How do you feel 5 days after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am being banded on a Tuesday and I have a birthday party on the Saturday! How did you all feel around this time?

I'm assuming ill be sore but can I go to this party or will I be in that much pain?

Thanks

To be honest the pain threshold varies from person to person. If anything you will feel tired and you won't be able to eat anything at the party. Your stomach is still healing.

When I had surgery I got winded very easily. It was hard for me to walk to long. I remember taking a trip to the store with my husband was horrible. My stomach was all bloated and puffy from surgery and just walking around the store was making me sooo tired and winded, you would think I just ran 10 miles, it took me forever to walk anywhere. When I would get home I would take a nap.

It would be best to take it easy and heal. There will be plenty of birthdays and I am sure your friends will understand. It's really important to heal properly to avoid potential complications.

J Rob is right. For me, I was never in much pain. But I was hungover and traumatized by the anesthesia, meds and antibiotics they pumped into my body. I think I could have gone but I wouldn't want to hang for too long?

Today is day 5 post op for me. I actually went back to work yesterday. I will say I'm extremely tired. You could probably attend the party, but I wouldn't want to stay for a long period of time. Good luck with your surgery!

I felt pretty good. I had my surgery on Tuesday afternoon and went to the movies with my neice on Friday, and was back at my desk at work the next Monday.

I'm six days post-op, and I felt really good yesterday. Probably too good because I stood at the counter making Soup for an hour, which ended up sending me to bed for the rest of the day and night :)

If I were you, I'd just wait and see. The pain med they gave me really affected me, and I don't even rememer the day after surgery at all (which is funny because I felt pretty good coming out of anesthesia and remember most of that time). I feel good today, day six, but I have to go back to work tonight, and I'm really dreading it because I get tired really easily and still don't have much lung capacity for talking. I'm a teacher, so I need to talk long and loud, and I'm not quite sure my body will do that yet, but I'll try.

You may fly right through it and you may not, but only time will tell. Good luck and keep your expectations very reasonable, and you'll do great.

I'm day 4 post surgery and I still feel pretty ****. I've been out and to be honest I shouldn't have. My advice is that to make sure you don't feel completely **** the next day don't do the party. I can't really walk more than a short distance to the shops and back and even then I need a sleep! I certainly couldn't do a party and I was actually quite fit pre-op (marathon and half marathons). They'll be plenty more party's, but at day 5 just chill. But as people have said here everyone's different so that is just my experience based on me. You could be different.

i am 4 days post op right now. Tomorrow is 5 days. I feel like crap. I am weak and tired. My belly is still swollen and i still have to have help when I stand up sometimes. The port area pulls a little bit when I stand. I can walk fine on my own and really not in any pain. However, I feel like I had a major bout of flu. That hit by a truck feeling has not left me yet. I would just wait and see how you feel. I am sure people will understand if you are not feeling up to a party. Also, depending on who's party it is, if you are feeling crappy you run the risk of taking away attention from the birthday boy/girl. If people are making sure you are ok they arent paying attention to the reason for the party.

Just above all listen to your body and take care not to over do it. If you feel up to it, go. But just make sure you are doing the best for you.

Today is day 7 for me. I went back to work yesterday and served in kids ministry at church on Sunday. Everyone is different, but I suspect you'll be okay if you go easy.

Well, guys, I had surgery yesterday and I feel like crap. Didn't quite expect to be in this much pain. Drinking is very difficult. I just need someone to tell me that it gets better and soon.

It definitely gets better! I'm still sore on my left side, but it's certainly bearable. I swell in my tummy as the day goes on, but it's getting better too.

It gets better new girl. I posted earlier how crappy I was feeling. My husband went and got me Ensure clear peach flavored drink. Has Vitamins and Protein in it. Has to be the clear liquid at this stage. I am more awake now and actually feeling a lot better just from a few hours ago. I had difficulty drinking at first too. It will get better. Just don't make the mistake I did and think that you will be fit as a fiddle 3 days later. We are all different. Pay attention to your body. Lean on your support system. They will help you through. Post here whenever you need a little help. Everyone here has been great.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
