  1. I had a severe kidney infection once, it was awful. I have never been so sick and my back was killing me. The infection was caused by a kidney stone blocking my kidney from fully emptying. Had surgery to disolve the stone. I feel your pain! Get better soon!
  2. I don't think "throwing the scale away" works for everyone, maybe it works for you. For me once a week works. I tried weighing in everyday and the natural flucuations drove me crazy. I am accountable to myself for what I put in my mouth and the exersise I do, I don't need to weigh in everyday to feel accountable. However, I do need to use the scale as a general guideline on my progress. Everyone is different, it's a matter of what works for you.

    Emotional!

    It's tough at the beginning, hang in there! I would call your surgeons office about moving on to full liquids. Every doc. is different but I think 1 week on clear liquids is pretty typical. I did 1 week full liquids, 1 week mushies then solids. Congrats on your surgery!

    Personal trainer or not?

    I love love love my trainer. She is motivating and fun. However it is an expense, I pay 25 dollars per 1/2 hour session. It's gone up, but I am locked in to that price with a contract. Your motivation is to eliminate excess skin from what you said. Well... if that's your reason I would save your money for sure. In my opinion, exercise does not reduce excesss skin. Once the skin has lost it's elasticity, it's gone. Your skin may bounce back. It depends on genetics, pregnancy, weight gain and loss et... Plastic surgery once you've kept the weight off a while is obviously a solution, but expensive. My plastic surgeon got a machine called the venus freeze- but it's actually a warm treatment. It tightens loose skin. Not as dramatic as surgery, but his before and after pics look pretty good. You may want to google venus freeze and see if there is one in your area. All that being said, weight training has tons of benefits. If you can't afford a trainer for the long term, maybe save up to have one for some limited number of sessions. Tell them your goal is to learn moves and a routine that you can continue on your own. Good luck!

    Caffeine

    I too am an everyday coffee drinker, had it the day after surgery. No problems. It's my understanding carbonation can stretch the pouch (obviously you don't want that), never heard it could cause a slip. I am not saying it's not true, just never heard it before.
  6. Had Chinese over the weekend, ate stuff I shouldn't have but got a nice fortune. It said "We are what we repeatedly do, excellence then is not an act, but a habit." It reminds me of something Dr. Phil says a lot, the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. When we change our habits, we change our past behavior, and those hopefully better choices, become the predictor of future behavior. It is easy to see how this relates to consistanly making good food and exercise choices. Have a great rest of the weekend!

    I had a de-fill today

    Going slow is hard, but not a bad idea at all. I tended to rush things, and ended up overfilled and had to go back. My advice is to not wait if you are too tight. I did that, thinking it may be swelling and the situation would improve on it's own. Well it never did, except after my very first fill. I suffered needlessly. Keep us posted on your journey!

    I had a de-fill today

    I didn't have any fluid at the time of surgery, and swelling didn't affect me much. However, I had several unfills later on postop- from fills making me too tight. What a relief they were! Hope you are right on track now! Congrats on your surgery.

    Would i know if I slipped?

    My surgeon told me if there was a slip you suddenly can't keep anything down- even water. Are fluids staying down? I hope so. Feel better soon!

    Happy But Disappointed

    Sounds like you are doing great! If you are not experiencing hunger I think it was the right thing not to get a fill. However, for the future, don't be afraid to advocate for yourself. Some doctors don't want to give fills when a patient has lost weight, that doesn't make sense to me. I believe the decision to fill or not should be based on what the patient is eating, and hunger levels. You might want to keep notes for a few days before your appt. on your eating and hunger levels. Congrats on your weight loss, it's terrific!
  13. I hope you feel better soon! I believe juice to be a bad idea in general. It is loaded with sugar, natural sugar but still sugar. Some brands add sugar to it as well. I know you are in the er with limited choices but in general, you are much better off eating a piece of fruit rather than drinking juice. You get fiber et... Again, hope you feel better soon.

    Hair Loss

    Glad it is growing back! I freaked out too, when I started loosing hair. I went to a dermatologist and he said it was the body going into kind of a shock from rapid weight loss. Like you, it started several months after surgery and lasted several months. I was lucky to start out with a thick head of hair. I didn't take bioten.

    Another Fill...

    My doc. says 24 hours liquids, then back to solids. Yes, different instructions from different doctors is confusing. There can be a big difference in post op instructions too. I was on liquids one week, mushies the next, then solid food. I have heard of others on liquids and mushies much longer.

    Post op medication

    I had percecet. Worked great. Only needed it for the first 2-3 days, then I was fine.
  17. I looked into it. The option my surgeon gave me was to put in a low profile port, that way it wouldn't stick out. The cost was 4,000 dollars. I decided to live with it.
  18. Hi all, Just wondering peoples thoughts on how often you should weigh yourself. Recently, I have been getting on the scale everyday and the flucuations were discouraging so I have decided to get on the scale just once a week and record it. That is what I did postop until I reached goal. I then started weighing myself just about every day. For a year, things were great. After that- I think it started with the holidays, I watched the scale go up and up. Gained back half the weight I lost. I feel like I finally have my act together. I have had a good couple weeks. I guess everyone needs to do what's best for them, but for me I think I will stick to once a week weigh ins. Thanks for reading.
  19. I tried ww in the past. Wasn't really ready and didn't loose much weight. However, I think their eating plan is very sensible and the meetings motivational. Also, there is something about that weekly weigh in that is motivating. I would give it a try if you think it might help.

    Dizzy spells

    I agree, could be blood sugar. I have diebeties and was on medication when banded. After 4 months or so I started to get dizzy. I thought it was my blood pressure so I poppped by my dr. and asked a nurse to take my bp, it was fine. I hadn't been good about checking my blood sugar. I ended up passing out in the middle of the night while getting drink of water. My blood sugar was way low. My doc. took me off of the medication and I've been fine since. I would suspect it could be either low bp or low blood sugar. Do the shakes your drinking have carbs, or are they low carb.? If they are low carb you might want to switch and see if that helps. Also, you might want to keep an eye on your bp. Hope you feel better soon!

    Eating at restaurants

    Ruby Tuesdays was mentioned. That's one of my go to resturants. I always get the creol catch. Its about 350 calories. Grilled white fish with spices and zucchini and spaggetti squash for sides. Yum! I also like to go to a local chinese resturant that has a "diet" menu. I get the steamed shirmp and veggies with garlic sauce on the side. Very satisfying. Basically, sticking to a lean protein and veggie is the way to go I think. Some might include a healthy carb, wich I will at lunch, but I don't eat carbs for dinner.

    Harder than I Expected...

    I used Milk of Magnesia and it worked great. The pain pills can cause some constipation. Hang in there, you will feel better soon I'm sure. Congrats on your surgery!
  24. I was thrilled when I was able to go off my meds. Not only for diebeties but also, blood pressure and high cholesterol. Yes, I had it all. It was the best dr. appt. ever! Congrats to you, and so soon into your journey. Keep up the good work!

    now what

    A protein bar could work well for lunch. One high in protein- I get Atkins meal bars, I have found all are good. Of course you probably don't want to do that everyday- but to have them on hand when you don't have time to pack a lunch might be good. Keep up the good work.
