Hello!

thanks for responding! It feels a little more real to me to think that someone right around here has had great results with the lap band. I am battling with doubts and fears and when I read your post - it really helped me feel better. Do you exercise a lot now? Has it been hard keeping the weight off? I just have so many questions!! lol

thanks again!

God bless,

Jaleena

Nice to know others from this area and Dr. Pender/Chapmans office, I have loved my lap band, I walk alot during the warmer time and ride bikes, but have really not done much exercise since it has been so cold and things are really still going great. It is definetly something that you have to work at. I don't eat much bread or Pasta, sometimes wish that I could have a sandwich, but that sandwich would never taste as good as I feel. So I mainly stay with Protein, veggies Soups milk and yogurt. Really the same diet that they gave me in the beginning. So really works great for me.

I go to weight watchers now to keep me on track and honest (not that I have ever told anyone their I had lapband). Greenville is just not convenient for me to go to to make sure that I stay on track, I haven't been to their office for almost a year, but do have an appt this month. I need accountability to someone so for me weight watchers is great. I know as long as I go and weigh every week that I will be ok and I will know if any of my weight begins to slip back on. I have been to my goal weight with weight watchers since September 2010 so no longer have to pay and I have continued to lose weight during the holidays, I am now 10lb below my weight watchers goal weight.

Sometimes I could eat anything that I want and other times I feel as though I have alot of restriction, for me not knowing how my body is really keeps me on track and faithful to my lapband. I guess that I am just more swelled up at sometime than other times. But works great for me.

I wish you all the best, it is a personal decision for everyone but the best one that I could of made!

Third day on liquids and not doing too bad. I have been drinking lots and lots of Water, and keeping busy. There have been a few times when I have wanted to gnaw my own arm off, but other than that it is going well. I just need to find more liquid options. Hope all is going well with your progress.

Hi Stacey,

I go to the same doctors office. When I went to the seminar they gave me a appointment that night. My first visit was the 7th of this month. I really like the people in the office they are really friendly. Which dr do you have? I have doctor Vollinger he is really nice and I felt comfortable with him because he has been overweight and knows what we are dealing with. Renee is really helpful and she had wls and she is really understanding, now trying to get in touch with her is a taskbut she has so many patients that she deals with. I go in for my nutrition class along with some other things on the second. I would like to keep in contact since we go to the same doctors office, if you'd like just let me know. Let me know where you are now.

Hi I live in Wallace. I am having my surgery with Dr. Paul Enoch in Cary. I started out in Wilmington but I did not like the Doctor there. Dr. Enoch has been totally wonderful. My journey started Sept 29 I had all of my evaluations done by Dec 4. I was side tracked by gallbladder surgery which I had done Jan 14 I am recovering from that, by the way Dr. Enoch did that as well. My surgery date for lapband is Feb 18.

I was banded 01/14/2011 at Rex Hospital by Dr. Scott Bovard with Bovard Bariactrics in Raleigh. On tomorrow I will be 14 day post op. I feeling better every day. I started the process on 10/25/2010 by attending a face to face chat with the doctor, then attended two support groups (clients of the doctor), corresponded with several members of the group personally, pre op test/psy eval on 11/28/11 (all coordinated by the medical office and at the same location), meeting w/ medicall staff at Rex on 12/28 and the doctor on 12/28, banded 01/14.

Hi, I am from Clayton nc and I went to Dr Peter Henderson, he works at Rex Hospital also and will held surgery there. Have you hear from him? I was searching about lapband for a while but did not have luck for referrals. This Dr. seems to know what he is doing but I woudl like referrals from him. I went to seminar and Phycologist appt. My Dietittician appt will be next week and I am also planning to attend a weight loss forum at Rex. I was very confused about what surgery to get, finally I decided lapband because it is the only surgery my husband is agreed with for being less risky. Please keep me posted about your success? have you lose weight since the date of your surgery? Are you hungry? My problem is I eat too much and I hungry all the time, I am not eating too much sweets or Pasta I just like to eat.......

I hope you can keep in touch, I really need support in this, it is scary but I am so excited I can't wait to change my life and feel normal again.

Thanks

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
