Any smokers prior to surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am required by my insurance company to be tobacco free for so long before banding. With all of the fears and anxiety I have about the surgery quitting the awful habit is feeling impossible.

You could try quitting by vaping down to 0% nicotine juice. I used to smoke camel turkish royals and tried 24mg nicotine juice when I first started vaping, which I found to be too much, so I went to 18, then to 12, did 12 for about a year and then 5, and now 0% and just trying to get away from having to have something in my hand habit now. And I've done cold turkey and prescription, which never stuck, but vaping worked for me.

Try hypnosis. Sounds crazy, but really works.

I dropped Cigs cold turkey when I had my gallbladder removed prior to Being Banded. It was rough but I'm 6 month without a drag. It makes me nauseated to smell smoke. I lost a step parent to lung cancer so I am glad I broke the cycle in my life.

I quit 8 mths ago. I used E-cigs also. They have a couple different % of nicotine I started at the highest and went to the lowest, and then slowly tapered down how much I smoked. I got down to about a couple drags every once in awhile and then none. It was easier than I expected, easier than all the other times. Now I just have to never pick one up. That is the hard part. But so far so good I get banded the 28th of May.

I used v2 cigs and within 6 months I wasn't smoking at all. They have awesome starter kits (I bought the couples kit 12 mg ended up more than enough and I was smoking Marlboro red 100s)I still have it and plenty of the products for it but August will be two years since I quit everything.

http://www.v2cigs.com/ is the link for the ones I used.

My best suggestion is force yourself to no tobacco just the Ecig for a few days-I was told 7 days by the rep.

I quit two weeks after my surgery using Chantix and the Nebraska Quit line. I think it is the second best thing I have done for myself. I am 12 weeks smoke free and breathing better everyday.

Madvapes.com is a good site too for starter kits and supplies. There is a learning curve to e-cigs (aka vaping), take a look at the ECF forum, they were a huge help in getting me started on what I was doing and also youtube was a big help.

E-cigs worked for me too.. I smoked for 31 years... I started at 11yrs old!!! I know GOOD LORD!!! but I quit July 11, 2012 and was banded on August 1, 2012... I figured out that it wasn't the nicotine that was my habit... its the HABIT.. that is my problem.. you eat, you smoke, you drink coffee, you smoke... you stress, you smoke.. so... I am ok with having the e-cig for the rest of my life if I must... as long as I never have to pick up another cigarette. I breathe better, I feel better, and I am OH so proud of my accomplishment. Try it.. You will be glad you did. Giving up the cigarettes, and the food is a huge stresser, don't do that to yourself. Even if you work yourself down to 0 nicotine cartridges like I did.. its the habit that will help you. Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
