Donebare, you're doing great on losing the weight. GREAT JOB> How does it feel being sleeved?

Cookie, thinking of you today and hope your surgery goes well tomorrow. Hugs

Hi Hi Lisa Lisa,

To get sleeved, I was in the hospital for 2 nights & 3 days. I felt weak, very nauseous, and slept the whole time I was there. My surgeon almost made me stay another day because I developed a fever during the 2nd night.

On the third day I was almost feeling completely normal. I had no nausea, a little stomach pain, and slight incision tenderness. After two days at home I stopped taking the liquid pain medication. I went back to work 1 week after surgery.

Because I was feeling so great- and because I'm just a dumb guy, I decided to break the liquid diet. I experimented 3 times. I once tried scrambled eggs. I once tried a bite of toast. I once tried a small piece of chicken from a friend's lunch. Needless to say I threw-up 3 times.

Today I start stage 3 foods. Do you know where I can get a food processor that will acommodate a large King Arthur Supreme from Round Table?

I am happy that I got sleeved and have no regrets.

Talk to you soon,

Don

Stacey- How are you feeling? Are you out of the hospital yet? Sending good thoughts your way!

Did anyone go to the Kaiser Point West meeting last weekend? I completely forgot! There is not December meeting, so the next Sacramento Kaiser Point West support meeting will be the 4th Saturday in January, 1/22/11. Hope to meet some of you there!

I have two appts in SSF next week, the lifestyle/nutrition classes (and hoping to do the medical clearance that morning) and on Thurs I've got my psych eval. I hate to drive so much in one week, but I love that SSF can get me in quickly. They're so accomadating!

I just got a call and they scheduled my surgery for January 5th. I'm so overwhelmed, excited, nervous, scared. Confused. Happy.

Hi everyone!

I am home and sleeved. I was also there 3 days and 2 nights. I felt GREAT the first day except for the horrible back pain on the left. The second day, I was praying for death. It was horrible. I threw up all day and had a RN that for whatever reason refused to give me meds. I have let them know about it and will be filing a complaint about him. If you go to SSF, I hope you have Ernie as your RN. He is so awesome, I can't even tell you. He is truly the reason I am home today. He spent so much time making sure I was comfortable and got past what the other one had done. Eileen and Evelyn are full of energy and are real cheerleaders. I am really happy about the over all experience.

I am really tired, and ready for bed, but I am home and have no regrets. The only problem I am having is I am afraid to eat. After throwing up all day yesterday, I am scared for a repeat. I have been drinking all day and have had lots of Water and some crystal light (apple)

I am so happy that you have appts coming up Heather! I am unbelievably excited for you! :)

Lisa, you will do great, It is so worth it!

Stacey, you had Dr. Le too right? David Le? I think I need to talk to them about my monthly. I think I will be having it the time they scheduled me for surgery and I'm not sure that would be a great idea. Thoughts anyone?

Stacey, I'm so glad you got through it ok. I hope you keep me posted as to your experience. Glad you are home and in your own bed. Aloha, Lisa

Yes, I had David Le. He is such a great guy. Not just as a surgeon, but I listened to his interaction with his staff and the OR staff and he is just really nice. Not like surgeons I have had in the past. I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone. I am so glad I made the switch to SSF.

I don't know what to say about your monthly, I don't have them anymore, but from what I understand, a lot of women get theirs with the surgery, even if it isn't time. But I don't have any definitive info for you.

Lisa...As far as your monthly is concerned, it does not matter if you have it during surgery. You are not allowed to use a tampon during surgery but a pad. They recommend wearing some ugly throwaway panties with a pad and then when you get in the surgery room tell the nurses to just throw them away. They will give you a gigantic pad to use. Then after you wake up you can put on a clean pair of panties and use your own pads (which they recomend because their pads are gigantic and not comfy). I had to stop my birth control a few weeks ago so I am all out of whack. I am hoping not to have to deal with it during surgery but if it happens oh well. Just a little embarassing but nurses have seen it all.

Thanks Stacey. I like him too. What is the name of the nurse you DIDN"T like. How are you feeling today? Have you eaten anything yet?

Amber, thanks for the info. It makes sense. I might be at the tail end of it if it comes on time. We'll see. I'll talk to them on the17th when I go in to sign forms.

The nurse I didn't like was Marc. He might have been having a bad night, but from what I understand, he is new and I wasn't his first complaint.

So far I have only had Water, crystal light, a Popsicle and a half (my granddaughter had the other half), two pudding packs and about 5 bites of applesauce. I woke up this morning feeling a little dizzy, so I am nursing a Protein Shake from costco. I actually woke up craving one. Until today, nothing has sounded remotely appealing, so that's a good sign. And so far, I am keeping it down and it tastes the same as pre-op. I was worried about that.

Were you in richman in nov? I was there with my husband and daughter. I have mine Dec 7 so excited

I have only been out to Richmond twice so far. Once on Nov 12th for my psych appt and then on Dec 2nd for my pre-op classes. The other times I got to go to vacaville. Which was wonderful because I am in Sacramento. Congrats on our surgery date. That is super close! Are you all prepared?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
