August Bandsters Updates....

Recommended Posts

I am doing great. I just had my 3rd fill this past week, I have no idea how much I have in my band at the moment. I am down 60lbs and feeling pretty good. I really needed this last fill for about a month because I was able to eat waaaay tooo much, but I decided to wait until after the holidays to get it so my weight loss really slowed down. My rings are getting way too loose on me, I am going to have to get my wedding set sized and I am down from a tight 24 (2x) to 16/18 (XL). :)

My hubby is getting banded on the 16th!! :) So he can join the fun of bandland soon!

Ive been at a stall myself. Ive lost 33 lbs to date with only 1 fill. I will be getting my 2nd fill tomarrow at 9am Yea!!!! I decided to put it off until the holidays were over. Im finding also that I can eat SOOOOOOOOOOOO much more than before so now is the time. Only hoping that this next fill hits the spot with a faster weight loss.

I too am loving this band! I haven't been losing as of late. Time of the month and what have you but I am working hard at it. The holidays were not so bad for me but I made terrible food choices. LOL Well at least I have a tool to help me when I can't seem to help myself. I am at 40lbs gone and I want to have 50lbs at my 6 month mark. I think I can do it. I am starting an exercise regimen tommorrow. I thought about joining the gym and I never did. I have decided to pull out all of my workout dvds and use them. I have everything, Beach Body workout, The Firm, Kathy Whats her name walking dvds, Denise Austin ab blasters in 10 minutes or something like that, you name it I have it. Well I have enough to keep me fit forever LOL. Well I am beginning to ramble so I better stop now, LOL Best wishes to everyone

I had surgery 8/25/05. I had my first fill on 11/21/05. By end of November I was down 25# and that is where I have stayed. Through December I ate lots of sweets that went down so smoothly. I do feel I am restricted enough right now, but am not losing so I don't know. Before I get another fill I know I have to get rid of the chocolate and get up early for the treadmill every day. I am hoping that will get the pounds moving - if not, then I will get another fill. I just keep reminding myself that it is a tool - not a magic wand. Even though the first 25# felt like magic. Best of luck everyone!

I was also banded on 8/23/05 -- darn it must be the date. I too lost almost all of my weight in the first 3 months and nothing since. I've had two fills the most recent was last Friday, but a total of only 1cc. I feel pretty restricted, only liquid for Breakfast, Soup lunch and small dinner. I'm not exercising and not drinking enough Water, but still with the calorie in take I should be loosing. I went through menopause the last two years and find loosing afterwards has been extremely difficult - any similiar experiences???

I was banded 8/25 and have had 2 fills since. I am down 35 lbs (just gained back a few this week.) Honestly I'm a little disappointed cuz I really have been working hard @ the gym and the weight is really hanging on. I just made another appt for a fill cuz I'm finding that I can eat more again. In the am strictly liquids, but lunchtime and dinner is my pre-band appetite (just can't eat chx or bread unless I chew very well.) Also I'm snack hungry in the afternoon, which I wasn't right after I had my 2nd fill. So I'm thinkin' maybe I'm losing some fat around my tummy and that's causing lack of restriction (I hope!) cuz I am down from a 26 to a 20, so I'm obviously losing "girth"! My goal was to lose 10 lbs a month, so that's why I'm disappointed I haven't done that yet. But we'll see how it goes after the next fill - here's hopin'!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
