I am brace yourself...terrified to actually eat...strange! I hope I am not doing anything wrong. I have started taking my prolosec(sp) again...thinking the heartburn is starting up again...its hard to drink all my water and protein shakes....i have lost my appetite for them...does anyone have a brand they can suggest thats good? I am hoping to get back to a normal routine...i am feeling a little depressed...sorry for venting:001_unsure:

Attention Stomach Sleepers!!

I was surprised that I was able to sleep on my stomach a week and a half after my surgery. I am 3 weeks post op now. Its still a little sore at first getting into position but once I get adjusted, I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. I would never have thought I would be sleeping on my stomach so soon.

New Photo

I cannot believe how quickly time is flying by. Next weekend I will be posting my new Sept. 2010 photos in my good old green shirt. Be on the look-out for that.   This month is full of doctor's appointments for me. I am again cancelling the appointment for my first fill this Thurs. Still don't think I need it.   I have an appointment for a colonoskopy consultation:eek:. Yes, I have put it off as long as I can, now my doctor's are yelling that it has to be done. So, in order to schedule the test for the week of October 11th I have to go meet the doctors and give them my medical history. How fun is that?   Then I have to get my mammogram and ultrasound:mad:. It will take have the time it usually does since I had a mastectomy on January 5th of this year...I know, sick humor. I am a little nervous about it, but I will keep good thoughts.   Then I get to see my oncologist. I love this woman more than I can say:tt1:. She is absolutely the best. I hope she tells me the mammogram and ultrasound tests went well and all is good for another year. Once you have been told you have breast cancer, every mammogram is a scary proposition.   OK, so I have been doing really well with the lap-band so far. I am down to 223.4 and feeling really well, except I have some kind of lump on the bottom of my left foot and 2 corns on my right foot, so when I'm on the treadmill, my feet start to bother me. My sneakers are New Balance shoes and I have been wearing them for a couple of months, so I know they fit well. I guess I now have to make an appointmtnet with a podiatrist:cursing:.   When it rains it pours, but I am losing weight, not hungry between meals so I am still a happy puppy. :tt2:

Post-Op Appt.. Again

Last week, my sister's car died on us just as she was about to take me to the clinic for my follow up. I ended up having to reschedule for tomorrow, Sept.1 @ 10am. I've opted on taking public trransportation over there because I don't want to ask my sister for another ride even though I'm almost sure she'd have no problem. But still, I've resolved to doing most things by myself simply because I want to get better. But, of course, there's this persistent stomach problem I have with my stitches; and instead of focusing on it, I'm going to work around it. I do plan on asking the doctors if anything can be done about it. A question I most likely know the answer to anyway. I've noticed for the past few days that my abdomen has become hard. It doesn't really sink in when I poke it or anything but I feel it pulling on my stitches even when I'm laying down. I guess I have to drink more water or something, but I am going to point it out to the doctors. It could also mean that I'm just bloated due to my "Aunt" coming for a visit. But I'm prertty sure it's nothing big. I weighed myself today and was pretty surprised that with swollen tummy and all, how much weight I've lost. Well, it's not like I've been eating alot. I usually do a protein shake in the morning and drink liquids in the afternoon and then nothing in the evening. Not healthy, I know, but I've lost my appetite lately. I feel at times like I'm full just from the liquids alone. Anyhow, I'm not going to post my weight until I weigh myself at the clinic. I don't trust my scale at all. It gives me so many different numbers that I'm reluctant to believe anything I see. But I will post my weight tomorrow. I'm just hoping that it's closer to what my scale's been showing. On a good note, I've started working on my arms with a heavy resistance band I had bought prior to the operation. They're pretty toned but one wouldn't be able to notice because my arms are still fat. And those morning protein shakes are doing wonders, too. My legs are not as big as before. They're not as fatty as they use to be. They're actually a lil bit thinner and look better than they have in years. The results are beginning to show. So, while I wait for my abdomen to heal, I'll continue working with the band until I'm able to ride my bike again. Adios til tomorrow!:huh0:

