Today I had mu first fill. Everything went well. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I am very pleased with my doctor. The bad thing that came up is that I am not exercising. That has to change today. My treadmill is in my bedroom and I am going to get on it.

Glad to hear your first fill went well. I have my first fill Monday and I am nervous. I have heard that my doctor is really good also because everyone I talk to there says it will only fill like a little prick. Still I am nervous. I have been exercising but not as much as I should because I have serious feet problems but I to am going to start doing better. Good luck to you....

my first fill is march 22. I am going back to mexico where i got my lap band to have it done by my docs ortiz and martinez. i'm not nervous about the procedure. after having a couple of kids and going through labor and delivery there is NO pain I can't tolerate. what i am anxious about is getting restriction. as it stands right now I have been "dieting" without the assistance of the band since mid january. I've lost 25 pounds, but its all been the old fashion white knuckle dieting I am so clever at. I am really getting tired of self restriction. My hope is this lapband is going to actually help me to restrict. Right now I can eat anything, drink anything, and screw around as much or as little as i would like to. some say it takes several fills to get it right....thats several more pilgramiges to mexico.. and i'm not looking forward to that at all... i hope this first fill helps to give me a kick start to this weight lose. Im tired of doing it alone and this is about the time i start to self sabotage...holding tight till march 22

Guess he had to look for something to criticize you about. First fill, you're early on this but making strides. It will all come together.

Congrats on the first fill. Are you feeling any restriction? My first fill is on March 26th. I'm looking forward to it.

I have my first fill on 3/24. I total understand being anxious about it. I've read up on it, but I'm still not sure what to expect. Mine will also be in Mexico. I'm hoping the fill will help. My weightloss has slowed to a stop. I've even gained a couple of lbs. yikes!

Had my first fill yesterday (surgery 2/16) and got 4cc's. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. My doctor has such a great sense of humor and made me feel so good. He is good because within a second he had the port ready to fill. I have to be on liquids (protein shakes) for 48 hrs. So far no hunger in between meals which before the fill I was getting hungry before my next meal. Hoping this next month is a good one. I go back to see him again in April.

Hope everyone getting fills this week have a great experience like I did.... GOOD LUCK

Thanks for all the support. I don't have restriction yet. I am just what I know to do. I have an eleven cc band. My first fill was only 1 cc. I know all doctors do it differently. I didn't gain it overnight and I realize it is going to take a while for me to loose it.

My first fill is on 3-30...I need it now! Have to have a fluoroscopy with the fill...anyone have this? how do the docs determine how many cc's you get...there seems to be great diversity from what I'm reading on this site...

I know every doctor is different on their process but my doctor ask me questions about my eating and how I felt. I told mine I was getting hungry between my meals. I eat every 4 hours and was getting hungry after about 3 hours. I went for my first fill Monday and got 4cc's. Had my surgery on 2/16.

I had most of an omelette and some potatoes for lunch. I feel like I could eat more. Please tell me this will be diminished with a fill!

Fill is gradual. My surgeon believes in doing 1cc per month until restriction. As someone previously mentioned we didn't gain overnight. And to be honest we wouldn't be able to handle being filled 1x to restriction. I've finally got restriction And while it doesn't hurt it's painful when I eat too much. I would t have been able to handle this at one time.

Not sure if you count calories and Protein but what helps me is Lose it program on IPhone. Some people use myfitnesspal and spark people

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
