How many calories are you all eating? I am starting to panic. I was banded on 11/26/2012 and I have lost 30 pounds( including pre-op) but it has come to a screaching hault!! I dont know why! I am losing/gaining the same pound and half back over the last weeks.

I started back to the gym and have been doing 45 minutes to an hour of cardio. I woke up today and I am so sore on my left side that I think I may have done too much. I have been averaging about 1100 -1200 ( high end) calories per day. I am still on soft foods so I do tend to have 2 shakes a day and then a one cup dinner. I am sure that this is an irrational emotional response but I see what everyone else is losing and I am afraid that I am failing.

I was banded 6/29/10 so it has been about 2 1/2 years. I have lost a total of 163 pounds. I just had my annual check up and was suprised that in the past year I was only down 26 pounds. My weight loss has slowed considerably but I am ok with it. It came of like gangbusters at first. When I think back though... I was way more dilligent when I first started this journey. I still feel like I am but I will allow myself little treats now (here and there) and I didn't at all the first year or so. I keep losing, slowly but surely... I've never really gained any back (a pound or two here and there but weight fluctuates and it is usually gone again as quick as it came.) I am hoping to make it through the next week without any gain and come January first really get back to the old ways and see what I can do.

I have great restriction. I can eat most anything but I get satisfied on a cup of food.

Keep up the Battle!!!! Nice work!

Was banded 10/31/12 i have 34 lbs since surgery & 44 total including preop.. Where are you at with your weight loss. Do u have restriction? I dont have restiction.

Less than 2 months and down 44 lbs? That is awesome. I didn't have any fills until the 2nd month post op... It's complete willpower and calorie counting. It will get easier when you get in the green zone I promise.

I am in the same boat. Up and down and have only lost 20 in 2 months. Although I have not been counting calories, but I can't hardly keep anything down. I am going to start a journal (after christmas - LOL). Maybe that will help me realize what I am doing wrong :( My logic is probably a little off, but if I am not eating the same stuff before the surgery and have such drastically reduce portion sizes and sweets, then it would only figure that the weight would fall off. I mean if it took thousands of calories to maintain 280 lbs (beginning wt), one would think limited intake would cause the lbs to go away. Maybe my body has gone into starvation mode (again). I'm getting frustrated!!!

If you cannot ingest at least 1000 calories a day, your body will go into starvation mode and you will not lose weight! I stopped losing because for one week I had 400-500 calories left over every day! I started reaching my minimum caloric intake for a week and I started losing again. I am 3 weeks post op and am down 26 lbs.

I eat 800-850 cal a day (sometimes less) since soft food stage 3 months ago and I'm down 50 lbs and still losing regularly. This was cleared by my surgeon and my NUT, btw before anyone has a fit!

 I had surgery 10/23/12 and have lost 31 lbs. I can not seem to get this restriction sweet spot. Im either unrestricted or getting stuck, but continue to work it all the time. filling unfilling etc. GOOD NEWS!!!! I'm at my halfway point today. 31 lbs lost, 31 to go. So inspired by those of you who have lost 50 or 80 etc. It can be done!!!

Hard to imagine but you give me faith.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
