Looking for May Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi all, It's been a while since I posted on here but I think or hope we've got this figured out. I was originally scheduled to have surgery April 22, 2010 but, I got a really bad head cold and had to reschedule for May 6th but then I went to my primary on April 28th and they put me on antibiotics for an ear infection. I rescheduled again for May 13th and so far it's looking good. I am super excited but so nervous. I was so ready to do this my first surgery date. Now, I am getting scared. I will let you know how it all goes. Congrats to everyone for making the choice to change your lives and good luck on your new journeys.

Pre-Op Diet Day 9: First off, hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there - this hasn't been super easy for me, though I'm hanging tight. I think the fear of surgery is a pretty good motivator to stay on the pre-op diet!

I'm traveling this week for work, which in any other time would mean room service, nice restaurants, and at least a pound or two gained. So it's a bit extra hard. I brought my Protein Bars with me, and am picking up pre-made shakes today as soon as I can find a pharmacy or GNC.

Anyway, just checking in and keeping the thread going. Hope everyone has a great day - I'm sending out positive energy to all the May bandsters. We CAN DO THIS!

Hey everyone, I had my surgery on the 4th and have lost 10 lbs since. I had to go back to the hosp. yesterday for a unfill. I was having a really bad time getting Water or any Fluid down. It is usually difficult in the morning, but I was having a hard time all day. I was very dehydrated ad feeling pretty bad, but am a lot better now.

I'm glad everyone is getting the pre-op diets and all of the other fun stuff out of the way so you can get to the weight loss. You will all be having the surgery soon and then the fun begins. The numbers start going down!!!!! :scared2::thumbup::cheers2:

To the ones who have had surgery done already, it was all worth it, wasn't it?

What kind of shakes and Protein bars are you all using?

I'm using "Pure Protein" brand High Protein Bar - it's got 32g of Protein, only 4g sugar as its made with sucralose I think. It's a pretty big bar, definitely a Meal Replacement. I try to drink 2 shakes, have One Bar, and then a Lean Cuisine with a small salad (FF dressing) for my dinner. Then at night if I'm starving I suck on some sugar free popsicles. I get 1200 calories a day on this pre-op diet, which isn't a lot for a 350lb man....

For shakes I like anything chocolate over vanilla - vanilla seems not strong enough to mask the flavor. I use "Pure Protein" brand chocolate shakes too, but my new thing is "Synthrax Nectars" Chocolate Truffle flavor. The Nectars brand seems to get pretty high marks here, and it dissolves nicely.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

i was banded may 7. it was a tedious process, but not too long considering everything that needed to be done. i didn't have a primary physician prior, so i had my first visit w/ one in aug. he put me on a low carb diet and i visited for 6 months in a row for documentation. in the mean time, i did the required orientations, meetings, psych eval, nutrionist, xrays, and other clearances. the insurance approval i believe took less than 5 days. most of the waiting was for my surgery date. it was originally supposed to be april 30, but got cancelled then reset for may 7. my pre-op/class appt was april 22. i did a no carb diet for 3 weeks and then the liquid diet for 2 weeks before my surgery. may 7 came and went and now im just recovering and waiting while still on a liquid diet. i know the liquid diet is for my health and it will only benefit me, but come may 21, i will so be looking forward to the pureed food and chicken salad. it's been a month since i have chewed anything!

I'm scheduled to be banded May 14th, two days from now. My approval came through on the 30th and they wanted to do my surgery the 7th, but I didn't have enough time to get all of the pre-testing done. had my blood work, EDG and last appointment all in the same day, on the 6th. Started my pre-op diet on the 7th.

I'm nervous but excited! I can't wait til I feel comfortable again.

Good luck! To quote a cliche, "Today is the first day of the rest of your life!" In this case though, it really applies, doesn't it? Congratulations on taking this step, and please let us all know how goes - we look forward to your reports from the other side!

Ok... Day 1 almost done! Yahoo!!! I had my surgery this morning and I am feeling really good. For all of the bandsters out there that are afraid (I was one of you.) I can tell you in compete honesty that there is nothing to fear. This surgery was a whole lot easier then I expected and went really well. I am a little sore and extreemly tierd (from all of the meds) but I am already up and moving around. If I can do this then I know in my heart that you all can to. I am welcomming myself to my new life and can't wait to welcome all of you. Horray for us!!!

Ahahahahahah!!! I am going crazy! I was banded 5/10 only 5 days ago. I am doing ok but it is driving me crazy that I can't talk to anyone about what I am going through. None of my friends or family know I had the procedure. I was low bmi 30 and didn't feel like explaining my self to them.

Now I feel so alone. My husband goes to work (he knows) and I am by myself with a one year old (2 kids at school) We are also moving in the next 2 weeks and I have packed nothing.....

I feel like I need to heal faster. Where am I going to find the energy? I can't ask for help......

By the way my surgery was in Mexico with Ortiz and the experience was great, considering I was having surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
