Absolutely! I just had Panda Express today (if you call that Chinese!). I'm 2 yrs out and I eat whatever I want - just in very small quantities. You'll probably be able to eat Chinese again - don't know if you're one of the people who can eat rice/noodles tho. Most people can't. I can eat about 4 bites of rice and a few bites of chicken. It's worth it to me tho!

Good luck!

Every week! I choose chicken or fish with vegetables plus some rice. My husband and I usually share a main and rice with me eating about 1/4 and him polishing off the rest.

I do notice that it is obviously salty as I can be very thirsty afterwards - so never the night before my weigh in.

It depends on what kind of "Chinese" food you are asking about. Chinese food is different in every country. The Chinese food in Korea is totally different then the Chinese food in China. Even in China there is the foreigners Chinese food and the Chinese peoples Chinese food.

Over all speaking most people can eat rice and noodles at some point post op. Day 4 pre op wouldnt be a big deal to cave but this is a long journey you should try to stick to the plan now. Rice over all should be avoided because it can expand in your stomach once you have eaten it which is not good.

Other things in the Chinese food like veggies ( easy) meats ( some easy some hard) and sauces (easy) are different for everyone

I have Chinese food almost once a week. I just dont have it a couple days before weigh in. The sodium usually makes the scale go up.

I'm 6 weeks post op and ate a bit of lo-mein, but a really small portion and I was full. I find I can eat food, smaller portions and be satisfied. Sometimes I eat a small portion and I'm satisfied all day. Just be careful about what you get and how much you intake. All about calorie/carb intake.

I've had Panda Express too. I love the chicken dish that has pineapples and red peppers but I always forget the name. Anyway, we order a 3 entre dinner and all 3 of us eat my (my hubby, daughter and I). We all had lapbad last year. So we eat cheap now. Cannot eat the rice or noodles anymore but will sometimes order them because I like the taste of the celery in the noodles.

You guys made my day! I hope I can tolerate it. We used to have Chinese food once a week. And yes I do know the difference Chinese foods. I spent 4 years there. Korean food is not Chinese, it's Korean. It's just as different as Japanese food and Thai food.

I know the Italian food has to go. Real sad about that, but my health is more important. Well surgery tomorrow!

If I order chinese I try to get something off the steamed portion of the menu with garlic sauce and brown rice. I never finish it or even come close. If, on occasion, I do eat anything bad from there it's just a few bites off of someone elses food or sometimes I'll share a dinner with someone when I decide to splurge. I don't feel deprived or left out when my friends or family are ordering out or going out to dinner. I don't dread these moments like alot of people do, I live a normal life but just try to make the best choices I can when it comes to food. Everything in moderation, if you want to eat some of your favorite things from the chinese place on occasion, in my opinion, it's ok. Live and enjoy, just don't over indulge.

why does Italian food have to go? i had chicken al fredo last night, homemade, lowfat and had not one issue. you just have to be careful about what you eat and chew your food up really well.

I dont think that any food really has to go of course if you can't physically eat it then you can't eat it. Otherwise eat what you want because the band should make you not able to eat the amounts that you want!

For those of us who are diabetics it is usually best to stay away from all high carb foods. This would include Pasta, rice, bread and potatoes.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