It's time for the butcher (a.k.a plastic surgeon)

Down 151 pounds since last year and I am making arrangements for my pannulectomy.   I called around last week and prices were ranging from $9,000 to $16,000 for a tummy tuck. I was asking about tummy tucks because I didn't want to try and pronounce pannulectomy.   I had a consultation with a plastic surgeon yesterday and was quoted $4,870. He comes highly recommended. The price is a lot less than I thought because he said I can get 40% covered by insurance if I have my umbilical hernia fixed simultaneously.   I have another consultation next week with another highly recommended plastic surgeon next week. I am probably not going to try any more unless the diagnoses and quotes are very far apart.   I am really fearing the pain but am looking past it to the final outcome. I'll be losing 10 to 20 pounds of ugly fat and skin.   Then I won't have to tuck my dulap into my swim suit and the next picture may be me in a speedo.

@ yrs later

It's been two years August 5th and I am 1 pound past my goal weight 86 lbs...wow I can not believe it has been 2 yrs and I have lost this weight and I feel awesome and I am loving it. The only thing I wish I would have done was drink more water use allot more lotion then I did to help my skin. It's not so bad but bad enough for me. I wish ins would cover after two years and you reached your goal. It's not right or fare. Oh well what can you do but keep going to back to the doctors and complaining. Ugh My stomach is nasty and I would love for that to be fixed. I can go on. The bottom line is the weight is off and I am happy and feel great.

It's Okay to Acknowledge change

This weight lost journey is very new to me. I have failed miserably for years trying to lose weight. Therefore, it's not easy for me to accept the positive comments people are saying to me about the weight I have lost. I still look into the mirror, and I see a little difference. I still think to myself "it's not all that much of a difference"! The scale is really not moving fast, but I think it's mostly inches that are coming off. I do admit my clothes are very loose and a couple of things I can't even wear any more. I do know that is a good thing, but it is still very hard to see that thinner me. I look into the mirror and I still see all those fat rolls, humps, and fat in areas I don't want it to be in. I don't want to get the "big head” as some people often say to me, but I am proud of the changes I have made. At times I want his weight to come off over night, but I know that isn't going to happen and it would be healthy if it did. When a person has spent so much of their life being over weight, you just want to experience a different side of life. This whole process is more mental than I ever anticipated it to be. I realize that food has different meaning to me for different reasons. It is a comforter, it gives me pleasure, it occupy me when I am bored, and most of all it can't tell me no. For all those reasons food has to be redefined with a different purpose and need in my life. I am a work in progress! This site is so wonderful to have in my life. Thanks to all those wonderful and inspiring people that let me know I can do this.

First Fill

Yesterday I had my post op appointment and first fill. I have to say that for someone who has a very high tolerance for pain, it hurt a little! Or I guess I should say, it stung. Even after she was done, I could feel it stinging. She said I already had 3 ccs in the band so she put another .5 ccs in. I'm back on liquids for 2 days, but I'm okay with it, it's Africa hot outside, so fluids are good!   I'm still down 20 lbs overall, but I can tell that my clothes are fitting me better, so maybe the scale isn't moving, but my body is changing. Today I put on my size 16 shorts and they fit! Unfortunately, they are white, so I only have a few more days until Labor Day...heck...I'm no fashionista...I just may wear them into October! LOL!

Tired and Uncomfortable

Okay-- last night was so uncomfortable but I made it through the night with maybe an hour sleep. Everytime I moved I could feel like as if something was in my rip cage. Reminded me of when I pregos with my children. I am not a back sleeper so that makes it worst. I always sleep on my tummy or side---even the recliner didn't work last night.... lol oh well as the saying goes no pain no gain... so no complaining--- suck it up and move on as it will past. lol:thumbup: Hope you all have a wonderful day and journey. I am still learning and adjusting to mine. I think I'm going to attempt to walk a little more today.

Tomorrow is the big Day.

