African American Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I am in the same boat. I loaded up on Protein during my preop. I was sleeved on Monday June 3rd. I found in my research that as long as we get our proper amount of Protein and water' date=' hair loss should be minimal to nonexistent.[/quote']

I pray this is true! I have been losing a ton of hair and I've not been sleeved yet. I'm June 24 th. I wonder if it's my nerves?! Ive been taking 2000mg of biotion and fish oil for the past 2 weeks. I hope it will help me. :/

To anyone who's post op at least 5 or more months... Did you experience dizzy spells? For about the past week and a half I've been having dizzy spells daily, a few times a day some days. Did anyone else experience this?

Hey, I'm new to this thread and I don't know if it's been touched on since it's like 79 pages worth. My question is about Hair loss. I both relax and straighten my hair with Keratin. I'd love to just do the Keratin but it's costly so I offset with the relaxer when $$$ is tight. Has anyone experienced hair loss post surgery before or after relaxing? Keratin? I guess what I want to know is should I process my hair before surgery or after. Or should I nix that all together and go natural until the hair loss stops? I've heard the hair loss is inevitable, but manageable... But this person was not one to process their hair (white ;) ).

Thanks Ebonisekim. I asked this same question on another page and realized I haven't been taking my Iron and that could be the cause. I was never good about taking it pre-op, but since the surgery limits what/how much I eat, my body could really be low on Iron now.

The dizzy spells could be due to dehydration or hypotension. I've been experiencing this for several months but found that once I up my Water and sodium intake, I'm ok.

Hey...Hair loss is very common post surgery which is why it's extremely important to get your Protein in...and don't forget those vitamins!!!

I was doing pretty good with a natural chop before surgery. Then in the third month post surgery I decided to get a relaxer. I did not take into account I'd be exercising more to speed up metabolism and keep weight loss at a regular pace. I just kept sweating my wraps right out. 50 dollars down the drain for a style that last 4 days tops. The following month my hair just kept breaking and was very brittle. It is definetly thinner.Dying it did not help the situation either. Just when you start wanting to slack on the Protein about your 3rd or fourth month is when you should be making sure you are getting it in the most.I decided cut it off and start over with my natural curls. That way its thicker looking. And easier to maintain after the gym.

I have been taking the Biotin before my surgery as well. I am completely natural but I do wear weaves and micros to take the pressure off of staying my natural hair. I also take omegas and now using coconut oil. I have had regular shedding but a lot of growth over the past year. I hope it continues;-)

I have been using Jamaican Black Castor oil on my hair, in addition to my Vitamins. I have heard good things about it from my hairdresser and friends. I also started taking Nature's Bounty Biotin gel cap. They are very small and go down easy. CVS has them on sale buy one get one free.

My doctor gave me Skincerity to rub on my scars. My surgery was May 30th so im not able to see any results. I heard that it works though.

What is skincerity?

It is a roll on nightly breathable masque that helps with repairing your skin. It will fade away the scars from the surgery. I was burned in my face a while ago and he told me to use it to remove those blemishes. He had a scar in his face that he used it on and you can no longer see it. Im hoping it will work on my skin.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
