December Bandsters!! How Ya Feeling??

Recommended Posts

we did it. we have made a commitment to a better life to start out our new year with.. I was banded Dec 20. I started out at 214 preop and then the day of surgery I was 201. Today I am 195-196. I have GOT to get rid of the scales and only weigh weekly. They torture me. I have had no pain.. No nausea. No vomiting. And better yet.. I have made it through the holidays. First fill is not until Feb 2.. Going to start an exercise routine of walking in Jan hoping to help increase my weigh loss without the fill. How are yall doing??? We have to stick together and support each other. I am here for ya.. If you need to ask me anything and I am not on here, you can send email to hlorettawilliams@gmail.com!

I feel great too! 10 days post op I walked 2 miles today and have lost 21 lbs. I'm slowly but surely changing my life and behavior and I'm really looking forward to this journey.

I am so grateful for the support from this forum and from my blog followers, it feels so good to have people out there who know exactly what I'm going through.

I go to the nutritionist tomorrow for my first post op appt. Can't wait to share my success with her!

I was doing great til yesterday. Down 28 pounds (my scale) 23 doctor's scale. Starting to have a lot of pressure in my head (left side) the pain goes up each time my chest tightens. I think my band is really really tight - I'm rarely hungry. Not sure what the pain/pressure in my head is about though. Even still, I'm happy I went through w/ the surgery.

Hi. I was banded Dec. 13. It kinda hurts to swallow sometimes. Is that normal? This is my second band and the first incision hurts pretty bad because he had to scrape away some scar tissue. Weight loss is coming, and I agree, time to get rid of the dumb scale. I will weigh and don't understand when it doesn't move when I didn't cause anything to not have it move. Need more exercise, but this incision hurts pretty bad still.

Hi Puppypaw57 - I was banded Dec 14, 2011 and it hurt for me to swallow many days after the surgery. It's better now. Since I've been on "mushy" my scale hasn't moved like it was doing during liquids and my calories are still pretty low (between 500-800) but I guess we'll eventually get there :)

I was banded Dec 13th. I am down 25 lbs. I have been feeling great but had a set back this week, I came down with the stomach flu. It was pretty scary. I vomited 4 or 5 times and was afraid that my band slipped. I called my Dr and was told what to look for once I was able to eat again. I am pretty sure I am ok. I was able to eat tomatoe Soup with crushed crackers in it and everything went down and stayed down. I am thinking about putting my scale away also....I think I will drive myself crazy if I don't.

I was banded on Dec. 19 and I'm down 27 pounds, which includes the Pre- op. I'm terrified of the scale slowing down. I'm so happy to see everyone else's good results so far too! I only have pangs of hunger sometimes, but I have also caught myself standing in front of the open refrigerator for no reason at all. I didn't realize that was one of my former behaviors with food. Otherwise feeling good. SO glad I did this over the holidays so I had time to fully recover! Look forward to hearing from everyone! Happy New Year!

I am in lapband hell ...my appetite is back with a vengeance. It doesnt help that my family is gathering today and my mom made mac n cheese, collard greens, baked chicken wings, rice w/shrimp, and ham. These are all my favorities. I feel depressed....I am sick of liquids ...i will make it through...This is sooo hard....I need some restriction in my life :)

I was banded on the 15th of December.Like some of the other peeps I'm in "bandster hell" too. But I would do this all over again in a heart beat. Had no gas pain, no nausea or vomitting, just soreness around the port.

I have actually gained a couple pounds since I started mushie foods. My Dr said that this was normal and to exercise, exercise, exercise. So I guess it's me, my treadmill and my willpower until my first fill in 3 weeks.

I'm happy everyone is doing so well!! biggrin.gif

Karrie88 I was banded yesterday 12/29 and have not experienced any negative effects either. I am hungry, but broth and such is helping. Good luck to all bandsters, especially December bandsters.

I was banded on Dec. 15th and I have already lost 16 lbs. I have no issues other than some annoying pain on my side but I think it is more gas. Loving being able to get into clothes that I have not worn in months already. I am not hungry and I have to force myself to eat my three meals plus drink liquids. Looking forward to my first fill on Feb. 1st.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
