LadyK,

Hope your doing great and feeling sexy! I feel so good and so glad I made this decision. I get my first fill 11/13 and cant wait. My stomach sure feels like it wants more food so I have to be careful as I eat something and then push it away. Wow what a change. Take care all, Jules

Hello,

I have my first fill on November 9th, so I am hoping all goes well and I jump start the losing again. The restriction I was feeling is now gone and I am constantly feeling unsatisfied with my small portions. I have not lost anything for the last two weeks. This seems typical as I read through the posts....How is everyone doing and what are you eating when you eat out?

I am doing just fine, in need of another fill but otherwise ok. Since my last fill 4 weeks ago, I have lost between 10 - 8 pounds. I have been gaining, then loosing the same 2 lbs for over a week. I can also eat a little more than I usually do; and my meals no longer sustain me for 3 to 4 hours anymore. Everything points to a fill, I just hate all the red tape and hoops you have to jump through to get a fill. All the referral and insurance stuff is well worth the the feeling of restriction. I love the restriction feeling and I am sure you will love it also. The restriction feeling, is the control that I wish I was born with. Good luck with your fill.

I live in Berwyn near the Metra tracks. I have been banded since June 2nd. I have not had a fill yet mostly due to finances. My husband is out of work so I am hoping he will get a job soon so I can get a fill. I have lost about 30 lbs which is better than nothing. I know I could do much better with a fill. I plan to get one in a few weeks regardless of my husbands job status.

Hi, I am Amber from Elgin, Illinois. I am looking into getting the lap band surgery. I am going to my doctor on Thursday Nov. 9th to hopefully get a referral. I contacted my insurance BCBS of Illinois HMO and they stated that it is covered. Has anyone had trouble getting a referral from there primary care doctor? What about problems with the BCBS HMO. If any one could help I would appreciate it. I would like to get this done ASAP.

Thank You

Amber

if anyone has a "lapband" get together???

Hi everyone, I was banded in July but I just found this thread. I would love to find out about a lap band get together. I joined the bariatric surgery group with meetup.com - but they never actually "meet up".

I live in Chicago but was banded in Mexico. I follow up at Loyola with Dr Temple - he is great!

Dr. Temple is great, he just did my 3rd fill yesterday.

In order to get a referral from your PCP, it is good if you have a relationship with your doctor. Your doctor must be aware and or possibly be treating you for your co-morbidities. My doctor was aware of my high blood presure, and she was treating me for it. She was also aware of my winter seasonal asthma, and recent back surgery for a herniated disc, oh and also my 220 lbs that I was unable to shed. I had to document and provide her with a list of the other supervised weight loss methods that I had tried over the last 3 to 5 years. Once I did that, she submitted my referral and that was only the beginning. You still have to have several test once you are in the program, it will take a few months to get clearance for surgery. Hang in there, it takes a while to get through the red tape, but it is well worth it.

I have asked several times about arranging a get together. If you are interested please let me know. I will gladly make reservations somewhere fo us to eat and have a party type room to sit and talk. Let me know if you are in, really in, I did this last year, had several people say they would be there and it ended up just being 2 members and the people we brought with us. ...~Mandy

Mandy--I would be truly in for it. I know all to well how it goes when you set something up and no one shows. I would love to do that once I am banded and feeling like going out. Also distance is a factor for me too, I live in Dekalb....But I think it would be great! :)

I'm in Romeoville but don't mind to travel. We did something downtown last time, it was a stir fry place, you build your own mixture and they cook it for you. Veggestyle, you would be welcome pre-band, last time I brought my gastric by-pass friend. Also husbands are welcome. I will need to know if kids are coming so I can plan a kid friendly place. Any suggestions on where to go? I just don't eat pork and I know that Veggestyle doesn't do meat. ~Mandy

I am open to most times/days. I have something going on the 12th but other than that I am free. Who's in? I say we give until the 11th to signup, and then we plan for the 18th or 19th? ~Mandy

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
