okay, so i'm on day two of my Optifast. 14 more to go. i can honestly say, the chocolate shakes are waaaaaayyy better than i was anticipating. the chocolate meal bars? not so much. those are going to take some getting used to. haven't tried the vanilla shakes or Peanut Butter snack bars yet, but at least i know i can get through this. but i have to go grocery shopping today-so not looking forward to it. all this food and i can't have any of it??? ack. plus i have to cook for my hubby and daughter, but i'm just making them stuff i'm not too crazy for. and i'm actually not as starving as i was expecting. so hopefully i can get through it without cheating!

Hi Roro,

I feel pressure and tightness when I sit and lay as well. Keeping my torso stretched is the most comfortable. Standing and walking are good, if only I wasn't so pooped! I had a tiny bit of brothy Soup last night, but other than that and a little lite apple juice and Isopure yesterday, I haven't eaten food since Wednesday. I don't have a whole lot of energy. And I'm not hungry either (still swollen, I guess). I just can't wait to be healed. The surgery itself was no big deal - it's the recovery that's hard. If you're uncomfortbale to the point that you can't bear it, you should call your doctor.

All my best to you... K

I know how u feel. But at least u have a surgery date. I dont have a pre-op appt or a surgery date and I was approved a month ago. I was told that they cannot give me a pre op date until they know my surgery date. Supposedly my doctor is having a hard time getting surgery time at the hospital.

I say keep bothering them. I've always been quiet and have noticed that the "loud" people in life are the ones that get what they want.

Im calling my dr again tomorrow!

I was banded on the first and today showered, dressed and went Christmas shopping with dh. My stomach is making great rumbling sounds but way to much pressure to drink much of anything. I have also found that I can tolerate warm beverages much better then cold. Also gave in and took something for the horrible acid reflux pains and feel so much better. It's been 7 days of Clear Liquids now so not a lot of energy. Can't wait for Tuesday when I see the doc and hopefully get the ok for Tomato Soup and cream of wheat Cereal. We are strong we can do this.

Terri

Hi, I introduced myself to the group thinking I was going to be a December bandster. So sad for me, all the reports did not come through in time. I did all the work but all the reports did not get to the surgeon. I was really pushing it trying to get the surgery in December. But it's not to be.

Looks like I will be January or February instead.

Good luck all you December bandsters!!!

I'M UP TO BAT TOMORROW MORNING.... I'm nervous but amazingly the only thing I am really fearing is getting the IV needle (:woot:). I'm on all clear liquids today, I'm hungry but trying to stay busy. I will be up at 5am, leaving home by 6am, at the hosptial by 730am and surgery at 9am. I will stay overnight at the hospital and be home Tuesday afternoon/evening. I will let you all know how it went as soon as I am feeling up to it. Please say a prayer for me that everything goes smoothly.

Thanks for all the support!

My surgery date has changed, as has my surgeon. There was some mix-up - my doctor here in CT left his practice and I was told DURING my pre-op appointment. A bit disappointing, but in the end he recommended someone else whom I met the next day. The new guy, Dr. Tishler, is going to perform my lap-band two days earlier, so my date is now December 16! I am thrilled. I have started my pre-op diet and am starving. That's my own fault, I had been eating very recklessly in anticipation of giving up the binge (how nuts is that!?) ... so I'm sure I'm extra hungry because I had been extra full of late! I feel like I'm about to chew my insides out, that's how hungry I am feeling, and I haven't been able to sleep well at night because of it. This was day three, though, and I expect as with any other diet that I will adjust and feel more full as the week goes on. Congratulations to those who have had their surgery already! I can't wait until it's my turn!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
