Do Good Anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Do good anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost every day, I hear a friend, a college, or a news reporter casting suspicion on the motives of someone who is doing good. They imply that others who seem to be doing good are only pretending to do good when in fact they have their own selfish ulterior motives. We may be accused of being selfish and have motives that are ulterior to ourselves for gratification by others who are not happy that we are doing good. Today I attended a funeral and was met by so many with praise for how I have lost my weight and kept it off. That felt good. But I really wonder where they were when I was heavy and still doing good for others? Oh well it does not matter, for we must do our best to help others and just accept that we can not change some things in life. The one thing we have done is change the way we feel, and look and how we now have more life to give to ourselves and those around us that we love. Oh God, Whom I praise, do not remain silent, for wicked and deceitful men, have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tounges. With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause. In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a woman of prayer. They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship. Psalm 109 Do not let those tear you down for what you have done and accomplished, continue to do good and show them that you were led for this journey. Keep the Faith!

That Dress

I wore my favorite dress last Saturday night. It was a bittersweet. I freakin’ rocked that dress, if I might say so myself. (as much as it could be rocked by someone that weighs 300#) And if ppl’s reaction / responses to me in that dress were any indication – I was a Red Foxx!!   But alas, I realized that it will be the last time I wear that dress (unless I can manage to rock it another time or 2 before 9/21). It still trips me out that quite a few folks – including a few miscellaneous ppl in various store I stopped at – including folks outside my general realm of admirers ( to be PC about it *lol*) were gassing up my head! but maybe...it was just a nice. dress.   Thing is, given my recent over-all disgust over my appearance…I felt…GOOD in that dress. It may have been a fluke – as I know that will be the last time some of those folks will see me this size, but I again made me think about my concerns about me future “post” body. My big & bodacious body so round & full of life…will soon shrink…I’m just wondering if my personality will, too.   See, this is a new place for me. Insecure about this frame I’m in…unable to take a compliment, for the most part. I wonder how that will change in the coming year – if at all.   I have so many funky-fresh outfits & dresses I’ve accumulated over the years, i'm gonna miss how I looked in (some) of it, yanno?   That’s neither here nor there, I guess. I’m just gonna enjoy this last lil bit of summer in my size 22/24/3x big girl clothes.   Change soon come – I bring it!

A total of 24 pounds lost - 8 days post-op

Hello friends! I have missed talking to you all! Well you all know that I put myself on a pre-surgery all liquid diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. Well I am on the third week of solely liquids and I have lost a total of 24lbs! I have lost 8 pounds since surgery 8 days ago. They had to repair a hiatal hernia when they put in the band. I am doing SUPER. I cannot believe that I have already began part of my work out routine (brisk walking and 10 mins on the elliptical (without the use of my arms)). I have a ton of energy, awesome attitude and the gas pains FINALLY subsided by day 5. I do not return to work until September 21. I plan to treat myself to a new hair style, a sexy office outfit and some bad stilletos! Also, I WILL post new full body pics right before I return to work. I plan to be 40 pounds down by then. I should be able to tell a big diff with my clothes. How am I losing the weight so fast? i do this by dedication, being loyal to my diet and PRAYER! I told God the other night, "Because I am obedient to YOU, I expect to be fabulous because I am your creation, made in your image and I don't expect to be anything less!" It's important to remind God of our expectations

Officially Banded!!

I made it through my procedure yesterday and I'm so glad the waiting is over. I'm in the recovery phase and trying to adjust to the band. I don't have much of an appetite and I had to be given an IV last night because I was becoming dehydrated because I had to use the catheter.   Unfortunately, I don't have much of an appetite but I have to force myself the take in the liquids. I'm glad I made this change and I'm officially on the road to a new me.   Thanks again for listening to my rants over the my waiting period.   A little advice. Make sure you get all your medication, liquids and popsicles before your procedure. It helped tremendously to have everything available during this phase even when you have someone at home taking care of you.   Best wishes to everyone.

It's Been Two Weeks Post Surgery

I went through the most horrible experience and to top it off, I haven't lost any weight. In fact, I've gained weight. I hope someone reads this blog and replies to me so I can get some type of support. I know I can do it, but I just need a lot of encouragement at this time.

Newbie

So here I am. My first blog. I have just begun my journey this month! I am very nervous, and excited at the same time. I hope to find some good support here. I am currently scared of losing some things that I am so used to having. Like chocolate and soda!!! I know that sounds horrible that that is what I am most nervous about. I think I will be most scared of the actual surgery later! Right now I have to begin my new diet and start practicing my chewing and eating without liquids. This is going to be such a great challenge! Please give any advice or inspirational messages! Thanks!!

Everything Submitted

My surgeon's office called this evening and informed me that everything was submitted to my insurance company and that it can take up to 20 business days to get a response. I am glad all the paperwork is finally with him. The real waiting begins....NOW!

Somethings never change...

