Post-surgical smell?

Recommended Posts

At first I thought it was just some weird BO smell since I can't wear deodorant, but I don't smell it when I get completely naked. Then I started sniffing around my condo and smelled the clothes I've worn since coming home from the surgery center, the bandages they used, and the post-surgical bra they put me in, and they all have this strange smell! I've washed them all at least 3 times and it's getting more faint, but I can still smell it. Maybe it's the surgical scrub they used that's rubbed off on everything? Does anyone have any idea what this is and how I can make it go away? It's driving me crazy! I might try to take my second full shower today to make sure I've got all of it off of me so I'm no longer spreading it around...

I don't know what you're smelling, but something I did notice shortly after surgery.... I noticed a body odor coming off of me  It was weird, because I wasn't eating onions, garlic, spicy foods, etc. It went away, but I did notice it. Odd.......

That happened to me after my sleeve surgery. My theory is that my calorie intake was so reduced that my body was in ketosis, and that can cause mouth and body odor and a strange taste in the mouth. So unless you have a fever or your incisions aren't healing or you have a rash somewhere, you're probably OK. My bad smell went away after a week or so.

The smell definitely isn't coming from me. This was after a breast and arm lift so my eating didn't change either. The smell is only on clothing I've worn since surgery. My mom believes it is the pre-surgical scrub they used. I was awake when they scrubbed my arms and breasts with two different soy sauce colored solutions, but I can't remember what they smelled like...Or maybe it's just the "hospital smell" absorbed into the bra and gauze that's rubbed off onto my other clothes?

One of those solutions (I believe) is Betadine. Not sure on the other one. When I gel my fills, she slathers that all over the needle site.

I think what Jean said (regarding bariatric surgery) is right on the mark. But for your procedure, sounds like you just need to get that hospital ick off of you

I have a very keen sense of smell, too -- we should open a perfumerie or a bloodhound detective agency!

Maybe you can wash everything in baking soda or something like that.....?

I have a beagle/bassett hound, so let's do it!

I didn't think of adding baking soda. I'll give that a try. I'm seriously going to piss off my HOA and hang them outside on the balcony for a few hours tomorrow if that doesn't work! This is driving me crazy!

I did take my second shower today and rubbed some orangish-brown stuff off my back and sides that I couldn't reach before, so hopefully that's the last of it!

Distiller vinegar in place of the fabric softener on the hottest cycle possible. Then in the dryer us essential oil such as lemon or lavender on a microfiber rag.

Pm if you need more info on the oils.

I used distilled vinegar and lemon juice after a bit of online research, and it definitely helped take the edge ogf the smell. I think using the essential oils might be the key to getting rid of the bit that's lingering. Thanks for the tip!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
