What are the symtoms of band slippage or ripped stitches

Recommended Posts

I am on third week post op and have lost 25 lbs but even though I am really trying from the bottom of my heart to eat well and mostly do, I eat bigger portions and eat bigger bites. I am extremely hungry constantly. I am allowed soft foods at this stage, soft enough to break with fork. I am really afraid of what it maybe doing or done to my band. I have no pain whatsoever, not even in my port area. Feels like no band at all. Please can someone tell me what it feels like if stitches are ripped or if the band slips. Has anyone gone thru it in the post op stages. Please advice. Thanks

No offense....but I feel too many people get too paranoid about possible problems like slippage, erosion, etc....

It is not as common as one might think....yes people come here stating their problems with the band....but it is only a very, very small percentage of people compared to those who don't have any problems at all....

One thing I have noticed....this website is made up entirely of people either just starting out, looking for advice because they really don't have a clue, or people who are experiencing some sort of problem and also come here looking for advice.....

The overwhelmingly majority of people with no problems at all, have been successful and completed the process, have no reason to come here and are all long gone...

I know, I belong to a private group of veterans who USED to be here, and tell me all the time they have no desire to return.....and question why I am aa glutton for punishment.....because there is nothing to gain by coming here.....

So my advice is to chill, take it easy, listen to your Dr., and don't get caught up into everything you read here......Don't loose sight of the Forrest because of the trees....

That's would be like saying "I don't like summertime activities because people talk about being struck by Lightning...." Yet you will not hear from those who are out there enjoying themselves everyday, and have no reason to complain or talk about it....or look for advice and suggestions....

I am about 3 weeks post op to and I feel the same exact way about my band slipping. I think it's my nerves more than anything because I know I have done some wrongful eating lately but not overeating because I get that stuck feeling so I can't over eat. However, I lost 15lbs so far and I just read on here today that was motivation for me "listen to your body and not your brain" I am not hungry as much as my mouth and brain tells me because my stomach is not growling. Good luck. We come to far to mess up now. Stay focus

In 2 days, I will have my 2 year banding anniversary. If you're anything like me, every new sensation will freak you out a bit mentally. I, however, knew that I would have these moments. I have had no issues with or because of my band aside from heart burn. A small unfill fixed that. Don't let every little thing freak you out. Unless you are having severe discomfort, pain or can't keep anything down, you're probably fine. It will take a while to get used to the way your body reacts to your band.

Thank you. All your responses helped me a lot. I should just stop over thinking things. Just should control my hunger till my first fill which is three weeks away and stick to the one cup portion. I feel fine and happy with my weight loss even though I am not loosing since one week. Thanks again.

Thank you for this post. I had to travel and had to improvise for some meals. Slightly chunky Soup, really small pieces of a little piece of chicken. Lots of Water and liquids. I'm not quite 2 weeks out from surgery and was wondering if I screwed up my stomach or made a problem with the band healing etc.

Was banded yesterday feeling ok, A little soreness but I think that is because of the hernia. I also have noticed a cough, that makes my stomach hurt. I have been good as far as liquid food goes. Has anyone experienced hunger pangs the day after getting banded. beacause my stomach keeps growling but I have a full feeling.

You shouldn't feel it unless something is wrong

Hi Jackie, my stomach was growling a TON the day after surgery, but I read another post that said growling doesn't always mean you're hungry when you're banded. And instead of freaking out that I was hungry I took a few minutes and realized that although my stomach was making noises, I was in fact not hungry. It's pretty normal that your stomach will make noises and it doesn't mean what it used to mean. I think there are a lot of new sensations we have to get used to.

Every surgeon must do first fills differently because the program I'm following the doctor does the first fill 2 weeks after surgery. He said in his experience that patients were starving waiting 4-6 weeks for the first fill so he does the first at 2 weeks. I'm looking forward to it because I have to eat every 2 hrs to keep from being hungry already and I'm one week out!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
