Well Im day 5 of the liquid diet I'm only allowed 1 meal at dinner time which is basically just a lean meat and veggie... let me tell you I can't wait to get home and cook dinner...LOL! I was told this morning to help with the cravings I can have SF Jello and Popsicles but only when I REALLY need it. 7 more days to go... I'm excited I've lost 6lbs on the liquid diet and I'm really looking forward to losing more weight :)

Hi Jenn -

There's another woman getting surgery the same day as me, and he Dr did not make her go on a pre-op diet either... I think it just depends on surgical protocol... also, what about patients that go out of country? I always wondered if they had to go on pre op diet before flying to Mexico....

Good luck to you on your journey!

LIke you,, im wondering about pre op diets. Ive been having about two glasses of red wine a night on average, some nights ive had more. one of the traps id gotten into, it helped me to forget the huge mountain that i had to climb regarding my health and my weight..lol. not funny really though.

im wondering now though about the size of my liver. does anyone know?? can they tell if the liver is enlarged at all by external examination? judych

Well got my band on Thursday the 16th. Been feeling ok had more pain those couple days after surgery. Been trying to keep the liquids going and Protein Shakes along with limited little goodies like fat free and sugar free stuff, no solids and no mushy yet. Its been getting hard i have been getting real hungry and trying to keep that under some control. Wish i could just eat something. I have lost weight but god dam this sucks.

I was banded on the 17th and still on liquids including Protein shakes, fat free popsicles, Jello, etc. Getting kind of tired of it, but have to do it until March 1 when I have my first post-op appt and nutrition class, then I get mushy stuff. That day can't come too soon. Only one week of that then start on baby bites of real food. I've been going for walks or doing some chore around the house when I have that hunger moment, anything to keep busy.

Big challenge tonight is my son is down visiting for the day (doesn't know about the lapband surgery, just the hiatel hernia part) and my husband and him want to go out to eat. His first suggestion - Marie Callendars - If I could have come through the phone and slapped him I would have! But I did tell him that was really cruel. We we are going to Islands - I guess I'll just sip some sugar free tea while they eat - sucks!!! I guess I could stay home, but that sucks too. I need to get out!

Trying to look at this part of life as just temporary, and the next few weeks as transitional. It's all worth it.

Thanks, Judy. I know I will be soooo nervous. But I agree with other posters, that this forum has been such an inspiration and help to me. I am so thankful that everyone has been posting before AND after. It really helps to chat about the whole experience. pre and post banding. I appreciate you all so very much. wub.png

yeah it does suck till you can eat "real" food i was getting the same way at about day 5 just hungry all the time and those shakes just did not cut it for long. At about day 6 I started mushy types food and it did help a lot. Tomorrow is my 2 week and i am trying to eat mainly Soups and cottage cheese and small chunks of chicken or ham and just chew well it is so awesome to get full on a small bowl of wendy's chili and feel satisfied.

Hello February Bandsters! Congrats to all who have already had surgery and good luck to those that have it coming up. I am getting pretty excited out surgery ... Monday cant come fast enough. Lots of work this weekend to get all of my supplies and to get my house nice and clean so that I don't have too much to worry about while I am home recovering.

I was super duper happy yesterday when the surgeon said I was down 6 lbs after week one of the Pre-Op diet even though I cheated over the weekend and renewed my motivation to do great this weekend. I am shooting for another 6 this week ... unlikely but a girl can dream.

Anyways, that was my little tidbit for the day!! :)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
