Any Kansas City bandsters???????

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I guess I am the first man to reply here. I got my band in May 2007. When they finally got it dialed in, I lost 50 pounds, gained back 20, and have been there ever since. I should lose about 120 more pounds. I picked the name elkhunter because I am far too heavy to drag myself up mountains with a pack and a rifle, but if I can ever get to that point, I WILL go. I am 55, 6 foot one, and- sorry ladies- happily married. LOL

I look forward to chatting with all of you, perhaps some encouragement can help me get this thing going again.

Ray

Hi Ray,

How long since you visited with your doctor?? He could help decide if you need a fill and could advise how to get you started again on the road to losing that 120 lbs.

You DESERVE the life you desire and the band can help you get there.

How about joining the meeting tomorrow @ New Hope Bariatric @ 10 a.m. for inspiration and support.

There are other men there who would share, as well as ladies.

Well I am glad to see that you plan to come to one more meeting. I have to say that the meeting last month was better than this month so I kind of agree with you about the meeting. I just like being around other people that have already been there that I can learn from. It was nice to meet you and if nothing else we will keep in touch on through here.

Peaches - I meant keep on going until we reach our goal. Not keep on going to the meetings. lolo

Sorry I didn't make that clear.

I agree, the meetings can be negative - however if I pick up one thing that will help me, I benefit.

This is a challenging life-style adjustment and it will require great effort.

I have a question for both of you. Do you miss eating? I mean you are suppose to get full right, so are you satisfied? Or do you miss having a big meal? Or are there certain things that you miss eating? For instance, my family had grilled hamburgers last night for dinner and they looked so yummy. Then it hit me I will never be able to eat a burger with a bun again. Does it bother me? Not really. Not now anyway but it made me wonder if I might miss it further into this journey I get. I can just see us traveling and stopping at a McDonald's and me asking for a chicken sandwich hold the bun. LOL...they will look at me like I am crazy.

To be honest with you as you have seen I have lost almost 100 lbs and if I want it I eat it. Now I may not eat as much of it or I get a kids meal, and not every day. As far as burgers the meat has to be really thin for me(like a shooter from steak and shake, I even ate some of the bottom bun cause it was toasted). Everyone is different cause some people can eat bread and rice. I choose not to. As you get restriction you will know what works best for you.

Kendra, I'm still on mushies, so beginning of 4th week post op. That means 6 weeks (including the pre-op) that I have been limited in my choices.

I've lost 18 lbs and am thrilled. When I do eat, I'm full on about 1/3rd of former portions, or less.

I'm still in the learning phase, so Peaches response has more information for both of us.

I had my pre-op blood work done this afternoon and those poor nurses stuck me 4 time and could not get a drop of blood from me. They were so nice and felt so bad for having to stick me so much. They ended up sending me to a lad Quest to have my labs drawn.

Someone on here said she gets a burger or chicken sandwich with the bun and uses the bun just for handles, tearing off strips of it and throwing it away and eating just the meat. I thought it was a great idea!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