Well I am almost there. I am on clear liquids today and this evening I will do my "clean out". My husband who had a colonoscopy said to get my Ipod and the baby wipes and prepare to camp out in the bathroom. I admit every now and then the thought flashes through my head " What? Are you crazy? Why are you doing this to yourself?" Then I get on here and read everyone's stories and I calm back down. I know this right for me. I was originally thinking of lapband, but my doctor suggested the sleeve might be a better option. After reading the revision stories here, I'm sure I've made the right choice. So wish me luck everyone and scooch over on the loser's bench. I'll be there with you soon.

Joined bandit team

Got home, got my doona and tv set up, and just lounged around, every hour trying to squeeze in a walk to keep the circulation going. Boy it was a struggle to get up off that couch, you dont really realise how much you actually use your stomach muscles. Day 1 i was abit sad, the night to go to sleep was difficult your not on strong pain killers as you are in hospital, you find it harder to go to sleep, but you copy the fowler position in hospital to get to sleep. I was Sip, Sip Sipping away, although to be honest i couldnt be bothered... its so hard just to sip sip sip when your use to drinking in large quantaties but i guess u manage. As each day goes it gets better though the pain and general mobility although the sleeps can get annoying and COUGHING ouch, thats a killer each time i cough i think one of my stomach stiches will come undone or my band will slip but i generally think that all the time, abit of paranoia i have, with the constant cramps and discomfort. But i guess the only time you should be concerned is if you have a high temperature over38 degreees. Other then that Dah.. you had surgery!! I am today on my 5th day since surgery!! yesterday was i killer i wanted to EAT!!! everyone says they are fine and you are bloated etc.. but i wasnt so today although i still wanted to kill my family for eating dinner and me staring at my water and sipping it at the time, i was better i bought more liquids to have. I supplied myself with Up&Go and finding its giving me my energy back and less moodiness, yday i was balling my eyes out of hunger and discomfort. And i still need to update my lemonade iceblock supply and got some sustagen for more variety. For dinners as i like something warm i have some chicken soup, sieved ofcourse. I cant wait to get to MUSH food!!!!!!!!!!! its depressing!! another thing i found hard, is when your preparing something for someone else its so hard, my head is in a habit of licking my fingers and almost had a piece of carrot and lettuce Aaaaaah ... lucky i spat it out!! :tt2:

1st BLOG!!

