i live in ca how much did you pay thank you nancy

All in cost was $13,000. That included the hospital, surgeon, nutritionist, etc. I used my insurance for all of my pre-op testing because they didn't know what it was for. LOL.

My surgeon(s) was Dr Max Hammer and co-surgeon Dr Orlando Icaza in Springfield IL. Dr Hammer only does laproscopic surgeries and has performed 650 bariatric surgeries. I was very happy, no complications and they seem to be very proactive!

My surgeon was Dr. Robert Marema at Flagler Hospital Bariatric Center in St. Augustine. Support will be in Orlando where I live. Sugery was the only thing I had to do in St. Augustine, everything else was done at the Orlando office including the pre-op consultation. They will fast track you too if you have your insurance requirements done. I actually didn't get into their program until July 14 and had surgery on August 24. Dr. Marema is a great surgeon, he did used the Spider on me and I have one incision through my belly button. He is very friendly and kind also. My husband was really impressed how they kept him updated through my procedure and Dr. Marema came out to talk to him when the surgery was over. Hearing it went textbook was just what my husband needed to hear.

Sorry for the long post but I can't say enough good things about Dr. Marema and their program.

my surgeon is Dr. John Garcia in bakersfield cali....surgery was at San Juaquine medical center. my doc is the nicest guy! i havent had any complications and my insicion sites are soooo tiny. i would recommend him to my own child.

the hospital was also the best i have ever been to. they have vallet parking for everone!!! no charge, or tips at all!!

the nursing staff treated me like royalty! i dont ever want to go to another hospital again! it is a 7th day adventist hospital, but they dont push anything on you, they are wonderful!!!

i dont know the price of the surgery as it was covered 100% by my insurance. i stayed 2 days in the hospital, but the normal stay is one day...the only reason for the extra day is because i live 200miles away and the doc wanted me to be close just in case.

like i said i would trust this doc and the hospital with my own children, there is no higher of a recomendation then that in my opinion!

Dr. Aceves did my surgery and i would give him all the stars in the world.

I was not at all afraid to go to Mexico by myself because of their wonderful staff and reputation. It's was easy to find many people who were willing to email their experiences and they are always glowing with praise about Dr. Aceves and their experience in Mexicali.

Dr. Aceves is one of the best bariatric surgeons in the world.

My surgeon was Dr. Jawad, Ocala, Fla. I had an awesome team of nurses at ORMC. They are very attentive to your needs. If I had to do it again, I would go with Dr. Jawad again.

My name is Bill and I had my surgery July 22, 2011 by Dr Francis Teng in Las Vegas, NV. I was in for just 24 hours at Mountainview Hospital. Both my experiences with the doctor and his staff have been fantastic. I have tons of co-morbities and he was very careful that I had clearance from all my other doctors before he even considered the surgery. My wife told me she was ready for lots of complications because everytime I go to the hospital for anything it turns into something else. We were so pleasantly surprised that this entire procedure has gone textbook perfect! Dr. Teng has given me back my life.

I have a pretty normal PPO insurance plan and the total cost for the hospital, Dr. and all the pre-op testing was around $3800 out of pocket.

Dr. Stanley Hoehn, KC Bariatric

Shawnee Mission Medical Center

Both the hospital and office staff were extremely nice and helpful. I have been very pleased. As for cost, we reached our out of pocket deductible early in the year when one of my kids was hospitalized for several days. We had no out of pocket cost. However I have seen what the charges submitted to insurance are and they are pushing $40,000 however my insurance company has paid about $20,000. I know Dr. Hoehn's office has self pay discounts.

I just met a lady who had it done at fountain valley. She was very happy there and is several years postop. She is now thinking about sending her daughter there. She looked good and healthy and happy.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
