So I guess I am having a bit of a farewell to food tour, not like I won't ever be eating again or anything. I will be starting my Pre-op diet on the 29th. My mother happens to be here until the 30th, visiting from CA, so she has been cooking a lot. Additionally last week, I bought a bag of popchips and my fav veggie chips and ate those. And something I haven't had in quite a while, ice cream, I bought a half gallon today( i am not eating the whole thing, just a bowl). My husband and I went out to dinner Sunday and we will probably be going out to dinner again next weekend.

I am trying not to go too crazy, the chef in the cafeteria at work in making Bisquits and Gravy on Wednesday for me. I didn't tell him I was having surgery but he knows 29th I am done with all the good stuff he makes there for awhile.

Did you all do something similar? or am I just going way overboard?

I did a farewell tour a little bit also. Ate at my favorite mexican restuarant. Went to Cracker Barrell for Breakfast. Five Guys burger and fries. I am now 3 months out and have venture out a little bit but definately eating much smaller amounts. I really watch what I order now and make good choices. I had a 7 day liquid diet before surgery and this satsified my cravings and made the preop diet a little more tolerable.

Right now I am doing low cal but not cutting way way back. Just trying not to go over bard and losing a few pounds. Once I have my date I have been keeping a little "bucket list" of few things I know I wont have for a long long time, and never in the same way. Sees candy, my fave pizza, In and Out, just a few things I will miss. IN fact right now every time I have my morning seeded whole grain toast I honor it and speak fondly to it ;-P.

Our son works at the movie theater and brings home free buttered popcorn- in big quantities, whenever we want. I will miss that for sure.

when I went for my last appt before surgery, they told me to go back to south beach phase 1 immediately to shrink my liver. I was kinda freaked because mentally I had been preparing for a food funeral at least a couple things. I did both. and when my doctor asked me on day of surgery how I did, I said ok. when he heard that I had even had just a tiny bit of carbs he kinda freaked and cancelled my surgery (to be rescheduled in a couple weeks). Now I am sorry, and I feel so bad that I wasted my time, his time and everyone elses who was involved. :(

Ha! I had a similar tour :-) I'm glad I did - I can't even imagine eating real food for a while (I'm 2 weeks out). It sounds good, smells good, but my stomach keeps me on the straight and narrow.

Good luck with your surgery---

Lara

I was too scared to eat much else before the surgery. If I cheated, I cheated with egg beaters and maybe ate two instead of the 1 Protein Bar I was allowed.

BTW, mixing in cooked/fried egg beaters into sauces etc. almost gives a soft noodle mouth feel

Thanks for all of the replies.

I am not cheating on anything currently, I am not on my pre-op diet as of yet, that starts next week.

I am kinda in the same boat. My liquid diet starts Monday the 28th (surgery is the 11th), so I told my dear hubby we have to eat all my favorites all weekend  Good luck to you, I will be watching your posts since we will be close to the same schedule!!

And remember, we are sleevers, it's not like you can NEVER have it again - unless you are talking about coconut shavings or if you are in the habit of eating straw and hair :-)

So today was my last day of eating regular stuff. Starting the pre-op diet tomorrow. I guess I am also burnt out on food at this point. I ate a lot of stuff I wanted and didn't always feel great after doing it.

I just hope I stick to it and don't mess it up. I believe I have everything I need for the entire 2 weeks.

I say to enjoy all of your favorite foods now. My tastes have changed so much since surgery! You never know what you will like post-op. Some of my past favorite foods make me sick now or I just don't want them anymore. Doesn't bother me at all though.... I love losing weight more! LOL Congrats on your big day coming up.

I was trying so hard to lose weight before surgery that I hardly did a food farewell tour. I did well losing weight but dang did I regret not having my favorites before hand. Yes, I know we will eventually be able to have small amounts of food but I wish I would've had one last chicken parmesan meal or chicken chimichanga! I kept thinking about them my first few days post-op. So I wouldn't feel bad if I was you and you didn't cheat yoru pre-op so you're good! :D Good luck on your pre-op diet and as you begin your sleeve journey!

You aren't alone. I did the same thing, but I called it a 'Bucket List', rather than a farewell tour. On Saturday, we got a pizza from this pizzeria in doylestown, PA, which happens to be the best pizza I have ever put in my mouth. And then yesterday, I made a Red Velvet cake from scratch, and tonight, my entire family went to golden corral for dinner. So as of tonight, my bucket list is complete, and I start my pre-op liquid diet on Wednesday, for my surgery next Monday. We've been home for at least 2 hours, and I am still stuffed! But you know what??? I'm completey done. I will never be this weight again, and I will never be this unhealthy again. So in actuality, I can say that Wednesday will actually be the first day of the rest of my life. When I graduated high school, I gave one of the graduation speeches, and that was the title of my speech. I didn't know then, how prophetic that speech would be, some 34 years later. Wednesday will not only be the first day of the rest of my life, but Wednesday, I start LIVING!!

Pizza from my favorite pizzeria: 12.76

dinner with the family at an all u can eat buffet: 62.22

Knowing that I'll be able to ride bikes with my grandkids this summer: ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
