I want to get pregnant before one year of being banded.

Recommended Posts

I am 29 and I have wanted to have a baby for many years, I have had a few successes at getting pregnant but because of my weight they ended in miscarriages. My new OB/GYn says that she can prevent those miscarriages this time but its best for me and baby to lose weight. So i have set a goal to lose 100lbs before december and i have 52lbs more to go, hopefully i can lose more than a 100lbs, What are thoughts getting pregnant a few months before the 1year the band doctor says i should weight?

I am also 29 and wanting a baby, but my dr said I needed to wait at least 18 MONTHS before I even start trying. I don't really want to wait that long, but I definitely don't want to be pregnant at my current size for health reasons. My dr did tell me about patients who get pregnant a few months after surgery accidentally and they were ok but they really suggest against it. I don't think it would be a big deal to do it before the one year mark, but personally I would want to be able to focus on myself a little longer to make sure I can be the person I need/want to be when the child comes along, you know? Either way, good luck to you. :)

I got pregnant 4 months after being banded. Me and baby are just fine. I was able to get all my baby weight off and get back to losing weight in no time. My baby was actually born one day before my band anniversary.

I had a very intentional pregnancy (with IVF) 7 months after having lapband. This was my one shot and I took it. Do whatever is going to make you happy. My pregnancy is going great so far

I had a friend get pregnant 6 weeks after being banded, and was fine.

The reason they suggest waiting (and my Dr also recommended 18 months of waiting) is because of several things. Some want you to wait because you're still healing. others don't want you to aggrevate the band with vomiting (morning sickness). The main reason I've been told is because the first 12-18 months you are losing rapidly and it might be unhealthy for you to be pregnant while losing that quickly.

I waited a year before having my IUD out, and we are TTC now. I feel my weight loss has slowed to a safer level.

Good luck on your weight loss journey and your TTC journey. I was banded on 2.22.10 and got pregnant in October of '10. I was about 8 months post op and had lost 75lbs. My surgon knew ahead of time that one of my main reasons for this sugery was so that I could have a healthy pregnancy. When my husband I felt we were ready, I asked for my surgons "blessing", she told me that she was very proud of my success and my loss, as well as my health conditions improving, and gave me the OK to get pregnant.

So here I am starting my 3rd trimester of pregnancy :) I am due at the end of July and baby and I are doing great :)

My doctor says to wait 1 year. You are only 29 believe it or not you have the time to wait.

We hubby and I tried to get pregnant ( W/ a second baby ) for about 6 months and nothing happened... Finally i decided to go back to school and work on getting lap band. I am being banded June 30th.. ( 10 days! ) I want to lose about 100 pounds before getting pregnant again. I remember how heart breaking it was to try to get pregnant and each test coming up negative. It seemed as if all of my friends were getting pregnant and i wasn't. At times i felt jealous of them. I remember getting on Facebook and crying when i would see my friends status' saying they were pregnant... : (

Hopefully within a year we can start trying!

My doctor told me clearly that a year has nothing to do with it. If I get pregnant and my OB/GYN says I'm healthy enough to have a healthy baby and everything is good then I have his blessing. He is aware that it is not so easy for some of us to get pregnant and when the blessing comes, it comes. If we need to unfill, we'll unfill and start again after the baby is born.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
