Rabbits and Turtles United New Year Challenge

Recommended Posts

Hey Y'all!

I'll kick in a prize, too. Some scratch tickets or something.

I am going to post along with you - but it will be hard for me to play properly, since I don't have a scale - and, my gym doesn't have one yet, either. I will HAVE to focus on life, since I have NO IDEA of my current weight.

My NSV for this week? 15 minutes on the Evil Eliptical machine before my heart rate got too high to continue. I do treadmill, & bike, too - but the eliptical is the one that kicks my butt - so that's what I call an NSV.

OK, I think I've got it now.

Starting weight - 256

(what I weighed a couple of days ago when this challenge was issued, and I accepted -)

Goal Weight on March 1, 2006 - 244 pounds

= 12 pounds down or 1.5 pounds for almost 8 weeks - (Barely enough to keep me from being disqualified as a bunny, and just enough to avoid qualification to join the turtle club)

Recent GIANT NSV -

In Winter of 2004, I went skiing with my CEO. I was in such bad shape that I had to make up excuses when I could only last two runs. (knees, goggles fogging up, can't see, boots hurt, etc.)

Yesterday, (one year later) I did over 15 runs with him, kept up, and would have loved to continued skiing, except the lift closed! My, what an amazingly beautiful day, and wonderful experience to be able to ski again!

What's more, I looked up the caloric consumption of a day's skiing. Figuring half the time was on the lift and half the time was spent skiing, I still burned 2,200 calories. ;) BURN IT, BABY!!! :banana

See you all on the other side of the scale on March 1, and GOOD LUCK!!!!

I haven't been on much lately, so I'm just getting around to posting. I gained back 2 lbs and am struggling.

Start weight: 240

Goal by March 1: 224

NS Goal by March 1: size 20 jeans fit comfortably (size 22's just started fitting in Dec)

What I need to do:

* Stop overeating

* Get in all my Water every day

* Exercise

And I know if I start with the Exercise, the other two will follow. I just need a good kick in the pants.

On the plus side, I'm being really productive at work AND doing a great job of decluttering the house and preparing for a year of construction and remodeling. So there's other stuff going on. I just need to spend less time online & watching TV so I can focus on the weight loss too.

start: 1/3/06 210 lbs

1/8/06 205 lbs (-5) -- I totally got back on track this week!

NSV- my supervisor hadn't seen me in two weeks (over the holidays) and she said My God, you're getting smaller! I hadn't lost any additional weight between Christmas & New Years, so that really made me feel good and realize that even though you're not losing pounds, you're probably losing inches! That being said, here's NSV #2

NSV 2- I bought a pair of pants just before Christmas and I hadn't worn them until one day last week I wore them to work. They fit looser.

NSV 3- I moved down one BMI category (from severely obese to obese)

I assume checkins will be Mondays as in previous challenges? I'll check in tonight since I weighed in this morning and don't know if I'll have a chance to be on tomorrow.

Start: 240

Now: 236

NSV for the week: I got off my butt and exercised 2x last week. As I had stopped exercising over the holidays, it's great for me to get moving again.

My other NSV unrelated to banding: I made great progress on my decluttering goals AND on one of my goals at work. :banana

I weighed my self recently at home and the scale said 371.5(butt nakid). This is my weight watchers scale so I weighed my self at work and it said I was 375 so I finally made some sort of progress and was happy about that until I ran into a coworker who was told by another co-worker that I had surgery too and she says she had gastric bypass and I told her I have the band. She informed me that she lost 64 lbs in 9 weeks and when I said I have lost 45 in a year she looked shocked like that's all but she has 300-400 to lose I only have 100-150 to lose which one is better. I am still happy for her though and glad she is finally feeling good about herself but she has motivated me to get myself in gear it is just some friendly compitition

NSV:

1-My size 12 jeans are getting loose, noticed this morning - I'm thrilled

2- ab chair 3x this week

3-Better control this week over the chocolate demons.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
