Ok I am 4 days from surgery and I have not quit yet. I know that I need to quit but it is kinda like weight loss for me. Hard, very hard. Anyone out there that smokes? Before surgery? After surgery?

Pre surgery nerves even making it harder. Any advise or suggestions from smokers or previous smokers?

I did not quit befor surgery.

Believe it or not when I went for pre op my nutritionalist told me not to try and quit right now. After surgery is a different story though. I had no urge or desire to smoke with the bloatedness and gas pains and not being on nothing but liquids a cigarette was the last thing I wanted. You may feel the exact same way. Some will tell you quitting smoking before surgery helps you to heal better but I healed very quickly and just fine. the added stress on trying to quit before surgery was something I did not want to experience so I did not quit. ...

As much as my doctor wants me to stop smoking He admited it was a good excuse to go for a walk after surgery.

He aslo said that quiting after i was healed was the best time but not to try while i was recovering. The body needs its streangth and energy to try to heal itself. when you try to quit you just add stress to the situation.

He did say i should try to cut down during the recovery and to quit ASAP!

I had heard from some people that I should quit before surgery and I haven't so I have been really stressed over it. It just makes me feel better to know that I am not the only one.

4 days to go!!!!

I had my surgery two weeks ago and am also a smoker. I was told by a nurse not to try to quit right now too. I would like to quit soon though and was wondering what worked for other people? Teresa
