Judych, thanks so much for your well wishes. My knee surgery is scope to repair 2 tears and micro fracture to build scar tissue where I have no cartiledge. The recovery time is 6 weeks and this is supposed to last a few years before knee replacement is done. When I can exercise again or at least walk without pain and walker, my weight loss should improve.

I wish you had a pool close too. I have one at my house which I can not get in because of knee. Such a waste but I enjoy looking at it. I live 2 blocks from the Atlantic ocean and I never go. Too hard to walk. The Water is warm here in south Florida. My life will change soon I hope. The new me will be an island girl beach babe. Ha.

Thanks again for your kind supportive answers to bandster posts. MelVan

MelVan... these operations are a big thing. the knee is very complex and i found that my surgeries were rather painful. Other people often dont have the same issues with pain that i had though.

Ive had nearly 20 surgeries on both my knees, starting when i was 15 years old. Ive had bones broken, cartilages repaired, pins etc put in... you name it Ive had it done. All those surgeries in my younger days kept my knees going until i was of the age where they were happy to replace the joints . I think Ive had less discomfort with total replacements... but thats just me. lol.

So you have a pool there?? and you live in Florida?? how wonderful. You wont know yourself when your knee is fixed.. remember... when you go to get in that pool, have a swim everyday for me. lol.

Thanks for the encouragement on my participation with this forum. i appreciate that. judy

Was banded on March 20th. My pre-surgery weight was 265 and I now weigh 225. Not many people have noticed that I have lost weight. I think it will be really noticeable in about 20 more pounds. I think I have finally reached the green zone with 6.5 cc in a 10 cc band. Before my last .5 cc fill' date=' I could eat a lot at dinner time. Now, I am unable to eat more than 2 cups of food at the most. In the morning, I can only tolerate a yogurt. I have to eat one spoonful every 5 minutes or I will throw it up. For lunch, Soup is pretty much the only thing that I can eat. I don't have a lot of time to eat lunch because I am a school librarian. I am sure I could eat more if I could eat more slowly. For dinner, I very rarely eat more than 1 1/2 cups of food. Before my last fill, I could eat tortillas and some bread products (crescent roll), but now I cannot eat them or I will throw up. I am still learning what foods I can and cannot eat and the amounts. Sometimes, I am hungry but no more food will go down. Although I am happy that I recently got a kickstart to losing weight, I do not like to eat anymore. It is a pain in the butt and a huge chore to find stuff that I can tolerate. Anyone else hate eating now?[/quote']

I too find eating very stressful, and I don't like it. I have 6 ml in my 10 ml band. I can only do a smoothie in the morning, something very small for lunch and 1 cup max for dinner. No breads really. Sandwich thins do "ok". I'm getting used to it, and I wouldn't trade this for the 54 lbs I've lost, but eating is no longer enjoyable. I'm envious of my husband who sits there and "mmm-mmm-mmm's" his food. Oh well.

i'm struggling....help! I only have 5.8cc's and the dr keeps taking a tee tiny bit out and then giving me a little bit more because i gurgle all the time. My weight loss has halted in fact i gained 2lbs last time i went :( Do yall think I should start the preop diet to trick my body, get everything removed and start over, advice? It's only been 7 months. I had a barium swallow and i have slight esophageal dilation but not enough for the dr to be worried. i will go today to have a little more removed because of that. HELP!

Hi Everyone, it has been 8 months for us March Bandsters. How is everyone doing?

I am now down 40 pounds I struggled here and there but my last fill has helped me to eat less. I have to be very careful what I eat and to be sure to chew food thoroughly or else it leads to a stuck episode and that is not pretty.

I have a question for you all. Is anyone experiencing a burping issue, I seem to burp all the time now and sometimes I get this feeling of air bubbles escaping up my esophagus? Just wondering if I'm weird or not???

I would love to hear from you all and know how you are doing. :D

Since my last fill in September I have been having the same occurrence of burping, only happens when I eat. I read somewhere it may mean we have too much restriction. I'm trying to roll with it, I have 25 more pounds that I would like to lose.

I had my iBand surgery in March and I am down 75 lbs. Since my last fill in October i also do the burping and if I eat too much, I start to hiccup. I had a mother of one of my daughter's friends who didn't even recognize me the other day. My daughter, who does not give compliments freely, said to me "mom, she probably didn't recognize you because you have lost a lot of weight since she saw you last." She doesn't realize how much that one sentence meant to me...

Thank you for your responses to my burping issue, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with this issue, I also get the hiccups too. If it is because of restriction I will live with it, the end result is worth it. I am a little jealous of your great weight loses but at the same time I am happy to be down the 40 pounds I have lost so far. The holidays will pose a little bit of a challenge but I think I am up to the challenge.

Keep up the good work, and lets keep in touch from time to time.

You are welcome. I feel the same way about my burping and hiccupping. If it is due to restriction then I am going to tolerate it too. And as my trainer says "any loss is still a loss". She is partly responsible for my weight loss. She never lets me quit. She knows where I live and she comes and finds me if I try to quit. I work out with her 5 days a week. Just keep up doing what yo are doing and you'll reach your goal.

In 2 weeks its been a year since I've been banded. No fills and 45 pounds down. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. U thought I would be down way more than that. But I guess its good with no fills and all. But I think its time for me to get one. Hopefully it don't open up a new issue for me

I had my surgery in 2005 but I have been on a "band vacation" for 2 years. In case you dont know what that means, it is when they completely loosen your band so that you stomach can heal and get a rest. I had my first fill in 2 years on March 5 so I am counting that as my surgery date because I am starting over. I am going to follow every rule this time. I did not follow all the rules the first time and that is why i was not successful. I would break some of the rules and think "this wont make that big of a difference". But this time is going to be different. I have a 2 year old daughter. She wants to go outside all the time and I am too lazy and out of shape to take her. All I want to do is sit on the couch. And that makes me sad..

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
