Day 5 Post Op Feeling Amazing.

Recommended Posts

Well I must say this has been a much easier journey then I had planned. I had my surgery the 17th Friday the 18th I went garage saleing and yep over did it getting in and out of the truck. Saturday I was able to shower for the first time and relaxed all day got up hourly to walk. And started to ween from the loratab and started on liqued tylenol. Sunday was another relaxing day went to visit a friend for about an 1hour rested walked. Today Monday I have had no pain meds back to work. I run a daycare center with help of course not lifting. And feel great I am down 19 lbs. I am on all liqueds but struggling to get my 60 grams of Protein a day and my 64 oz of Water. I start pureed in 3 days am thinking about doing a little bit of pureed tuna and fat free Salad Dressing about 2 oz today. Just to help me get the protien. I am just feeling a little wiped out but I am not hungry. Any suggestions? I can have fat free Jello pudding and the tuna would be a lighter consistency then that I thought. Cant get a hold of my Dr. till tomorrow. Hope everyone is haveing a great day.

Keep up the good work, and keep us posted on your journey.

One thing though.....pureed tuna? Ugh... That just doesn't sound good at all...... Lol

That sounds great. I felt bad for three days then better. However, energy was a problem. It is hard to adjust to little calories and I was like you, I didnt want to eat or drink anything. It was a struggle to get 1/2 of what I was expected to do. I did start to have 1 - 2 bottles of crystal light energy. It is a energy/caffine drink but it really helped me get a boost without feeling gittery. I couldnt tolerate my coffee but it worked great.

I am right at two weeks now. My hunger returned but it is manageable, I can drink plently of Water and getting the protien in is not a problem now.

Enjoy recovery and get some crystal light energy to give you the little boost you need to feel more energetic.

I'm 4 days post op lap band but I had a hitial hernia fixed too. I think that is bothering me the most. I'm having a hard time getting my Protein and I know I'm not getting close to 64oz. My most concern is I haven't had a BM yet? Should I really be worried?

I'm 3 weeks out from my hernia + band surgery. I didn't have my first BM until day 5 & my doc said this was too long. Turns out what I thought was gas pains was Constipation. There won't be much but you should have one.

I was banded on 5 days ago and just had a bm. Today I called my doctor and they suggested milk of magnesium ( I hate it!) so I went for a walk . I walked maybe 30 minutes I drank quite a bit of Water as well.. And what do you know I had a bm thank goodness!! Because I was beyond worried. So maybe a walk will work for u as well

I had my surgery on the 18th too and I just started taking Tylenol (children s) today. I am on liquids only too and struggling to get it all in I don't feel hungry. Haven't had a bm yet but really I don't have much in my tummy however I am going to take the milk of magnesia tonight at bed so maybe I will go tomorrow., maybe that is the growling in my stomach. I think this is different for all of us. Age, amount of weight and so on seem to play a huge factor in this! Good luck!

I was banded on the 15th and stayed overnight in hospital then at 9am discharged and 10am I had job interview then started day after that. I feel great too except where my port is. Unhappy that I have to miss out on 4 weeks of netball but hoping to start aqua aerobics this week some time. I am easily drinking fluids of all sorts and lost around 4-5 kg. looking forward to the future!!

I'm only on Clear Liquids til day 7. I had Jello tonight for the 1st time. I took Miralax earlier now my stomach is cramping and I'm scared the jello is not going to stay down. I wish I felt better but the pain in my shoulders is really getting to me. I walked this evening for about 30 min. Hopefully something will give pretty soon.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
