I can't believe the day is almost over. I check in tomorrow morning at 5:30 (yuck) with almost a 2 hour drive to get there (double yuck), but I haven't even had time to "stress" about it because I have been so busy today. I am not the slightest bit nervous, just super excited.

Glad to hear everyone banded is doing well and best of luck to all of those coming up!

hi february bandsters!!! just checking in! this group is so active i have a hard time following the threads...just wanted to say i am 5 days post-op and i am feeling great:) i am hoping all those already banded are finding peace in recovery and wishing all those soon to be banded well wishes!

I enjoy reading your posts...thanks for your positive report of how you are feeling post op. I am hopeful I will perhaps have similar good fortune!

Day 11 of the pre op liquid diet is now complete...thank heaven for broth, I have had very strong cravings for salt. One AMAZING observation is that most all of my arthritis pain is absent, which I can only attribute to the very low carbs of the diet. So, no ordeal to give up my NASIDS like I was dreading. Already a huge benefit I never dreamed of!

Only 2 more days before surgery!

Hey guys:)

I was banded today around noon and home by 4:30! It was different than I expected immediately after surgery. I felt the gas like-whoa...I expected uncomfortable but not electric pains. The staff could not have been more awesome and I really recommend If you need anything don't be shy-speak up for yourself and what you need. You can still be funny (right before I went under I was talking about dirty martinis and dreaming about olives). I have been walking around a lot which I still can't believe but it actually feels awesome. I feel better and better every hour. GasX and popcicles are rocking my world right now. Big hugs to this group-I as reading even in the post-op room :) If you have any questions I will totally answer- I know my surgery will be different than others but I'm here if you need me!

Xoxo

Lol Rebecca, I was teaching the staff how to make margaritas as I was drifting off! Glad you're feeling well. I'm five days post off and feeling great! I have moved as much as possible everyday!!! Only struggle is trying to get calories, the thought of food repulses me. Congrats to all my fellow February bandsters!!!

okay so the final hours pre-surgery are here... i feel strangely calm... only feel a bit worried over the fact that i did not prepare myself with as much post-op items as others here have, lol...

I check in at the surgery center at 6am tomorrow morning... they said surgery (if Dr. shows up on time) will be at 7:30am... and I should be out of the center and at home by 10:30ish...

Thank you February Bandsters who post and respond, you've maked life and this new beginning a lot easier to bear, you've helped answer many of my questions (even the ones i never thought of asking), and you've shown a great support for one another and i am blessed to have had you guys in my life these weeks pre-op. I am more then excited to fill you in on my progress post-op, and though this section is for pre-op i hope that we all continue to stay connected....

To all 'losers' thanks for checking in on us newbies and giving us your support and knowledge, i will see you on the otherside soon ;)

Hey Feb bandsters! I was Feb 3rd and I just h ad my 2 week post op appt today.

My doc was very pleased with my progress. Since I started my Pre-op, I was down 23 pounds today. I have also already lost over 19 inches.

TAKE YOUR MEASUREMENTS IF YOU HAVEN'T YET!!!!!

Week one was the roughest and by day 5, I was much better.

My only issue has been an allergic reaction to the steri strips. I have red welts that itch like crazy on every incision site.

My clothes are already looser and I started my soft food phase. I have been putting turkey meatballs in the food processor with sauce over polenta and eggplant and making a small Italian stack. All soft and yum!

Also, FF refried Beans with lowfat cheese and a dollop of greek yogurt makes a great dinner.< /p>

A poached egg with 2 tablespoons of organic cottage cheese for Breakfast has been divine.

Get your liquids in and start moving!!

I wish the recent bandsters the best of luck and the next round of Feb bandsters a safe and easy surgery and a painless recovery!!

:)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
