Still alive and well in Orange City, FL....going today to see if I need an unfill.....have lost 16lbs in 14days as can't keep much down! Figured 2 wks was a good try to see if the band loosened a bit and it's not!!!

God Bless,

My dr believes in "not wasting your money" ....so the first fill was 2.4cc....they removed 1.8cc....then on July 5th they put in 3cc....I drank 4 sm glasses of Water....on the way home took a sip and promptly vomitted all over myself....called them drove back 50mi and he used flouro and removed 0.1cc....I truly did 4 days of liquids as instructed then slowly went forth....but I vomit almost every day at lunch....can't drink til around 10:30am or it gets stuck....at least cold stuff....then can only eat around 3 or 4 bites for lunch....usually stuck by then....then dinner just depends.... more days than not I can only eat about1/4 cup?! I thought it would lessen and tried not to complain..but it's stressed my husband as he's watched and worried!!! LIke I said LOVE the weight loss... .but this isn't the way ...and I don't want slippage from too tight....I'm thinking if they remove maybe 0.4cc I should be great!! We shall see....

Thanks for asking and caring!!

God Bless,

MElody

Hi, Im Angie..I live in Northern Virginia about 20 min outside of DC. I live with my bf and 1/2 the time with his 2 boys. I have a porky bulldog named Tyson who takes care of the need for my own children. I am an assistant property manager for 7 commercial office buildings in Reston, VA. My surgery is August 9th. I weigh 288, am 5'8 and will be 31 in December. My fantasy goal is 164 but would be ok with 185..so somewhere in between. Been fat since birth, so have a lot to look forward to. I have a degree in Pastry and cooking so that didnt help! "Never trust a skinny chef" was always my motto..not anymore dammit! Its taken a year to get approved through insurance..bastards..but at least that parts done!

Well....I'm checking in!! Believe it or not he did NOT unfill me!!?!?! He used flouro and the liquid went through in less than 1 sec....I watched!!! He was great and listened to my details...then walked me over to another doc and we all three discussed what to do! I am on liquids another 2 wks and then he wants to see me....the only negative is driving 105mi each way....and drinking liquids!! We think that since I have thrown up almost every day....lost 17lbs in 14days....then I have just kept irritating myself!? Made sense too me.....I told him I just didn't want to cause my band to be displaced! He said he believed I would be fine especially since I do well w/ liquids later in the day. I am not dehydrated. There are risks w/ putting a needle in the port. I truly feel good long as I'm not arfing/pb'ing, etc!!

There is such a learning curve w/ this band stuff!! The biggest blessing was he didn't charge me today!!! YIPPEEE!!! I must pay him as he did not do my surgery b/c I used to live in TN.

Thank you so much for caring!!!!

GOd Bless,

Melody

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
