant with my surgeon in the morning, so maybe that will finally get it to sink in.

One of my biggest problems, I have been eating everything I can get my hands on the last couple of days. I am sure tomorrow he will tell me when to start on my pre-op diet....think I need to start sooner than later!

AACCCKKKKK....3 weeks from right now I will be post-op! YOWZA!

Hooray for you! And yes- that is my date too!

You are not alone in that eating thing- pretty common! I made a triple layer red velvet cake tonight to Celebrate all our birthdays before I start my liquid diet next Monday....

We can support each other in our journey!

I'm still waiting for insurance approval, but I know what you mean about eating everything in site. I tried to go low carb and lasted about 3 days.

It'll be easier once I have a date and someone to tell me "This is what you HAVE to do from now until surgery".

But left to my own devices...well let's just say I'm not obese for no reason.

Yikes! What is it with May 9th and Red Velvet? ALSO my very very favorite!!! So excited to have others that are the same time.

Had my last surgeon appointment, and then my pre-op with my PC. He says it would be good to try and loose 10lbs before surgery, but not required. Only liquid diet is the day before! Big ol bottle of Mag Citrate the night before....YUMMO! I am going to let myself have whatever I want yet this week, gotta enjoy the Easter dinner! Then the week before, I am going to start my pre-op.

Bought myself a Magic Bullet and some stuff to try smoothie recipes. I absolutely HATE HATE HATE dairy products, so have to try to find a way to get some yogurt down. Got some fruits to blend with it...hope it works! My 2 Snacks a day need to be dairy. UGH!

How long has your doc said you have to stay in the hospital? I am looking at around 3 nights, but I have some other health issues that need monitoring. As long as things look okay, I will have it done laproscopic, but yet, I signed the waiver to say if needed, it can be an open procedure. I thing that is just standard. Heck, I want them to do the best job possible!

2 weeks from Monday???? AACCCKKKKK!!!!!

Also, I have started to tell a few more people...still being selective, just do NOT want to be under the magnifying glass! One person already said they can't wait to see me when I get back to work...after 3 weeks. I told them not to expect much, it still takes time to lose weight! As if our surgeons just used their magic wands and "POOF", we are skinny!

Congrats!! Lots of 5/9 folks!! I am not far behind, 5/16!! And my mouth is watering for some of that cake! Haha I am diabetic so I've been doing pretty good on my eating for awhile now. I've lost around 35 lbs since I started limiting carbs and sugar and cutting my portions down. I am not really going crazy eating like I thought I would once I got my date, but I am hungry for Olive Garden!! I may go and just eat a half a portion of something. I could split a plate I guess. Good luck y'all!!

We went to In- n- Out today- I don't even EAT fast food! There is this weird feeling about what lies ahead - literally two weeks of liquids- and on a grander scheme the unknown of life with the sleeve. I am excited, scared, happy, a tiny bit worried....and hungry, the yawning kind of hunger that I will soon leave far far behind.

I think we should call ourselves, being around 5/9 or thereabouts- maybe the first two weeks in May- the Red Velvet gang ;-P I wish I could give you each a piece.

I won't have my surgery on the 9th, but I get to meet with my Surgeon for the first time :D Not quite the same, I know, but it's something! The office coordinator told me I will get to schedule my surgery date at that first appointment, so we'll see. Hopefully I won't have to wait tooooo long. The sooner the better, I say!!

Good Luck to all of you! ((And although I'm more of a cheesecake kinda girl, that red velvet cake looks pretty awesome!))

Holy Moley about eating everything not nailed down. I've lost 75 lbs on my own and the closer I get to a possible surgery date (I go into the hospital tomorrow to sign the papers!); the more I eat.

Going the cardiologist office, I just knew that I was having a heart attack and all I was going in to in to have the doctor to read the results of the stress test and give me an all clear!

When the cardiologist told me to tell the surgeon to schedule me for surgery, thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest.

Blood pressure began to drop then elevate! I immediately did what I always do when I'm beyond stressed, I grabbed 6 turkey meatballs, followed by a snickers candy bar and a selzer Water, 1 package of strawberry Cookies, 1 package of nuts! luck for me I'm eating vending machine sized portions; otherwise I would be OUT OF CONTROL!!!!!! (Not in one sittling - all eaten during the course of the day)

All the best to the May VSGers! I'm shooting for 5/31!!!!! Wish me luck!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
