This is my Day 3 (surgery was on Monday) and I am still pretty sore in my abs around my incisions and also in my shoulder and around my diaphragm (the muscle you use to breathe). My back is also sore from a lot of time in bed I think. I have tried to be up and about as much as possible and actually walked 30 min on the treadmill today - walked very slowly, but I did it!

If anyone finds a magic cure for the gas pain please do let me know! My husband is picking me up some gas-x tonight so hopefully that will help. It's just miserable.

I'm also having trouble drinking enough. I feel full so fast and I don't want to push things but I'm having trouble hitting the 6 cup minimum my doc recommends for liquids. A challenge!

I was banded Monday too, my gas pains are almost completely gone today, but i am having burping etc like crazy... I quit the Tylenol w/codine last night. I am also pretty sore around my left side of my abdomen. My right side compared feels really good,

Drinking is a struggle. I got to move onto strained cream Soups, yogurt stage 1 baby food, sf pudding and sf custards today. While also trying to fit in 1 Protein Drink throughout the day with the water!!! It takes a long time just to get my 2 to 4 oz of strained Soup down, but its tasty!

Its defiantly gotten better each day so far though. I drove to Walmart and went shopping alone today, got my walk in, it was stormy here, so to walk inside warm was nice :)

I wish I could burp! It's like the burp is stuck under the band - I feel it there and I try but it won't come out! This am I was finally able to rid myself of some gas the other way (ahem) and it was such a huge relief, I feel sooooo much better now! It's unbelieveable the difference!

My left side is much more sore than my right side as well. Today I am still on Clear Liquids (broth, diluted juice, Jello, with protein powder) but tomorrow I am allowed to start the "semi-liquid" phase so yogurt, milk, oatmeal, pureed fruit, etc. I am looking forward to some fruit smoothies! That will be so awesome! Although I am still not hungry at all, just thirsty.

I was banded yesterday at 11 a.m. at the surgi center and the staff was great! Felt a little queezy after but that dissipated once I got home. I was home by 3:15 and yesterday and today I have had some minor abdominal pain. It is hard to take the liquids because I just don't feel thirsty at all but I know we are supposed to. Been taking the percosets for pain (have to crush up and drink with my liquid - so gross) and trying to move around as much as possible. I do feel hungry though. I think this will be hard for a week of clear liquids. Hopefully it gets easier!

Hello to all my March Lab bandsters!

I'm on my 7th day of pre-surgery diet, 2 Protein Shakes and 1 healthy meal (no sugar, salt, fatty food, fried food, carbs, starch...) All the salad and fruit i want (no bananas or carrots) is this pretty much what everyones has to go thru before the surgery??

Day 4

Hi all it is day 4 for me. Here are some updates - pain is minimal. I take prescription at night only and don't think I will need it tonight. sleeping well on side and tummy even! Nap during the day but otherwise good. Not.hungry.at.all! Sipping Soup and a shake plus sf Popsicles and yogurt. Can't hold much. Feel like I have an "air baby" in my tummy! Probably gas but not painful yet!

I work from home so can move around when I want. Still very puffy and swollen from surgery. Aside from getting tired after being up and about I am really good! Even met a friend for lunch - she ate while I sipped tea! Of course I needed a nap after

No horror stories here. It's all good! Follow up at dr in the morning

Sorry so abrupt. I'm not a good typist on the iPad!

Best wishes to my fellow march bandsters. Looking forward to watching my energy rise and the scale drop!

Just an update! Surgery went well. Had a hospital hernia repaired during surgery. I woke up feeling like I was hit by a truck. No incision pain. But the gas pain I have is pretty bad in my shoulder and neck. Have been up already walking. But I am very tired. I just got ice chips and that was the best thing ever! Will be here overnight and go home in the morning. I am officially a bandster!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
