I am scheduled to have surgery in 5 days, and wouldn't you know that I have this annoying tickle in my throat and chest that I just can't seem to kick. I am flying to Mexico on Wednesday, and I am starting to get paranoid that they won't want to do it since I am coughing too much. I have no fever, it's seasonal allergies, anybody else have upper respiratory distress when they got banded? I am worried that if I cough too much, it may affect the sutures or just hurt me too much! I just hate to reschedule, I want this so badly, and I'm psyched up for banding NOW. Whatcha think?

Apologies for not posting for so long - as I recall, my last post had me vowing to post more often - so much for that! Just wanted to update anyone who's interested, in my progress... Yesterday was exactly 30 weeks since my surgery, and my loss to date is about 62lbs - mind you, this morning that was more like -59lbs but being an optimist, I always go by the lowest ever I am still really happy with my decision to have the surgery and feel absolutely 500% better, both physically and mentally since. Having said that, I don't think the band is a no-brainer, and will do all the work for you, but it is a brilliant tool, which i almost forget I have most of the time. I h…

I hope any of you who are reading this plan to attend the meeting at the surgeons' offices on Wednesday, May 26. I'm so happy they're serious about following up on these meetings--I received TWO phone calls to remind me about it and I'm so encouraged!! They also have added another day to their fill schedule, folks, so it's TWO days a month rather than one. That's a HUGE step in the right direction, doncha think? I want to support their admirable efforts to reach out to their banded patients so PLEASE, if you know of anyone eligible to attend let them know about it. I look forward to seeing you there!!

Just running with an idea Darcy mentioned in another post: how are you with your kids and their nutrition? I hear so many horror stories from people of when they were kids and what their parents did 'for their own good'. I don't want my kids to be overweight because we all know how cruel kids can be to the fat ones(not to mention their health) but i also don't want them to be denied treats either. Something i found myself doing and trying to correct is, if and when the kids get none nutritious foods i tend to give less to my daughter.(I have tears as i am writting this) Ok... full crying and back from the washroom. Anyways... My son is 5 and extremely skinny and my d…

Hi Everyone, On May 13th I had my first fill. Here's what has happened since: May 13: I could drink liquids just as before the fill. May 14: Drinking caused some discomfort. I slowed my drinking down to small sips of warm liquids and was ok. May 15 and 16: I tried some soft foods but it caused pain so I went back to liquids. May 17,18 : I could eat mushies in the evening, but could only drink warm liquids very slowly in the am. May 19th: In the evening, I tried a cracker. I chewed the heck out of it. It got stuck for 20 minutes. I slimed...but I never pb'd. Then, the pain went away and the cracker went down. May 20th and 21: All of a sudden, …

A lot of things have been getting stuck lately and I've had some heartburn - which until now the band had cured. So I called my doctor and they said I probably have a dilated pouch. They took all my fill out and now I am supposed to wait two weeks, get an esophagram, and then if that is OK, get refilled. If I DO have a dilated pouch, I know it's because I have little by little gotten away from healthy eating habits (especially not drinking after eating). If all is well after two weeks and I can get my fill back, I vow (bargaining phase) never to take my band for granted again and to stick with the behaviors that have gotten me this far. Wish me luck. This one is my favorite, but doesn't seem to have a lot of members, hence I can be away for a week or two, come back and find only about 5 new threads. I also go to Spotlight which has a lot of users, but also has a particular person on it who drives me crazy with her know-it-all, finger-pointing, black-and-white blame games. She ruins that board for me. Any comments? Any ideas? Nancy

It's driving me nuts. Nothing stops the leaking. I've tried everything. I tried liquid-bandages last night but it seeps through. I tried laying in the sun to bake it and even tried blow-drying it for 1/2 hour. I've tried letting it run itself dry. But now I'm at work so I've got it covered with bandages, but it seeps out of the bandages. I can't focus on work because I'm constantly changing my dressings and dabbing up liquid. The worst part is that it's such a tiny little leak,…

Dr. Spivak has not done my fills under flouroscopy and it has worked out fine. Sometimes Dr. Hewitt has done the fills and that's been fine, too. Both are very nice. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks post op. In addition to my leaking incision, I don't think I'm doing very well. Yesterday I ran to my local doctor because my constant diareah and belly gurgling were really making me ill. My lap-band doc (Lopez) said this isn't related to the band, so my local doc is running a bunch of lab tests to rule out bacterial infections. Now I'm running a low fever. My incision isn't infected, and I don't feel horribly sick. Could this fever be my body fighting to recover? Was anyone else really slow going after surgery? How was everyone feeling at this stage? It was a difficult fill, and I felt no difference in restriction. I had my second fill in late March and at that time the dr. said he thought my first fill had leaked out through the puncture site when he injected it. So I got another cc. My nutrional guidlines provided by my doctor don't mention carbonation. It says to avoid alcohol and beer for caloric reasons, but nothing about carbonation. However, other people say you can never have carbonation again. Please 'splain.

When I got back, went to see my doctor immediatly since i wanted a fill to try and continue with the losing trend. Wow! he only put .5 ml in and a sip of Water would take minutes to go down. Nothing other than water would go down. Day or night. So he removed the .5 mil, which leaves me with room for a lot of food in the evening. I am a bit puzzled by this. Seriously, it's a big and roundy kind of oval with two pointy pig ears. Then that little white right-arrow on the bottom is one of its piggy toes. Did someone really mean do it on purpose? The second woman had about 35 to lose before her high school reunion, and decided to do it by running a marathon. Yeah, right. The third woman is MO, but only gained weight during her pregnancy and first few years as a mother of quintuplets. Before that she'd been slim all her life, even competing in a 1990 beauty pageant at age 21. She's 5'6", weighs 258, and had bypass surgery a few months ago.