Why is it that when you are feeling good and have a lot of hope that people kick you in the knees?   My surgery was on 7/28 and I have lost 36lbs already! That is great! I ran into an old co-worker/friend today and in our conversation I shared with her that I had LAP-BAND® surgery. She of course immediately told me I should have opted for gastric bypass because the people she knows that have had LAP-BAND® were not successful...   So I walk away from the conversation feeling panicked that I made the wrong choice and that I will not be successful. I can't seem to shake my doubts today...   This blog really sounds pathetic but I needed to vent.

copa, next step

Well, I saw my doctor yesterday, I will have a endoscopy on 9-9, and as soon as my insurance is approved, my surgery should be around the last of September. I am really getting excited. My doctor was so nice, he is a Christian, which is very important to me. He answered all my questions. Love this site. it makes me feel like I have a lot of friends that I can share a common interest with.

9/2/10

I wanted to begin putting my thoughts on e-paper as it helps me process, create and decide on what else but life.   What's been going on with me these days?   Well--life has been busy! To date I have lost a total of 73-ish pounds I think? It feels good, don't get me wrong, but I am really hard on myself. I still see the gut and the big arms. I see the flaws. Friends, co-workers and family have been very praising of my achievements, but for some reason, it's not enough. I'm learning to try to find at least one thing about me that I like when I see myself in the mirror each day. So--I smile. When I smile I see my dimples and it makes me smile more :-)   My workouts have been blah. This time last year I was on point, always at the gym, always putting in 110%. Now with my busy schedule, I simply try to survive. I used to work out 6 days a week. Got my motivation from another lap bander on this site. She lost a ton of weight and maintained it. She was driven. I had to be like that. My decline in motivation occurred when I lost my ipod. I couldn't work out without music, could I? Didn't even bother trying. 6 days went to 4, then 3. I started finding excuses. My body no longer feels strong.   On a good note, I got hired AT MY GYM to be a dance fitness instructor! Yes, ME!! They asked me, which is hilarious. I started in July and it's been great. I teach Bollywood Fitness it definitely covers cardio for the week. I teach one-hour long classes twice a week, then go to Bellydance school once a week. So I guess I shouldn't say that I'm a complete couch potato, but I can do better. I know it.   My eating has been not so great too. I eat what I can, when I can. That is--if it goes down. I think I have about 8.5 cc in a 10 cc band, so I am tight. It is helping me lose weight, and the doc wants to take some out when I'm at goal weight. I need to start cooking at home again and not eating out so much. Other tips I need to re-introduce is food logging, portion control, cutting sugar out and getting sleep. I've got the tools, just need to implement...

its been a while!

I'm down to 205. Life has really got in the way of my weight loss. This summer has been so busy. I cannot wait till things slow down. My husband and i took in a foster child. he is a family members child. So now i have My two boys 4 and 3 and a 15 month old. Needless to say i dont get to the gym nearly as often as i was. I do walk my oldest son to and from school witch gives me a good 20 walk but it does not seem to be enough. I have noticed lately that my band work wonderfully till about 2 then i become a bottomless pit. I can eat sooooo much more after 2pm. i have 7cc in a 10cc band so there is no way i want another fill. Does anyone else have this issue?

Hey guys!!

It's been a while since I've posted anything or even really been on here....life has been busy and so much is going on! I just want to say that I've been reading through everyone's blogs this morning and I'm soooo proud of each and every one of you for all of your hard work and dedication! I am coming up on my 1 year mark on Sept. 18th and it's absolutely blown my mind that it has even been a year now. Life really does fly by! My year of being banded has been a good one....I've lost 50 lbs in that year (and although it's going slow) I'm very proud of that accomplishment. Before surgery the thought of losing 50 lbs was exhausting to think about. I feel sooo much better now, and have so much more confidence. I go back October 4th for an (dare I even say it) UNFIL! I'm actually too tight right now and have been since May. My husband and I are taking a cruise in October and I've decided that I want to "enjoy" my cruise. I am going to still watch what I eat and eat a healthy breakfast and lunch....but if I want dessert at dinner, I'm going to have it. lol I'm trying to get off about 10 more lbs before the cruise. Keep up the great work everyone!!!! :tt2:

Questions to ask your surgeon

Pre Op /The Op If self pay - What does your fee involve? Is there some follow up care thrown in there, like labs at 3,6,9 and 12 months? Pre op diet what to eat/drink and how long for? Do I get a nutritionist/psychologist? What size bougie is used? (This is the medical instrument which determines the size of your remaining stomach) Do you oversew the staple line? How many incisions do you make? Do you go in thru previous scars? How many nights in the hospital is there facility for someone else to stay in my room as well? Do they need to be with me 24/ during my hospital stay? How many leak tests do you do? How many sleeves have you performed? Complication/leak stats? How many if any deaths? Who do I contact if I think I have a problem (most places give out an emergency number)? Is the hospital equipped an ICU and blood bank in case of complications? If complications do happen to occur, are these complications/additional surgery/days in hospital covered by the original quoted price of the surgery? Would you remove my gall bladder at the same time if needed? Can you give me some patient testimonials or do you have any before/after pictures of your patients that I could read/look at? Is it standard operation procedure, ie: no nail polish, no body jewellery? Do I need to stop taking any particular medication pre op? (Take a list of what you take and dosage)   Post Op How often are the post op check ups? Where are they? is price included? What supplements/anti acid drug would I need to take and for how long? Do I need labs done post op? Are these checked with you or my local doctor? DO I get a dvd of the operation? Post op diet? How much weight would I be expected loose? What if I loose too much, how to maintain? Do you use heparin? Will I have to inject it myself? How soon after the op can Idrive, swim, work out, lift weights, lift my kids?
