March 2013 Surgery Dates?

So I was banded yesterday! So far so good. I had gas pains yesterday, but i walked alot and had my gas x strips and heating pad..im feeling much better today. We fly home today, im ready to see my kids! The port site is only one that hurts. Plus I feel my stomach is weighted down. But that is to be expected. They also installed a pain ball, its a plastic ball with 2 days of medicine. It has a little plastic tube attached under my skin it gives my incisions a steady dose of pain medication. Once the medicine is gone they told me to take a deep breath and pull it out..

So many people seem to be in better shape than me after a couple of days. I'm better than I was yesterday, but still have a hard time breathing. I feel like I was hit in the stomach with an anvil, so deep breaths are painful. Maybe it's because of the extras I had done on top of the band, but I do feel better today, and trust that each day will improve.

Good for you! I have that weighted down feeling as well. My stomach was so distended and hard as a rock for a couple of days. It still is a bit, but it's better than before. Getting rid of the gas helps.

Not really. The first few days were not the worst for me. The anesthesia and pain meds from the hospital held over a while. It was more painful than I thought it would be and I didn't have done all that you did. Every once in awhile I still have difficulty taking a full, deep breath. It catches where there is still some gas trapped in there. I sneezed last night and thought I was going to bust all the stitches in my gut! And the gas pain in my shoulder is HORRENDOUS! Nothing resolves it, not walking, not gas-x, not Water, not anything. Laying flat helps for hours on end but then I have to get up again! Don't be too hard on yourself. We're all different and we all deal with the pain individually. You don't have to be brave, my friend. :)

Someone said to lie there and put a pillow or two under the hip/butt area to raise it higher than your heart, and it will come out naturally. I didn't try it, it might work though.

Thanks Rosie. I'm a little frustrated, but I know it's ridiculous to think that I'd be up and around three days after surgery. I didn't want to take anymore liquid Vicodin, but ended up taking a dose a couple of hours ago.

I SO know what you mean on the gas; shoulder pain, chest.... It seems to have resolved a bit, but then I'll feel the dagger. Like you, I feel best when laying down. Luckily, we have an ergo adjustable bed, so I can raise my head and feet to different levels. Since the surgery, I sleep with the remote in my hand

Yes, the breathing thing is a big issue. Sometimes, when I walk up the stairs, I damn near hyperventilate. I don't even realize that I'm breathing very shallow breaths, so the exertion really brings me to my knees. But again, when reclining or laying down, I'm okay.

Thanks for your post.....you're a doll!

I tried laying on my left side (I heard that works with gas), but it's too painful cuz of the surgery. How long do "they" say it takes for the gas to relieve completely?

I'm so bored with the post-op liquid, I decided to drink a bottle of this Isopure clear Protein Drink I bought before surgery. It's the apple flavor, and I have to tell you, the gas is coming out of me like crazy. The dog is looking at me like WTF is that!!! I'm laughing hysterically as I'm writing this (what other forum can we be so graphic?). I don't know if it's coincidence, or if it's the drink, but here is a link to it. I bought it at the Vitamin Shoppe, but I'm sure other health food stores carry it. I'm praying that I'm over the gas part of this by morning. I really do think it's the drink :P

You are not alone...today was postop day 9 and I finally left the house alone! I still can't sit for extended periods of time, but it does get much better! I was only going to take 1 week off but ended up taking 2 off! Won't go back til next Tuesday!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
