Hey everyone! I'm at a continuing education conference on Isle of Palms, South Carolina....it's heaven. Pure heaven. They "screwed up" my hotel reservation and I ended up with a junior suite instead of just a room (I know, I know, how terrible for me!). This place is bigger than some of the apartments I lived in when I was younger. I have a HUGE porch that over looks the pool, during the day you get glimpses of the ocean between the other buildings but OMG can you hear the waves crashing from here. I'm in love. If I had Connor with me I swear I'd never go home.

AND the guy has called every day and is "anxiously awaiting my return" so we can get a second date in....

Christie, woo hoo!

Happy Birthday Denise!

My new hobby for when the weather turns cold was going to be quilting, but after the trouble I've been having on a simple table runner, we'll see how long it lasts.

Happy B-day Denise! I forgot to reply to you on my BP. It is the same. Sometimes it's fine, but I know I have to get up slowly...then other times I feel sick and dizzy for no reason. Hope you had a great one!!

YAY Christie!

Christie: So life is good? :puke:

Denise: Happy Birthday! Lobster? I am so jealous. I used to teach school on an island in Maine and was able to eat lobster every few days. I traded homemade bread with the fisherman across the street. Nothing like stepping out your front door in the morning to find a 5 gallon bucket full of lobsters.

HB: Stick with it. Each one gets easier. My first quilt was a lap quilt for my new baby...'Round the World' pattern. I can't even tell you how many times I had to take out a seam. The last one I did was a queen sized Double Irish Chain. Didn't have to redo even one seam.

Morning bandsters...

My body is rebelling at the thought of going back to work this morning (still wants to be on vacation)...even though I don't have to leave home to do so. I woke up at 6:30 a.m. with a raging headache that kept me up for most of the last half of the night so I took it off to a hot shower to drown it. Didn't work. Despite that I am going for a walk this morning as soon as there's enough light to safely walk our country roads. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will get rid of the headache...or at least motivate me. I'm having one of those mornings where I don't want to do anything. I know it will get better once I get back into my routine.

Ah well...have a good one y'all!

Melody

I did manage to 'drag' myself out of the house this morning for my walk and told my mother-in-law to keep a brisk pace otherwise I'll just stroll. She's 81 years old and walks so fast she's passing the 24 year old joggers at aerobics. We did 3.5 miles and I managed to do 15 minute miles! Woohoo!

Best of all my headache was gone and I felt energized by the end of the walk. I managed to get quite a bit done today as a result!

Now I think I'll go make a cup of sugar free hot chocolate and splurge with a small shot of whipped cream on top.

Steve does not like oysters....for that matter christie does not like oysters either. I already had the nasty thing in my mouth when someone said "don't chew, swallow it whole" Yeah, umm, yuck, and then yuck later, and well, still yuck. BUT, other than that life is fantastic. I'm sitting here in the dark listening to the waves...it's my new favorite hobby. So relaxing. If I relax any more I'm going to turn into a blob of Jello. I need to marry rich and just spend my life on vacation...it agrees with me.

Not having a good morning. Another headache and I gained *another* 2 lbs. WTH??!! I'm eating 1200 calories a day, logging everything I stick in my mouth (including sugar free breath mints) into Fitday.com, walking at a brisk pace for 1 hr each day and I'm gaining weight????? Argggghhh!

Walked for an hour this morning (4 miles) and then went to aerobics with my mother-in-law. The only thing that made it bearable was to stick my headphones on and work to P!nk's 'Funhouse' album. 'In your face' kind of music...suits my mood this morning.

Arrrgggh! I'm at a professional conference at a talk on childhood obesity and every time she says 'lose weight' she put 'loose weight' in the power point. I must go jab my eyes out now.

Lol--btw you look great

Just back from my cruise--gained a little, but I lost 5lbs three days before I left on purpose to balance it out so that I am really where I started before I left. Back to life and reality and my routine. Will post some pics--I may have not brought the S-e-x-y back in sexy, but I at least brought the S-E!:smile2:

Elfie maybe it is the high Protein diet? Maybe it doesn't suit you. Not everybody responds to every diet the same way.Are you doing low fat as well - if not maybe the calories are higher than you think - or maybe you are still eating too many carbs for a high protein diet. Don't know what else to suggest.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
