I had my surgery August 31st. So far I have lost 50 to 53 lbs.

I had a lot of trouble with nausea, horrible pain in my neck and shoulders, and just felt awful.

I became very weak and not able to walk.

As it turned out, I was dehydrated. Now I drink Pedialyte (24 oz per day at least) along with the Water. I had to be hospitalized for 4 days for IV's. It scared us to death, we had no idea what was happening.

After hydration, nausea-gone, pain-gone, weakness-gone. I never knew dehydration could cause so many problems, but I have become an expert...the hard way.

If any of you are having trouble with nausea etc, try pedialyte along with your water. It helps your electrolytes.

I had the sleeve done on November 29th. I had no problems in surgery. I was nervous because I had never been under. Well that was nothing!!! I had some discomfort from the gas. I did not have a catheter or a drain tube no problems. I would do it again. I also was scared that I would not know if I knew when I was full. And I do!!! Yesterday was 3 weeks and I have lost 17lbs. Good luck!! I think the first week was the hardest with the liquids. I never want tobeat Jello again. But now I am eating mushy food such as scrambled eggs, oatmeal, tuna and today I had about 4 bites of grilled catfish. I do find that I have heartburn alot that I never had before. I just take prilosec for that.

Most likely your breast size will change a LOT after surgery, you might want to reverse the order of your procedures....Look in the "girls gone wild" folder here for breast stories...

I saw an obesity specialist about a possible research project the other day and he said the average weight loss with VSG is only 33% of excess weight. Well, I'm 3 months out and I've lost over 50% even if you want to be really radical and peg my goal weight at 130-135 or so (I'm aiming for 140-145).

33%! wow all the info I have read and what my surgeon told me is that sleevers will lose 75% of their excess in the first year

I almost had the band done, but after founding out the difference in loss and the time frame,I chose the sleeve

I lost 89% in the first year. And I ate carbs and vegetarian. It's a miracle!

What do you eat, feed?

Seitan (gluten- I make it from scratch myself or sometimes buy ready made products like whitewave), tofu and other soy products (soy dogs, morningstar products, TVP, soy milk, soy nuts, soy Protein Drinks, other processed fake meat products), Beans, nuts (mostly walnuts,or almond/flax seed butter and peanut butter), dairy(cheese, milk, half and half in moderation, greek yogurt, 1-2% cottage cheese, 1%milk) eggs, whey powders and veggie Protein Bars and snack products, seeds....and lots of veggies and fruit-mostly berries...whole grains in moderation...chocolate every day (usually one or two T's of dark chocolate chips!)

The key for me is I log everything in fitday. I can definitely over eat , so I just write it down and make sure I get enough Protein, and watch the calories...between around 1100-1500, I try to stay around 1200 most days to stay at my current weight.

I was at my surgeon's goal at five months out, and five lbs under a month later. At 23 months I am maintaining at my goal/under Dr. Davidson's goal with no problem. 100% of my excess weight it what I lost, I don't know what is "normal" but I know that this is possible, I never dreamed I'd lose this much! Initially THIS was NOT my goal, I would have been happy to get down to whatever weight just so I could wear a size 12. That happened in two shakes of a lamb's tail. I reset my goal to a size 8....I now wear 4's and 6's. The doctor set his goal at my 3 month ck up, and when I saw it was possible, I lowered it 5 lbs to give myself a pad. Set your goals high, it's possible, in fact, it's probable! Good luck!!!

It has been a while since I have logged on... and I just had my 4th month post op visit with my doctor/nutritionist. I have lost 43 pounds in total and am so EXCITED! I feel great!!

Now, I am a little bit concerned because the NUT said that I am about 50%. He said most gastric sleeve patients lose 65% of their excess weight. So, that would mean, if I weighed 100 pounds over my IDEAL weight then I am expected to lose about 65 pounds and they consider that to be the norm. NOW, I want to lose the 100 pounds that I am over weight by -- but the NUT made me feel like that was not typical and went one to say that when one is heavy it takes more energy and therefore you lose more weight but once you have lost about 65% of the excess weight it is more difficult... So, is he trying to discourage me or, well, I don't know?

So, those of you who have had the surgery and are at the 1 year mark -- did you lose ALL your excess weight or was it the 65% of the EXCESS weight that my NUT was talking about?

My surgeon's #'s are even higher. His patients lose over 90% of their excess weight.

hi Lexsan,

this is kindof a crash i think (changing a subject midstream) but you are a newbie - so thats ok.

things will change considerably with your breasts after the surgery, the girls will be "hanging" down more, and not as big. So IMO hold off on the breast surgery. You will lose some breastsize post surgery. So its better to wait.

luck for your WLS. Enjoy your walk through sleeveland

kathy

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
