Hi All!

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

PS- I TRULY :heart: ALL SLEEVERS.

I had dumping...but only when I ate something I wasnt supposed to...SUGAR!

Dumping syndrome is not the norm for gastric sleeve, but my friend had some dumping incident. She did not have to go back to the hospital for it though. On some other forums on here I've heard of some talk about going to hospital for dehydration. Things will get better.

I am an Africa American sleever, got it done on 8/28/2013. I was fine leaver hospital now I'm home I'm experiencing pain swallowing from chest to stomach. I'm at a point where I'm scared to eat or drink. Has anyone experienced this?

Yes I was like that and it felt like a bubble in my chest with everything I ate or drank but what I did was took small sips and very small amounts of food on a spoon and waited. I took my time and it wasn't so bad and got better where now I am eating half teaspoons of food at a time but still on purred, had my surgery on the 29th. Just take your time.

Ok thank you let me try that now thank you. How long did the pain last? How are you feeling now?

I also experience the same discomfort. If I eat it drink to fast it happens. It feels like a ton of brick on my chest and throat.

Hello in new to the site just wanted to say hello sisters of faith!!!!

My surgeon is also black. I am very thankful to have found him. Actually my surgeon practices with two other black doctors. They're phenomenal. I just received approval from my insurance (BCBS) and will be sleeved on March 9th. I'm quite excited but a bit nervous of the unknown (hairloss' date=' excess skin, etc.) I too am very thankful not only for this forum but to vsg talk. I have learned so much from this site.[/quote']
