Hello, I am hoping to be banded in Jan also....I have been trying to get the lapband since 2006. I started with Humana then after stringent testing and lots of out of pocket expenses that I just paid off in 2008 I backed out because there was more testing that the cardiologist wanted me to do that was going to cost over 2K out of pocket...so after 2 years and I weigh almost the exact same thing I did then and taking phentermine still with no noticeable weightloss I am back on the lapband wagon. I really really want to have it done in Jan but my pre auth is all on hold with the surgeon's office because I have new insurance effective 1/1/2010 so we are waiting until that goes into effect. It is with Anthem BC/BS so I'm hoping the criteria will be a lot easier to get through compared to Humana's in 2006. I filled out the registration paperwork at Dr.Charles Morton's office Dec 16th, but the nurse could not schedule me for anything else until the new insurance goes into effect. I desperately want it done in Jan so I can be in class the first week of Feb...but if not I will just miss class for the surgery...I desperately want it!

Does anyone know of anything I can do to fast track the process....should I make an appointment with a psych for the psych eval and the nutritionist now so that is out of the way? I have a 6month physician monitored diet history but I have never met the dr that is over the program. I just go in and get weighed and they give me my phentermine and every month I return...with a total weightloss of 12lbs in 8months! and I do the elliptical 2x a week for 45minutes but no weightloss! My question is do you think the dr ( who is a pcp in the area in a different office) will write a referral if I've been coming to his clinic for more than 6months with a minimal weightloss? Shouldn't he have too? I have seen his NP every month and I do the diet that comes with the pills but no weightloss. I have lost inches but not enought to tell a difference in my clothes.....I hope the records of me going to the dr diet program is enough and I don't have to ask him to give me a referral???

JustIce. what is a Body Bugg?? Never heard of it.

Marge

It's this awesome little machine that sits on the back of your arm (strapped on of course) that monitors your exercise, sleep, and with the help of the online program, how much you eat, etc. It helps you to know if you have 200 steps left to goal or just where you are with your burning calories. Check it out online, they are SOOOO cool!

I am new to this and I have been approved and surgery set for january 14th.....a little scared and praying to god all works out well with me during and after the procedure.

Welcome--we have the same surgery date and the same nervousness. Reading this site has helped me not be so nervous. My pre-op appointment is tomorrow where I get my pre-op diet instructions--they already told me it is a liquid diet with one low fat/high protein/low carb meal. Be Blessed--and we can do it! :)

My date is January 20th if all goes well with the "medi hell" diet. I have to lose atleast 12 more pounds in the next 3 weeks. On the medifast for 1 week now and doing well. Still cooking full meals for the family and enjoying my low sodium broth while they eat.

The 14 is my day as well. I recieved my preop diet on the 21 which made me a little more nervous than i was to begin wtih. I am more afraid of that than the procedure itself. I just know how i feel when i get really really hungry. that weak, puny jittery feeling. I hoping I will not have that for 10 days straight all the while going to work and functioning. uuugh. But you are right...we CAN do this!:)

Hopefully with the little small meal that I get, that it will not be so bad for the next 14 days or so--good thing I start a few days before I go back to work, but yeah feeling "yucky" and ill and trying to work has me somewhat nervous--I am an assistant principal--being ill and weak will not be helpful lol:wink2:

Hey there foreme. We are having surgery on the same date. Jan 4 Can't wait. I'm at about 220 wanting to get down to 140. I can't stand the way I look or feel.

I sometimes wonder if its stupid for me to do it at my age. (I'll be 59 in February) but I sure would like to be healthy going to retirement years.

Good luck. Talk to you soon.

Marge.

Marge, I'm close to your age and I've wondered the same thing about having this done at this stage of my life....however, I'm thinking getting banded/losing weight will probably increase the numbe of years I have left.... so, let's look at it this way! Let's keep in touch . . . there's a section based on age, so I'll be checking in at that thread too. Good Luck!!

Just talked with my surgeon's asst. . . I have a JANUARY 12 surgery date at Emory in Atlanta  and I cannot begin to say how excited, nervous, scared, and anxious I am. The doctor requires a 7-day liquid diet (Slimfast), but I'm going to start today to get a jump. My support group is limited, so I'll be relying on this site and all of you a lot. So far, all your postings have informed and comforted me. Thanks!

Hi There - I am scheduled for the LAP-BAND® January 5th - can't wait. It's my second pre-op fast. My original surgery date 12/11 was changed due to my surgereon changing offices and reapplying for insurance. I fasted 8 days - broke fast - and ate a pizza. It was nice to "pig out" through the holidays, but now I am DONE! I am on Optifast and glad to be nearing the solution!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
