I am so embarrassed to ask for help with this but I am going to anyway, cause I need help. I am 19 days post op. I cannot have a BM to save my life. I have tried Benefiber, Milk Of Magnesia,Dulcolax, Fleet Enema, Suppositories, Eating Baby food Prunes and I can't go. I had the urge one or two times and had to manually pull some out of my behind. I have even gained 3 lbs, because I can't go. It's all building up. there any suggestions before I get the Dr to have to get it out?

Is this normal? Has or is anyone having this problem? What was your saving grace? The Dr said I did all that he would suggest.

Help!!!!

Broccoli is the thing that always get us going. If you are doing mushies, you can cook it until tender and use a hand blender or small food processor to blend it up fine, even add some chicken stock to get it to a mashed consistency. Lots of Water, too!

eww...not to embarrass or anything (I know it has been done) but I'd rather stay constipated. My doctor states its normal that you may only go once a week if that, less food in, less food out. If you are sticking to mostly Protein rich foods, you will be slow to go. You may need to throw in a veggie. I have difficulty eating them but can whip or blend them or you can make them into a warm veggie smoothie like a Soup to drink on. Add a spoon of the tasteless Fiber stuff and if you do this once a day, you're bound to go. Fiber gummies did it for me, now I don't worry as much. I may go once a week and still lose weight.

First you have to unblock yourself from below before the oral remedies can start to work from the top . So go to CVS or Walgreen and purchase Ducolax Suppository you may need two to work. they are a simulant that will get the lower colon to spasm to push the hard stool out then, buy Miralax the name brand not generic and take it up to 3 times a day. Please stay away from fibercon or Psyllium type of products!.... dont want to be nasty but it will turn your poo into a Gummy like stool and it wil be hell trying to pass. Try these steps and I promise you will sing my praise!!!

By some fruit juices that make you go, like apple, or what ever. Your Dr. can prescribe something like Metamucil to keep you going. That or the fruit juice, or stool softeners.

I used Miralax (generic version) pre-surgery to stay regular. You can also buy the glycerin suppositories that will get you going no matter what.

My doc said that the first line of defense is to increase your Water intake. How much water are you drinking? I'd bet it's not enough. Consume 80 ounces of water tomorrow and see what happens. Those fiber and stool products DO NOT work properly unless you increase your water intake.

Have the same problem, I am about almost 3 weeks post op. I used miralax. It produces a BM by the next day if you take the suggested amount. I took some last night, I just dont like only going 1 a week. I also have to be more dilagent with my Water consumption. I haven't been drinking enough..

My focus will be on drinking more and using my miralax as needed every 3 days/as needed.

Good luck to you!

Sherry

+1!

Water intake is often overlooked. Try to drink at least 64oz of water and take 2 of the fiber tablets daily.

Here's a good article about it from WebMD: http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/water-a-fluid-way-to-manage-constipation

Good luck!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