I have decided to start a blog, i know so many have gone down this journey.. but looks like it helps so, Why not?? So before i start i am going to be ultimately super honest about this whole process!! lets see what comes of this. Abit of knowledge about me i am 22 years old, young maybe but i had struggled with weight for a while, done every diet under the blue moon and was over it, you loose abit you gain a huge chunk back. My Decision to have gastric banding was easy, i put on a tone of weight recently and said ' I cannot look like this ANYMORE!!!' so went to my doctor, got a referal and called in the Oclinic, saw my doctor and BANG i booked a day to do it!! however before hand i ofcourse did look into medical websites and decided this was the right thing to do. 4950$ with private insurance. So i was booked in on the 25th August 2010. 2 weeks before i had seen the doctor, and i also got to be a 'STAR' patient, meaning i allowed students/doctors to watch the surgery through camera. I was excited and bubbly to start this journey.   Pre- Surgery I went on an Optifast diet, i didnt mind the general food, most people complain about the shakes but their not bad, and i loved the soup!! However its not as easy as it sounds... oooohh do you get hungry... my stomach was growling like hell... my moods all crazy!!! i wanted to kill anyone with a decent meal, my poor family!! I did eat salads and made myself a yummy vege soup so i successfully pulled through!! and this is a great achievement.   The Day of the Surgery Suprisingly i did not loose any sleep over this, i didnt think about it i just do it. Thats how i am, when i have something to do i just do it, dont think do. My day started with uni, yeah you would think i would take the day off, but seeing as my surgery was at 5pm i wasnt going to bore myself. I met up with my dad in North Sydney and caught a bus down to the Mater, when we got there went through admissions then followed to my own PRIVATE room!! yes was superb and it was at the very end so noone would keep walking past my room gauking at me, pure privacy, not to mention own ensuite was really clean and modern. So i would wait there till the nurse would come in, straight away i would kick my dad out of the room everytime shed come in, just in case of some girly business or generally the fact i didnt want him to see my WEIGHT and tummy lol.. She just kept checking up and informing me of whats going on. I put on my lill hospital tunic my embyroic(i think thats it) socks and waited whilst watching deal or no deal. The time had come a nurse came in and said i was going to get wheeled off to surgery, was fun to be honest 5 star treatment, they wheel you all the way to the theatre, i had an awkward grin on my face my dad thought i was insane, but i came there for a reason and i wasnt going to be sad about it. I did start to get shaky when i had to say bye to my dad, abit of nerves, and when im nerves i smile bigger, i think my dad looked alot more upset then me. I said my goodbyes i got wheeled to the room before the theatre room and met one of the surgeons and the anastisiologist, omgosh she was hilarious, she calmed me down so much i didnt feel like i was going into surgery, i was trying to ignore the fact that she was sticking me with needles. After that i got wheeled into the theatre, and as a star patient i saw alot of people from the tv, that will be watching my surgery!! which is no worries. Then you transfer onto the operating table, and then Breath in and out... and Off you go into a deep blank... Wake up... arrrgghh.. i dont feel so good.. others say its all good but i wasnt swell, then the nurse in recovery gave me more anti nausea thingys and pain relief. Then after a while got dragged back to my room where my dad was patiently waiting.... i think he was abit shocked to see his little daughter with an oxygen mask and needles and laying almost unconcious in her bed. but i put on a big smile for him. And continued to ramble on to him like a lunatic, then my Dr. came in and told me what a beautiful healthy liver i have!! woohoo any compliment will do. Then he gave me an iceblock, boy was i happy to have an iceblock, no complaints from the family from piggin out on them lol. Then my dad left and i fell straight away to sleep as you get so groggy. Which is excellent... then woke up again called the nurse to pee!! and then back to sleep i kept getting my pressure, oxygen checked and gotten stabbed in the thigh for pain relief. And i did my mini walks to decrease the chances of blood clotting. One thing ill mention boy its hard to stand up from that bed ur stomach is in pain when you bend or move too much. The best position is the fowler position apparently, cant do any other way anyway. Then in the morning woke up nice and early and awaited my dad's return, they decided to let me out since i was doing so well... and i was excited about that , but boy did i want to stay there later on, due to not getting injected with super nice drugs!! So 10am came, and my partner of 1.5 years and my dad came to get me, the face on my bf saddened me he felt such pitty... but i tried to explain im not that bad, i guess its hard to see anyone you love in hospital yet alone after surgery. He was such a sweetie, he packed my bags and helped me up and walk. Went to pharmacy for dige-sic then off to home i went.

long overdue update (MUCH drama)

shortly after my last blog post, i ended up going in to have some of my fill removed. it helped for a short time. in june when my "girly time" arrived, my band ended up getting so tight that i was forced to go to the ER, was admitted and had my band fully emptied the following morning since i couldnt even swallow water.   my band has been completely empty since then.   i had a small fill yesterday (.6cc) and will be getting very small fills, about once a month, until i am in a good place with my band.   i wish my surgeon listened to me. he really doesnt and it has lead to a lot of frustration and trouble that could otherwise have easily been avoided.   anyway, after a fill, he insists on liquids for a week and then mushies for a week. kind of extreme, in my opinion but im sticking with it.   ive started keeping a food and exercise journal so i can keep track of my calories, eating habits and exercise. so far, so good!:tt2:

Consultation seems so far away...

I called the doctor's office to set up a consultation. I was hoping for day within the week, but unfortunately the latest they had was September 16!!!!! aaaah...haha.   Seems far away but alas the date is set. I also called Aetna and confirmed that they covered the surgery and had them email me the requirements in order for it to be covered.   Still excited! I'm also going to the gym religiously because it allows me to release some energy :tt2:
