NEW (: GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY DONE 10.28.14

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I had my surgery one day before, I am 29 and I weigh 330 so I think we

have a similar journey ahead. Maybe we can be bypass bodies or sg... I am sorry I am not very

used to this support group thing. I am a total newbie. What do you think?

I think you both are in for an amazing journey. The next year will be one of the most rewarding and life changing experiences of your lives. You will be rediscovering your bodies and all of the truly amazing things they are capable of. This forum will be an amazing place for you to seek help and advice from others who have done the exact same thing as you. It will be one of your biggest resources.

One thing I want to encourage both of you to do in the next year is to set goals; from the mundane to the insane. Think of all the things you have wanted to do, but couldn't because of your weight and make a plan to begin pursuing them. I am so excited for what the next year holds for you both.

If you have any questions or I can help in any way, feel free to contact me at the links below.

Way to go ladies! I believe this will be a really awesome experience for you! I only wish I had done this when I was younger. I had surgery on June 30, 2014 and have had no complications. Followed Dr. order's and all is well. I have lost

85 lbs in the last 4 months and life is good. I don't hurt anymore and can physically be more active.

This is a great support network and filled with good answers to questions. Just know that not all Dr.'s follow the same procedures so be sure to double check everything with your Dr. or nutritionist.

Looking forward to supporting you in your journey!

Clarissa

Thanks for all the support :) I am feeling really excited myself

I can see thought that the diet is not the same for everyone for example

my doctor told me to start eating after 3 days so I have already had some yogurt and baby food.

Also, Protein shakes are not really part of the diet here. In Europe there are not many products

for Protein powder... but still it would be easier to take in the minimum amount of Protein.

Are there any other Europeans who can help with this?

My postop pains are almost totally gone, the only thing is that I feel like air stuck between my ribs, but it could be worse...

Yesterday I walked for two and a half hour... :D

I also had my surgery on Tuesday the 28th of October! 28 yrs old 283 pounds pre surg.

I'm finding that Im having more pain at home then I was in the hospital and I even stayed an extra night due to a severe allergic reaction to a pain med! I find that even consuming Water hurts my stomach but yet I can cough and move without any pain.. Anyone else similar ?

Cough hurts me a little bit... moving not a problem for me either. It hurts to drink Water when I drink too fast.

I am very sensitive to smells, I can't stand the smell of garlic and fried stuff, its like I am pregnant... but I am not so

its probably more psychological than physical. I had the surgery abroad I have just arrived home, 2 hours flight but everything went well, not so exhausted as I expected. :)

I had my gastric bypass on the 29th. I was 368.5 prior to surgery. I'm just now starting to eat some applesauce. Tomorrow, I am going to try yogurt and a Protein shake throughout the day. I'm hoping before long to be able to stop the pain meds. I need them the most right after I wake up and start moving and after I've been moving quite a bit during the day. But I was taking them every 4 hours to stay ahead of the pain and now, I'm going to try not to take any tonight at all once I go to bed. I do have a high pain tolerance so that may help. I'm fortunate in that my Mom is helping me keep track of everything so I don't have to do it all on my own right now.

Hopefully, we can support each other throughout this journey.

Elizabeth

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
