Hurricane Irene!! What will I eat???

I'm on the coast of Virginia!! Any suggestions on what to eat if the power goes out for a few days? It will be so easy to eat the processed foods like snacks and chips. Of course we have a grill to cook our meats as they thaw out. Ideas would be greatly appreciated!

It's funny how even here its about the hurricane. Enough about the hurricane. Plus lets not make a big deal about food. So you don't eat for a few days. Maybe will loose some weight? Possibly? Why ge

I was thinking the same as MelissaNY, Protein Shakes (I use Water with mine if I don't use premade ones), nuts, canned Beans, canned Soup (ones that might be palatable cold) what about beef raviolis? That is if you can handle that "pasta part", canned chicken, tuna, meats, Peanut Butter, almond butter, veggies...use your imagination and be safe!! I'll be thinking of you!

This is Melinda from Florida...Hey, no problem - eat the freezer - all that stuff cooked on the grill would be great - also, there is many vegies (squash and Zucchini) that are great grilled. Tomatoes and carrots don't need to be kept cold. Of course all the canned stuff that was already mentioned. ;) I am not big on the Protein Shakes especially with Water (yuk). Make sure you have lots of water ! We will be thinking about you and please be safe.

I'm in NY and I got a hurricane preparedness letter at my door today. Really? I'm sure it will fizzle out by the time it gets that far north. Who knows though in 3 days or so I could just have to eat my words. LOL

I'm hoping it fizzles out too! We are right on the water on Long Island. Up untl today I was thinking it wasn't going to be a big deal but now I guess I should do some preparation. Stay safe everyone! :D

Be careful. Last I heard it will be heading north as a cat.2- even with all the land it's going over it is anticipated to stay strong. Be prepared and stay safe!

Protein bars may be a good option, along with shakes already mentioned. That's what I was planning if it hit Florida. We are very luck this time around. Can't wait for hurricane season to end!

Which part of VA are you from?? I am from Emporia and I work in Va Beach and Suffolk a lot? Where are you from and when were you banded?

Im in new jersey and someone told me the whole state has to evacuate

Thanks everyone for your rapid response! I totally forgot about nuts and canned chicken! I will definitely get to the store to pick up your suggestions, if there is anything left! My friends and family are saying that the stores are crazy. I haven't left work yet.

healthy and happy....I'm on the Peninsula in a pretty low lying area. I have lived here all of my life and I absolutely hate these storms. And I'm pretty freaked out already after Tuesday's earthquake! I was banded last August!! Tuesday was my one year anniversary!!!

Anything canned, you can probably have, and some in moderation, sugar free anything like puddings Jello. Pasta, Sauce, If you can eat Pasta.

Grill anything that Defrosts, and if some stay frozen longer then others, Grill them another day.

Think Survival mode... Just don't overdue it.

It was even felt in Michigan, (NOT BY US THOUGH) So we will be thinking of you.

You need anything ? Get on here and ask away. Don't become shy now ! Not the time for it.

Take Care, Shirley.

Where do you live Tracie? I'm in Islip. If the power goes out, I'm not sure what I'll eat because most things I eat I cook. I just went to costco and got 2 cases of Protein shakes, so I guess I'll just drink those. Guess I should put them in the fridge just in case. Though if it hits saturday night, I'll be at work.

im in NY, in orange county, about 35-45 mins from the City. We felt the earthquake up here too. I hope everybody is safe durring this storm, its kinda scarry, im safe and far from the city but there are millions and millions of people , NJ, NY, the whole coast =(

i have freinds in VA, and Hilton head and they said they will ride it out,

Survival mode it right, and us banders have to be really smart !!! hope all will be ok
