I am curious as to the percentage of men that are participating on this site.

It seems to me that you will find out what you have already figured out. There are very few men here, but I hope you stick around. I hope you can put up with how women are and look at it in a positive way.

I know that most of you are women. I am just curious as of the ratio and how many many are going to have to put up with me. :blushing:

Thanks for responding

I just wanted to say thank you for providing an "other" category for individuals who identify with a gender other than male or female. I hope people take it seriously because it is respectful to recognize that not everyone is either a man or a woman.

High-five for you lol.

Male or female. Penis or vagina. What else is there unless you think you are an animal? Even transgendered will identify as one or the other. So yeah, I don't get it. Please do educate me.

Male or female. Penis or vagina. What else is there unless you think you are an animal? Even transgendered will identify as one or the other. So yeah, I don't get it. Please do educate me.

First let's start with some basics.

*Sex - biological characteristics (XX=female, XY=male)

*Gender - socially constructed ideals about males and females

*Transgender - an individual who feels that they are neither male or female OR a male who subscribes to stereotypical female gendered scripts OR a female who identifies with male gender roles

*Transexual - an individual who has reconstructive surgery to alter their reproductive organs to identify with a male or female

*Intersexual - an individual who has intermingled male/female sex characteristics (previously "hermaphroditism")

- This occurs in 1.7% of live human births (Almost 2 out of every 100 babies born)

-How? Typically when a baby is born the genitalia clearly identify the baby as either a male or female, but there are measurements that a doctor can do to check as well. Believe it or not, the clitoris is the equvalent of the penis (external genitalia) (I can explain this too if you'd like).

.5-1cm external genitalia is considered a clitoris (female)

2.5-4.5cm external genitalia is considered a penis (male)

So what about the gap in between?? = INTERSEXUALITY

Many things can cause this to happen:

Turner Syndrome (XO chromosomes) =1 in 2,500 female births (the uterus and ovaries are missing)

Klinefelter Syndrome (XXY chromosomes) 1 in 600 births (small penis/testes, feminized hips, small breasts)

XYY Syndrome = 1 in 1,000 births (males are taller than average)

Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) = adrenal glands produce abnormally high amounts of androgens (male hormones) (the individual has a uterus and either a large clitoris or small penis)

Androgen-Insensitivity Syndrome (AIS) = genetic males cannot utilize androgen (they don't have internal reproductive organs, but they do have a small penis)

5 Alpha-Reductase Deficiency = prevents prenatal differentiation of the external genetalia tissue into a penis (there is no penis but the individual has facial hair, deep voice, broad shoulders)

Many times when there is any speculation as to a baby's sex, the doctors perform a surgery that shapes the genitalia into a clitoris, whether or not that baby had ovaries or not....leaving many males with clitorises.

So as you can see, it IS possible for an individual to be neither a male or a female. And who's to say they have to choose? Please be respectful of these individuals because 1-2 out of every 100 people that you know could be intersexed!

*This information was typed by myself from a feminist course taught at Kansas State University in 2009. I am a Psychology major and a Women's Studies minor, as well as a minor in Nonviolent Studies. If you have any more questions or would like to know more about anything that I discussed, I will answer them with the training that I have recieved.

It's where they don't punch somebody in the crotch to see if they have testicles. :smile2:

Wow, I didn't mean to start this whole conversation with the poll but am amused. Keep it up.

I'd love to know what your intention was to provide an "other" category in the poll. Were you being facetious or genuinely being considerate?

Great job KState Army Wife! I'd love to know what are nonviolent studies?

Nonviolent Studies aims to combat:

Domestic Violence (for ALL PEOPLE)

Stalking

Violence in Schools (school shootings, bullying, etc.)

Discrimination (based on race or ethnicity, gender, sexual preference, etc.)

and Sexual Abuse (for children as well as adults)

And yes, Nonviolent Studies are also feminist because feminists believe that ALL PEOPLE (young, old, men, women, intersexed, gays, lesbians, *I could go on forever) have a basic human right to feel safe and free from harm.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
